El-P — "drones over BKLYN (censored mix)" Hard to believe, but it's been 4 years since El-P dropped the brooding, dystopian masterwork of I'll Sleep When You're Dead , leaving a smoldering crater in the world of underground hip-hop and changing my views on the genre forever. While he's faced no shortage of tragedies and changes in that time (the indefinite hiatus of Def Jux , the death of longtime friend/collaborator [...]

Sigh... OX 2010 the title just makes me miss Cannibal Ox...moment of silence.. proceeeed! Alright eventhough we miss the captain planetting effect of Vordul and Vast (with our powers combined)...still...haha this is a decent album. They reunite for a track on this disc and we talked about it a tad bit ago..but it leaves us wanting more. Overall, Vast's smart lyrics, some great fts and worthy production make this disc mad spinnable. Cheggerout! Vast Aire , OX 2010 A Street Odyssey , Via Man Bites Dog [...]

Oooooh "Culture of Fear". Sounds creeeeepy. Aah! Spooks aside, we do have some new Thievery Corp. flavor for your ear. MisterE hails from the Toronto area (I think) and is gearing up to release his sophomore album, Dusting For Prints on September 18. This song reminds me why it pays off to actually read my e-mails from time to time because I could have easily slept on this had I ignored it in my inbox. [...]
The ever-challenging El-Producto just dropped his most recent release, the instrumentally-driven Wereallgonnaburninhellemegamix xx3. This week finds the man behind Def Jux Records, Company Flow and a host of production credits offering a new video to pair with that mix's ominous and paranoid "Time Won't Tell." Those aren't adjectives formerly alien to El-P's production, but this one does seem particularly edgy for the maestro, if not as abrasive as his work has proved to be in the past. The video also features the skills of director Shan Nicholson, who debuted his own film Downtown Calling this [...]
Shot in what looks like a cinema-stylized and cropped-to-death 21:9 aspect ratio and featuring the urban sprawl/playground/decay of youth in wasteland-like conditions, the music video for the Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegam ixxx3 all-instrumental album track "Time Won't Tell" from El-P is all sorts of exceptional in its bare-bones approach and at the same time, the super-high level of production [...]

Welp. I'd link to think anyone who claims to like music is aware of this. But we all have our own lives to lead. El-P is flying in to present our city the album, and enjoy the city that Camu loved. ooohh so a national release in Columbus...say word.. but wait..lets not get too cool. [...]

el-p - "meanstreak (in 3 parts)" (download) I realize this track is floating around all throughout the internet, but it's too good not to post. From El-P 's brand new instrumental record Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegam ixxx3. This track will pummel your eardrums. Sometimes, listening to El-P 's production makes me want to quit making music. myspace buy

The late and criminally under-appreciated Camu Tao will have his debut album King of Hearts released via Def Jux / Fat Possum on August 14th. Tero Smith's death had a huge effect on the Def Jux family. Watching Aesop Rock perform the day after Smith's passing, it became obvious that El-P's gang of outlaw hip-hop stars were never going to be the same after his death. That being said, it's great news that King of Hearts will finally see the light of day, hopefully garnering the respect that [...]

Image via XLR8R El-P utilizing McCartney's "Live and Let Die" to remix Justin Bieber's "Baby," to create the most expensive song to legally clear of all-time. Earlier drafts surely included samples of "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Vogue." This song's existence is owed to a Twitter in-joke between El-P and XLR8R magazine, involving the Beebs and something called "UK Funky," which has nothing to do with the dance music sub-genre. I owe someone words on Jamie Meline's third megamixx (not sure who yet), but in the meantime, there is this, which sounds to [...]
