The first thing I did when I got home was download the new Dead Heart Bloom album, Strange Waves . The 9 track record takes you on a dreamy guitar driven ambient-folk carpet ride that I never want to end. I could sit and read the lyrics like poetry. Dead Heart Bloom are understated. That's their biggest problem. Their songs, almost all of them, start with a slow quiet roll, burst into chorus, and then roll back. It's the format pioneered by the Pixies, but without the punk energy. Instead, the choruses are poppy, almost sunny. Almost.
