02 This summer, one of my favorite local bands, Churchill , released a set of covers they'd done of different Denver bands. I love that this city can do something so wonderful in a self-contained fashion. Their cover of Meese 's "Standards" was my favorite of the bunch. I can't tell you how excited I am about this Denver band (I'll try in the following sentences, which I know renders this first sentence pointless; but if you aren't not smitten with them like I am, I can't save you). The Lumineers are Wesley Schultz, Jeremiah Fraites, Neyla Pekarek, and their "stubborn hopefulness." The origins of the three-piece was in the solace that music provided when a loved one died of drug overdose in New York. Eventually, the band was formed in Denver after some gigs back East.
