Oh boy. I just wrapped shooting a two-hour interview for a documentary about men and relationships. A friend is working on the project and asked to shoot some friends and I answering the director's questions, which ranged from "Why are men afraid of commitment" to "How would you help a man learn to be more [...]

Dead Meadow's blissful, psychedelic stoner rock was a great way to follow Spindrift. Original drummer Mark Laughlin returned to the band last year and the Dead Meadow is currently working on their next studio disc, which is a follow-up to 2008's Old Growth . The band's set ran about an hour and here is my best guess at a set list: 01 Intro > I Love You Too 02 What Needs Must Be 03 Till Kingdom Come 04 1000 Dreams (??) [...]

Images of Dead Meadow by Tom Gilmore from their recent Middle East Downstairs show... The Black Angels , Dead Meadow , and Spindrift Wednesday, October 26 at Middle East Downstairs Dead Meadow - What Needs Must Be Dead Meadow - I'm Gone Photos by [...]

Halloween night's opener The Blackbells delivered subtle, vocal heavy rock with an early '90s Tom Petty honky-tonk song structure. Despite their genre differing vastly from the headliner Dead Meadow they managed to charm and ready the DC9 audience, who were divided in attire; half wore plaid shirts and beanies, inspecting the stage the instruments, waiting patiently, the other half in costumes, mostly chatting about earlier parties and parties to follow. Dead Meadow plays creative stoner rock. Transitioning from " At Her Open Door" to " What Needs Must Be" may seem a little colorless, [...]

photos by Dana (distortion) Yavin "We got our name from the Velvet Underground song "The Black Angels Death Song." As far as touring with bands with "black" in their names- The Black Keys and Black Rebel Motercycle Club being the two off the top of my head, it was really amazing to be able to tour with those bands. We'd always been big fans of them and when the opportunity presented itself to tour with these bands for the first time, I was like "wow, awesome." [...]

Jesse Dylan I promised you I was done with Iceland updates, and really you don't get more un-Icelandic than Tom Waits . Of course, the only thing Tom Waits is really like is, well, Tom Waits and even then one era of Waits can be wildly different from the next. I say this as someone who's only very recently begun exploring his expansive catalog and still has a long ways to go - but at least now I find his work intriguing rather than off-putting, as I once did. That's progress. I'm [...]
Even though MOKB is based out of Indianapolis, we still got love for our friends and former Statesmen down South. We were just in town last weekend and caught a great show with Ben Sollee and Vandaveer. While there, we got to catch up with our hometown pals over at Production Simple and Headliners . They've offered up two pairs of tickets, for a couple lucky winners, to see The Black Angels with Dead Meadow and Spindriff [...]

...because you're gonna need a pair for a show this brutal. LOL, did you guys see what I just did there?! It's called a double entendre. Dude, that was so good. High-larious. Winning. Okay, obnoxiousness over... let's talk about what happens Friday night at Headliners . The Black Angels have had to twice cancel their Louisville appearance. Dudes made up for it in a big way with a blockbuster-ass bill for attempt three, which includes Spindrift kicking things off shortly after the 9 p.m. door time, and Dead Meadow , responsible for [...]

I've long had an issue with the Bottleneck, mostly because there was a time when the bartenders were rude and the place stank. Literally — around the time smoking was banned, the Bottleneck was one of the few venues that just couldn't get the funk out (hey there, Buzzard Beach!).… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]

Thanks to Production Simple, we have two pairs of tix for our readers. Comment below with what your Halloween costume will be this year and we will pick a winner at random on Wednesday. Good luck. Full details below... DETAILS: The Black Angels with Dead Meadow & Spindrift [...]
Dead Meadow does vintage rock right. The L.A. band (Meadow formed in D.C.) built its hazy vibe on psych-rock staples, such as Hendrix and Zeppelin.… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]

Dead Meadow is confirmed for the bulk of the previously discussed tour with The Black Angels and Spindrift , but the band will also play an NYC-area show of their own while the Black Angels are holding it down in Brooklyn. In addition to their support appearance on 10/30 at Music Hall of Williamsburg (one of three Black Angels shows at the Brooklyn venue), Dead Meadow will play Maxwell's on 10/29 . In other words: Oct 27 - Black Angels w/ Dead Meadow & Spindrift [...]

Windish Agency I've no doubt that Dayve Hawk loathes the term/scene/epithet "chillwave" that was attached to his musical identity of Memory Tapes when he emerged last year, and fairly so - its connotations were rarely positive, or at least applied without some snark, and many of the acts who would been considered his peers were kind of terrible. But if I hadn't done the cursory, "so what the hell is this all about" investigation, I might not have ever heard his debut Seek Magic and that would have been [...]

For differing circumstances, The Black Angels have had to twice cancel an appearance at Louisville's Headliners. The band is making it up in a big way though. Not only do they make good by returning to town in October, they're also offering up a blockbuster support bill - Dead Meadow and Spindrift. Show up early to this one, ya hear? Celebrate below with a classic cut from Shivering King and Others . The Black Angels with Dead Meadow and Spindrift Friday, October 21 Headliners, Louisville [...]

Austin, TX psych-rockers The Black Angels aren't giving fans much time to recover from their run of dates last spring. Following a few shows this month, the band will spend much of September touring around the UK and Europe. They'll then return stateside for a month worth of touring beginning October 13th in Houston. Supporting the band through much of the tour will be Dead Meadow and Spindrift. Check out the entire tour schedule. The band is playing in support of their September 2010 release, Phosphene Dream . The Black Angels [...]
[Dead Meadow - "Let It All Pass" MP3] When I awoke, I was alone in the house. I found an envelope outside my bedroom door, with a note thanking me for getting in touch with my family friend (and childhood babysitter) Lindsey, and for choosing to spend my night in Saint Louis with her and [...]
