Lessons learned from Day 1 's crash course in surviving Bonnaroo , but not so well-rested (it is hard sleeping in a muggy tent in the Tennessee weather), we awoke early to check out the first real day of Bonnaroo. Thursday was like practice Bonnaroo, which turned out to be much needed for Friday's and the rest of the weekend's adventures. One nice thing about the artists at Bonnaroo is that they are very accessible. So instead of running off to see bands perform on stages first thing Friday morning, I took some time to sit [...]
By Chris Duffy It is all I hoped it would be. It is electricity. It is a drug. It is another state. It is funk. it is soul. It is rock. It is classical. It is gospel: the Gospel according to David Byrne . Artist: David Byrne [...]
Our camera took the evening off (as did the rain!) but this brief YouTube clip captures the sentiment of the show beautifully. Official TMS Rating: 9/10. MP3: Talking Heads - Burning Down The House
To say that Brian Eno is a study in contradictions is to state the obvious, and David Sheppard's new biography On Some Faraway Beach: The Life and Times of Brian Eno is anything but obvious. In 434 sprawling, occasionally grandiloquent pages, Sheppard lays bare Eno's contradictions, offering a thorough overview of a man whose work and influence remain inseparable from the fabric of contemporary popular music.

One can debate the influence of Muddy Waters, Chuck Barry, Elvis Presley, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Ian Curits, or perhaps, even David Byrne on a number of bands making the rounds nowadays. It's all subjective I guess, depending on the genre of music, but you can't dispute the legacy THAT IS THE Talking Heads, or the taste making by David Byrne. Fader Issue 61 celebrates David Byrne and you can listen to the Fader Issue 61 Podcast here or perhaps read the issue as a [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive During the day on Friday, June 12, at this year's Bonnaroo , the performance tent usually designated as "That Tent" (as opposed to "This Tent" or "The Other Tent") may as well be renamed "David's House." That's because all five acts that day -- Ani DiFranco , Santigold , the Dirty Projectors , St. Vincent and Katzenjammer -- were hand-picked by David Byrne himself. As the tent's curator for the day, Byrne said the acts he went [...]

Artist: David Byrne Album: Rei Momo (Warner / Luaka Bop) [MP3] David Byrne: "Make Believe Mambo" Not all that much attention is often payed to David Byrne's solo output after he left the Talking Heads. With the notable exception of his 2008 album Everything That Happens Will Happen Today , which featured his reunion with [...]
how do you translate sound to words and how may those words be recoded back in terms of sound? what gets lost in the process? in what way is one's interpretation of music accurately translated into a literal, textual form, and how is that eventually decoded by its reader who then tries to picture (as if it's now a visual thing!) how the music sounds like and whether it's worth checking out? these are questions every music writer faces, as his or her writing stands in gulf between the musician and the audience. it's an intriguing chain of interpretation and [...]
This is one of my favorite songs ever. "This is the Place" performed by David Byrne on Jools Holland in 2004.

Me and Jen went to see David Byrne in Sheffield last week, and it was top class, quite unlike the merely "cute" spectacle the New York Times criticised . Sure, it was slick, but that didn't preclude constant thrills - "Strange Overtones" all smooth and liquid-hipped, "Help Me Somebody" startlingly funky, and classic Talking Heads material rendered with all its Stop Making Sense big band might. It reminded me of Brian Eno's assertion that most successful popular music has an element of call and response in it - the three backing singers provided a stunning counterpoint and conversation with Byrne [...]

Torquil Campbell has a new band. Dead Star Child promises to be a delightful experience. Campbell teams up with Julian Harris Brown and Andrew Whiteman of Apostle of Hustle, Jimmy Shaw of Metric, and production topped off by Minotaur Shock. Mix it all up and you've got a smoothie of a project on a rather hot day. Muse fans rejoice. As they finish up the new album, Muse has announced their tour plans. The tour will extend through Europe and North America. They also mentioned they'll be jamming with U2 starting in [...]

The rumor mills have been spinning with talk of a possible Talking Heads reunion, but it looks like David Byrne has dispelled these hopeful thoughts. Sorry Talking Heads fans, but it looks like you'll be more likely to see Byrne twirling around in a tutu on stage these days, than seeing him team up with his former band anytime soon. In response to an interview with Metro , Byrne said "I'm not keen and it's unlikely to happen. [...]

I’m not keen and it’s unlikely to happen. I don’t need the money badly enough." [...]
Il leader dei Talking Heads è nella lineup del festival di Modena insieme a Ute Lemper, Butch Morris e Raichel ------
If you live in New York City, seeing David Byrne is sort of a common occurrence. The former Talking Heads front man can often be spotted bicycling around town or taking in a show at any number of concert venues throughout the city. Over this past weekend though, Byrne brought his latest world tour to Radio City Music Hall for two sold out shows at the famed art deco venue which was equal parts concert and performance art. The ghostly white-haired and dressed Byrne peppered his two-hour-plus, three encore show [...]
