Anniversary shows are always going to be a little strange. Dedicating a night to one particular album takes a bit of guts or naivety or blind self-confidence to pull off. You need an album that is somewhat forgotten but is fondly remembered, resonating still with those who loved it once. You need songs that haven't dated. You need a band on top form, capable of playing the songs as well as they ever could. You need a venue that seems at once intimate and epic, giving the songs the platform they deserve whilst retaining that important connection between artist and [...]

It's been a few months since I hung some posters on the fourforty4 wall. Frankly the reason for this is that bands don't seem to placing any real effort into creating a visual poster which helps to promote their gigs or tours. Below are four good efforts at a gig poster beginning with Si Schroeder's single launch in The Workman's Club on Friday 22nd July. ------------- Another good poster is this for Ollie Cole's gig in Cork's Crane Lane; [...]

This week on the blog I'm bringing the best posts from my first blog 'Mixtape4Melfi' over to 2uibestow. With the IMRO thing I've decided to delete that first blog altogether from the internet archives! One of the features I had on Mixtape4Melfi was 'Irish Artists on YouTube' ... here's the best of those posts: An Emotional Fish – Time Is On The Wall Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club (formerly known as An Emotional Fish) is an alternative rock band from Dublin, Ireland. An [...]
Setting out to transform an electro-folk album into pure electronica is a brave venture. Particularly when you're setting out to transform a record as well received as this one. It's safe to say that Patrick Kelleher's debut album You Look Cold was enthusiastically praised across the board. His layered approach in combining genres created something quite strange and yet quite beautiful. But less than a year since the original comes the cheekily titled You Look Colder - the remixes. Sequels to greats are often set up to fail but thankfully, You [...]
