Who knows music better than DJs, right? I find most of my favorite tracks hidden inside sets and mixes by my favorite artists (which is why Shazam is the shiznit!). A great DJ is a goldmine of music history, revealing fresh tunes along with those buried gems from the past we might have missed. In our never-ending search for NEW music, it's important to remember the relevance and value of the "old" stuff. My top 10 this week is plenty of new and old, and another homage to HOUSE - particularly of the [...]
Defected Records is launching a new label titled DFTD, with the debut release coming from renowned producer Guti . The vision of the imprint will be to focus on new and undiscovered talent, with the occasional release from an acclaimed act. The label will also host branded parties, kicking things off with a weekly party at Ushuaia Tower in Ibiza starting Monday, June 10th. The three-track inaugural EP from Guti looks to be a monster release featuring vocals full of soul and beats full of jazzy grooves. The EP is set to release June 3rd. [...]
The full story for "It's You" began in the height of Chicago house in 1985. Tommy Thumbs teamed up with Daniel Ellington as E.S.P. (also a reference to the Essential Sound Productions soundsystem) and penned the original track. E.S.P. never shot to house music stardom, but the track remained a cult favorite for decades. When Bart Van Neste, the producer known as Red D who had been playing the track in his sets for more than ten years, finally teamed up with San Soda (together known as FCL ) in the studio for a remake with Lady Linn on [...]
Zoo Brazil has long been one of Sweden’s more eclectic house forces. Aligned with Defected Records off the back of consecutive compilation duties for Raveline and Deeperfect earlier this year, the long serving producer drops a taste of things to come with “You Don’t Know Me.” Flowing grooves and sparing instrumental leads are the weapon of choice, employing the hypnotic wordplay of Ursula Rucker to forge a mesmerising high-point of versatile club fuel away from the deep house paradigm. Accompanied by a more ominous remodel courtesy of Santè, Defected Records adds to a considerably abundant playbook enroute to the summer clubbing season. [...]

If having Dirtybird's Eats Everything playing at the Ivy this Saturday wasn't already big enough, the Bristol based producer will now be joined by none other than trap maestro Baauer. For those that missed out on tickets to Baauer’s record fast selling Friday night show at Chinese Laundry, now is your chance to see the man in action when Merivale deliver you his encore Sydney show! 1st and 2nd release tickets are officially sold out! Buy the final tickets here [...]
International house connoisseurs Defected Records are in with the new for their summer residency in Ibiza this year. Having parted with long-term partners Pacha Ibiza last year, the label announces a new dual residency at newly established nightspots Bomba Ibiza and Ushuaia Towers , running from May 25 through September 28. As one of the many outlets to break from Pacha amid the White Isle's residential shake-up, the imprint kicked off it's weekly spree at Bomba Ibiza this Saturday with Dennis Ferrer , Yousef [...]
The last time Defected Records put out a Yousef track was November 2012 and it was "Beg," a song (along with Hot Since 822s remix) that topped Beatport charts for far longer than anyone could have anticipated. Now, Simon Dunmore's label is back with another promising cut from the Liverpudlian Circus Recordings main man and a dirty little edit from Polish favorites Catz 'n Dogz. Where the original excels in a smooth vocal track and relaxing melodies, the edit makes use of squelching bass lines and a trippy top line. Less emotion, more dancing. Purchase: [...]

Between waving the flag for minimalistic house music across the globe and spearheading his new Avotre brand, Berlin’s Santé certainly hasn't been slacking for 2013. Back on track to follow-up “Home Girl” for Defected Records , his take on Zoo Brazil ’s “You Don’t Know” drives an ominous undertone into the labels pre-summer artillery. This low-end favoring take is the perfect example of what has kept the German artist in such positive stead, using bold grooves and stripped back instrumental factors to forge a surefire hit for those who maintain a less-is-more mentality where [...]

Zoo Brazil ft. Ursula Rucker - You Don’t Know Me (Sante Remix) Forthcoming on Defected.
Simon Dunmore’s Defected Records imprint has done a stellar job of purveying the spirit and soul of house music, capturing the buzz of the initial American explosion and encrusting it into a new generation of talent from across the globe. But while times may have leaned towards a significantly mainstream overhaul elsewhere, the label’s proud roots remain on full display. Cue their latest (and shortest) mix, an intensive spree of nostalgic numbers to commemorate volume one of their For The Love of House compilation series. Scaling 30-classic house cuts in less than three-minutes, [...]

If you're a Househead and/or Technopile, this track will tickle your already buzzing tinnitus to a new level of auditory titillation. Hearing loss jokes aside, "Dance For Me" is undoubtedly going to pummel eardrums and melt faces in the club with its delicious 909s and sultry vocals. In an interview with Metrojolt , Roman commented on the track: "I can’t say the sample [laughs], but that was a track we’d been working on for awhile, throwing back and forth." Through the collaborative talents of Gina Turner and John Roman, the [...]
A living legend of house music, Larry Heard ( Mr. Fingers ), graced the Defected Records decks the other day with a formidable approach to how you properly construct dance grooves. In other words, he did a mix for them and that makes all sorts of happy all over. A pioneer of the late 80s and a recognized force within the beginnings of house music's upbringing through the 90s, Larry's been known most notably for his production prowess, while gaining the reputation as one of the most humble and good-natured [...]

Skream All Gone Pete Tong Miami 2013 The name undoubtedly on everyone's lips right now, dividing opinion and making some serious waves across the full electronic spectrum is Croydon's very own Skream, who recently announced he will be curating the second disc of a double CD compilation from Pete Tong, in the run up to [...]

You've probably heard about the match made in EDM heaven of producer/DJs Laidback Luke and Gina Turner. The two have taken their partnership to the next level with Nouveau Yorican , a project exploring their dual perspective on Latin-inspired New York house music, supported by the mighty Defected Records. Check out this interview where the duo talk about their creative process and influences as Nouveau Yorican. Excuse the late-pass on this one, the Nouveau Yorican outfit isn't "new" by any means, but their track "Diga Me" IS, released only a few weeks [...]
