Indie Babe of the Week Tea Leigh , born out of Denton TX, but now calls Boston home, stole my heart with her specifically delicate tracks, that seep deep holes into you. Her track "Left Behind" is everything that is wonderful about lo-fi, girl and her guitar, acoustic pop. Over a constant fuzz, we feel like we are in the desert with the sun beaming down on us. With nothing else in sight, Tea's lovely demeanor helps us out a little bit. I think coming from Texas, and her experience with many of those [...]

We are very psyched to announce that we've teamed up with our friends at Spune to present an evening with GRIMES on Thursday, March 1 , at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton . If you caught her set at our 2011 SXSW party or our inaugural GvsB Fest back in July - or if you've heard any of her forthcoming album-of-the-year-contender Visions - then we don't have to tell you that this show will be amazing, and will likely [...]

The evolution of New York-based indie-rockers Grassfight has definitely been one of many stages (and mutations as it were). And 3 seems to be the magic number. It's been 3 years since their last release, and they've gone through 3 band members in just as many years. Not to mention the fact [...]

That thing where a band gets mad because you post an rough-early-recording. I've been holding off posting this for awhile because I had heard the band was recording new songs, but I figured what the hell. Pop Martyrs successfully usurped the position of my "new favorite Denton band," which is certainly an exciting prospect considering the thousands of bands within such a small area. Even with a straight-forward recording such as the one below, it's easy to see the potential this band contains. Post punk tendencies and maybe the less rambunctious songs of Sebadoh and Yo La [...]
A few months ago I saw Sundress in concert on 4/20, which was quite fitting cause these guys definitely took me on a trip (~~~). This promising Denton act put on a killer show and filled the room with their sonic atmospheres and enveloping psychedelia, making it a pretty hard act to follow for [...]
![[Introducing] – Tony Ferraro + The Satans Of Soft Rock](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3591438_lg.jpg)
Tweet Tony Ferraro is one of a few musicians in Denton, Texas that can be found here and there and everywhere. He's played in a multitude of local bands, several involving Ryan Thomas Becker of RTB2 . Not much has changed with the birth of The Satans of Soft Rock, which also features Becker. The debut single and B-side from the band were actually recorded to four-track cassette by Ryan Becker, then mixed and mastered by Michael Briggs of Denton's Gutterth label. It's [...]

After sweeping their brand of downer-punk through the Northeast last month, the boys from Copenhagen are finishing off the rest of the states with this trip. They'll bring their bloody nostrils and calloused fingers to Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios in Denton , far from their icy Kingdom of Denmark. With them they'll pack a damnful cacophony of guitar, cymbals and downtrodden lyrics that echo like they were birthed in a hollow tomb. Also on the bill is Denton two-piece Midnite Society , progeny and dissonant urchin formed from the death of house venue Majestic Dwelling of Doom. Hear [...]

Our good friends over at Austin's Paperthin Media sent over this gem of an EP this week, and we see that the word is quickly spreading about Sundress . The Denton quintet are releasing their EP on August 16th, and it should only brighten the star of press for the band. On this single you'll hear squalling guitars and a quieted vocal that rests just on the crest of the compositions. At times, your ears will hear a shift in levels, with the traditional rise and fall of your [...]

Denton's/Austin's (I have heard it both ways, but really Denton is way music cooler then Austin.. so Denton it is haha) Bad Sports recently announced they have a new siete incho coming out to coincide with their return to Gnashville venue, Glenn Danzig's house. These guys jam like a fax machine and they have a full length on it's merry way.Fn rippa! Bad Sports , Nothing to Do 73, July Via N▲shville's Dead Bad Sports - Nothin-To-Do
![[Introducing] – RTB2](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3533995_lg.jpg)
Tweet I'm just gonna come out and say this: RTB2 could kick The White Stripes' ass. If The White Stripes were still together. But since they are not, this little gem of a duo from Denton, Texas are at the top of the game. They are the new dons of the bluesy post-punk mafia. It's a small mafia, admittedly. The band's moniker denotes the "two" guys playing the songs of Ryan Thomas Becker (with Grady Don Sandlin on the drums), one of Denton's [...]
![[Introducing] – Fungi Girls](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3507575_lg.jpg)
Tweet I don't know about most people, but my high school years were simultaneously some of the most traumatic and thrilling of my life. That's not to say I wish I could re-live high school, because that would be hellish. I only wish that before I turned eighteen, I had made some groovy fuzzed-out jams like the dudes of Fungi Girls have. Not only made some fun jams, but then gone on to receive acclaim and mad love from the blogosphere. These kids from Cleburne, Texas (who cut [...]
Chicago's folky In Tall Buildings (a.k.a. Erik Hall) is featured in the newest Violitionist Session. What is a Violitionist session, you ask? Well, sir, it's a three interview question and three-song live performance from a band either from Denton, Texas, or passing through. In this case, In Tall Buildings was passing through and stopped by to chat and play two tunes from last year's self-titled record and a new song. The Violitionist Sessions aim to document a moment in time with no overdubs or recording tricks, and they've definitely accomplished that this [...]
[unofficial vid for Dreamed 's " Izumi " by "movie trash collage" artist the Tearist ] mp3: Dreamed :: Izumi
A big swelling bit of melancholy fuzz from Denton's Dreamed. It just floats above you on a swollen cloud of emotion, its more ethereal elements battered in some high wind of emotion. And then just like that, it's gone. Dreamed - Izuzi

I've held off on posting about this band because it seemed like everyone else had before the album was released all the way back in March. Even though there is hardly a whisper about the band now in the blogosphere, this album is still making weekly appearances in my world. One of the problems with music blogging is that even though 12 Hype Machine bloggers (including everyone's favorite I am Fuel, You Are Friends) this bands still feels under-talked about. Of course banjos and chamber folk-pop bands aren't for everyone, which is fine, but seriously folks need to hear this [...]

Thanks to Defensive Listening for the heads up on Dreamed , the bedroom recording project of Denton's Jessica Minshew . One of the stark " skeletons of songs " that she recently posted up on her Soundcloud page , " Izumi " elicits a hazy, soft-focus melancholy that sticks around longer than you'd expect. The song recalls the subtle but substantial emotional weight of the first Beach House record, as it swells into a legit heart-wrencher over the span of just a few listens, mostly on the strength of a simple and moving melody and [...]
Fireworks Child, the sophomore EP from Texas native Jessie Frye is being released this week.

If there's one thing I remember best about high school, it's that indie rock seeped into my life and slowly became what would be one of the greatest loves of my life. As a teen in those vital years of development, emotions are bound to run high and wild, and indie rock – in particular its inclusion of post-punk and post-hardcore – so perfectly captured this ever-moving ball of emotional frustration and confusion. With intertwining, spiraling, and, most importantly, adventurous guitar and bass riffs riding on powerful, dynamic drumming, the music conveyed every fiber of emotionality rather than one general [...]
Will Johnson - A Thousand Other Parts I've been playing this album nonstop from one of many great musicians to come out of Denton, TX. Will Johnson is the leader of Centro-Matic . Impressive number of songs on this album, all with scribbled romances and swelteringly happy loss. Here's the whole album:
