Dead Mellotron hails from Monroe, Louisiana and is made up of one member, simply known as Frazier. He has made his debut EP, Ghost Light Constellation, available for free download in its entirety on the band's website. Full of sweeping distortion and epic spaced out drums, especially on Untitled , the EP gives me the same feel as when I first listened to Souvlaki by Slowdive. In fact, think My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive's epic dream-pop, mixed with Deerhunter's Space Rock sensibilities. It actually really come across as a seriously accomplished debut EP. Even though the shoegaze project Dead Mellotron has a name that makes me frown, I have to come forward and say they're a band to watch . And I use the term "they" loosely, because this band is really one dude from Louisiana. Dead Mellotron is equal parts pop and sound. Once you machete through a jungle of guitars, the vocal melodies are pretty catchy; but good luck deciphering any lyrics. Here, reverb is basically an instrument, and the drums are loud enough to wake the neighbors. It's late 80s shoegze through a lo-fi lense. [...]

Der Mann hinter Dead Mellotron aus Monroe, Louisiana versteckt sich. Er heisst Frazier. Hat via MySpace bei mir angeklopft. Was soll ich sagen? Lo-Fi, Ambient und Shoegaze im Stil von My Bloody Valentine. Musik zwar ohne Mellotron aber durchaus von bleibendem Eindruck. Und da mir gefällt, was ich höre, suche ich zunächst nach weiteren Informationen. Aber weder die MySpace-Seite, Google noch Elbows geben wirklich Auskunft.
