Denison Witmer released a new song, titled Brooklyn With Your Highest Wall , off his latest album, The Ones Who Wait . The album, according to Witmer, is about "patience and reverence" and came about after several significant events happened in his life with the death of this father, getting married, and becoming a father. It is scheduled for release on March 6th through Asthmatic Kitty . You can download and stream the song below.

Denison Witmer —who recently signed to Asthmatic Kitty Records —is releasing his new album on March 6th called The Ones Who Wait . Denison is performing at World Cafe Live on Sunday, February 19th with William Fitzsimmons. Below, download a new song from Denison, "Brooklyn With Your Highest Wall." It's a quintessential Denison Witmer tune: gorgeous, elegant, and melodic.

With guitars that bring to mind Rubies -era Destroyer, and a waif-like voice that brings to mind a dozen East Coast acoustic artists all at once, Denison Witmer 's 'Brooklyn With Your Highest Wall' is a delightfully melancholic way to end the week. Taken from The Ones Who Wait , out next month on Asthmatic Kitty.

Philadelphia songwriter Denison Witmer crafts songs of uncommon incisiveness, sung directly and piercingly in his simple tenor. I've known his music for a few years, having probably first noticed him through his musical collaborations with his friends Sufjan Stevens and Rosie Thomas. I fell hard for his cover of " I Can't Make You Love Me ," years before that fella from Wisconsin did it, and his song " The Gift of Grace " scores every Christmastime for me. I've adopted " California Brown and Blue " as [...]

They ran the last trucks through Paradise Lake Road last night, their claws clutching desperately at the piles of brush and branches which have covered the curbsides and yards since the month began. The high school seniors who worked so tirelessly to bring hope and helping hands to shellshocked neighborhoods the morning after their graduation did not happen begin to move on, visiting colleges, taking off for the summer. The church with the fallen clocktower posts daily on our facebook page, its requests sounding evermore desperate as it struggles to find enough volunteers to keep the momentum going. [...]

Photo by Joshua Ricca He's never been one to loudly call attention to himself; Denison Witmer is more the contemplative troubadour type, a student of the introverted 70s folk-pop of Cat Stevens and Jackson Browne. (Or perhaps more contemporary practitioners like The Innocence Mission and Red House Painters.) Even so, the Philadelphia release show celebrating his latest full length, The Ones Who Wait , came to World Café Live earlier this month with barely any fanfare. Wait - what's that, you ask? Witmer has a new record? Indeed he does, and it follows [...]

Northern Sky (Nick Drake) - Denison Witmer been a long time that I've waited been a long that I've known been a long time that I've wondered through the people I have known would you love me for my money? could you love me for my head? would you love me through the winter? would you love me till I'm dead? oh, if you would and you could, come blow your horn on high [...]

Happy Mothers' Day to all you mothers out there (Mom-my mom i'm talking to-i know you'll read this at some point so, love ya and happy day that symbolizes how special i made you by being born!) I was thinking about what i could post that would make mothers out there happy. But then i said to myself "No Michael Buble." So that was that, even though i do have a soft spot for his music. Then I thought "But wait! Not all mothers like the same music!" so my mind then shifted to making a post for [...]

We're huge Denison Witmer fans here at Cover Lay Down, and the feeling is mutual: we were honored to be chosen as ongoing host for the five-track "bedroom folk" covers collection which Denison recorded to support the 2008 release of Carry The Weight, his last full-length studio album, and we were proud to feature an exclusive, first-peek stream of his sweet version of I'll Keep It With Mine back in October, in support of Subterranean Homesick Blues , an incredible 2010 indie tribute to Dylan's seminal Bringing It All Back Home. [...]

It's Spring, and that means rebirth: when the earth reemerges from the earth, covered in last year's leaves. When the morning is filled with brave still-chilled birds, proffering a soundtrack for our triumphant return. It's also school vacation, and that means our annual trip down to North Carolina's Outer Banks, where we join up with family members more typically spread far and wide across the country, enough to spill into two adjacent houses. In past years, as with most of our excursions to various and sundry parts of the world, [...]

Five years ago I moved out of the San Francisco Bay Area for the snowy, crisp mountains of Colorado. I absolutely love my adopted home, our vibrant music scene, and the fresh air here, but no foolin' I do often long for my hometown hills. Over the holidays I went to San Francisco for a week to stay at the Noe Valley apartment of friends who were out of town and graciously let me "housesit." It was a part of town I had never stayed in before. When I first let myself into their empty place on [...]
