Tweet In the hip-hop world, Slick Rick is something of a legend, bringing the rhyme to the beat for well over two decades. So, it wouldn't be a stretch to have an alt-country leaning indie rock band like The Dead Trees pay homage to the rap icon. Only, the track 'Slick Rick' has absolutely nothing to do with the MC formerly known as Richard Walters. Instead, this LA-via-Portland-via-Boston quartet serves up a short and noisy folk-inspired number that ruminates on [...]
It may be hard to keep up with all the great music coming through the indie movement right now but The Dead Trees is not a band to let slip through the cracks.
The Dead Trees left Boston and took to the Pacific Northwest to hone their bright, sunny, lighthearted sound. After supporting tours with the Whigs, MGMT, Albert Hammond Jr. and others, the band felt it was time for change again, landing further south in Los Angeles. "My Time Has Just Begun" is the group's latest single off [...]

Enjoy. : The Dead Trees - My Time Has Just Begun : Somewhere along the way I missed out on the news that these guys [...]
The Dead Trees are nomads of sorts. The band formed in Boston, then moved to Portland, and now calls Los Angeles home, where the band found the inspiration that's to some impressive indie rock. They've toured with MGMT, Little Joy, The Strokes' Albert Hammond Jr., and they've financed their new album WHATWAVE completely by fan donations [...]

Moving from Boston to Los Angeles via Portland, Oregon, The Dead Trees confess that they are "wandering nomads". They've recorded on both coasts, toured three continents and supported Albert Hammond Jr. and MGMT. Restlessness, it seems, is in their DNA. It's also a big part of their music. Whatwave , their second full studio release, moves as quickly as a featherweight boxer, but hits a little harder, with punchy tracks which seldom clock in longer than three minutes. Its twelve songs in total run to less than half an hour, but [...]
![[Introducing] – The Dead Trees](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3658824_lg.jpg)
Tweet The Dead Trees owe a considerable debt to Albert Hammond Jr , in part because he's twice taken them on tour with him, but more because his jagged guitar playing informs so much of their sound. Maybe I'm being unfair. In this post-"Is This It" world it's tough not to hear the influence of The Strokes everywhere you look, and besides, on "World Gone Global", the lead single from The Dead Trees' latest album "What Wave", they [...]

"Back To LA" by The Dead Trees , from the Back To L.A. / Slick Rick single.

Bowlegs enjoyed The Dead Trees second album 'WHATWAVE' . Then we discovered it was produced by Noah Georgeson (Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Little Joy) and came off the back of tours with Albert Hammond Jr, MGMT and Adam Green. It suddenly all made sense and a set of questions to the LA based band became a priority. Bowlegs: Your debut release ('Fort Music' EP) got the attention of Albert Hammond Jr – how did that come [...]

I'm surprised with myself that I hadn't heard of The Dead Trees until I just saw them on indie shuffle (who apparently had a similar revelation days ago), especially when bands like The Strokes, Little Joy, and Adam Green are being tossed around to describe them. The Dead Trees are a group of excellently refreshing rockers, who, like vintage The Strokes live and die by the downstroke (not to mention the similarities between the video and The Strokes' tour DVD In Transit ), and their lead singer Michael Cummings definitely calls Little Joys' Rodrigo Amarante [...]

I'd never heard of The Dead Trees until a few days ago, but as soon as I heard this, I couldn't help but listen to the entire thing a few consecutive times. It's a charming, catchy sort of "fuck you" song, [...]

If settling down in a city were the same as settling down with a significant other, The Dead Trees would be on its third marriage. Having formed in Boston and then relocating to Portland, the band is now calling Los Angeles its home. However, if the good composure and charm of the band's latest single "World Gone Global" is any indication, Los Angeles is its best match yet. The song is the first single off The Dead Tree's recently-released sophomore album, entitled "WHATWAVE." The track carries the power pop appeal of Weezer with a touch of tropical jangle comparable to [...]
We liked The Dead Trees' latest record, 'Whatwave', and we like this video too. We see the band's frontman, Michael Ian Cummings, tumble out the back of the tour bus and have to walk his way to the high profile gig the band were set to play. On the back of their 'Whatwave' album we'd like to think they might get some even bigger gigs in the near future.

The Dead Trees: Whatwave A band originally from Boston and then Portland, Oregon, and now resident in Los Angeles, they seem to have picked up a lazy, loping, West Coast rhythm on their travels. Fortified by the Californian sunshine, that gives their songs a positive, upbeat feel. It's not all sun and fun, though: lyrics variously complain about aging, gentrification of home turf and rich kids (the strange 'Comfortable Kids'). But there's a [...]

Summer songs have always been hit or miss, with musicians skipping through genres and molding themselves on either catchy riffs or relishing in nostalgia. The young gents of The Dead Trees have your summer soundtrack locked-down in their newest release, 'WHATWAVE', a title which inspires beachy and nostalgic memories, and recollections of summers past that haven't quite shaken their hold on you. The album kicks off with, 'Slow Faze', a young, slow and mellow introduction to the band's head-swaying, reflective, country-tinged, folksy album. 'WHATWAVE' picks up with 'Slow Faze Fast', which, as you may have already guessed, is [...]
