Today I've got another amazing new video, this time showcasing the epic new light setup from Big Gigantic. This video done by Cinesthetics, caught their soldout Boulder Theater and Denver Ogden Theater shows. We already showcased the new lights from their Chicago NYE show, but this really lets you see how epic the setup is. You can see the unique light hive that surrounds both Dom and Jeremy as the play live Sax and drums in middle. I can tell this is going to blow peoples minds all over the country throughout this next year. For [...]

I remember the night I saw Drew Grow and the Pastors' Wives last October well. I was in the throws of concert burnout and an unrelated sugar coma. What started out being a night that I wasn't sure I'd get through ended up being one of my favorite shows of the year. There was one song in particular that I couldn't get over. I wasn't familiar with it so I asked the band what it was called. Then I spent a good amount of time scouring the internet for the release that contained [...]

02 This summer, one of my favorite local bands, Churchill , released a set of covers they'd done of different Denver bands. I love that this city can do something so wonderful in a self-contained fashion. Their cover of Meese 's "Standards" was my favorite of the bunch. Bethany's delicate vocals capture the vulnerability of the original. Churchill - Standards And as always, the original: Meese - Standards

Photo Credit : Julia Tobin "Mombi (Mom-bee) is the Denver-based songwriting duo of Kael Smith and Matt Herron. The two grew up together in Colorado and have been playing music together for the last six years. Songs are written around Smith's hypnotic guitar work and soft vocals, and fleshed out with Herron's piano and keys". A superb mix of ambient electrolica and cosy Folk, `The Wounded Beat` portrays a picture of overwhelming calmness, the eight track long player summons wide open spaces and infinite social wilderness. I adore the promotional photo above, [...]

Tennis, "Robin" find it on Young & Old (2012) Tennis is never going to win any awards for variety. They'll play their la la shit for you anytime, and you'll like it or...you won't. But their new album has a little bit more of what the French call production , and said production comes from Black Key Patrick Carney, and rounds the edges a bit more than on their debut, so it's a little easier to...y'know, actually tell the songs apart from each other. This [...]

It's always cool hearing artists drop a variety of kinds of music. RPM's last album Colors in Disguise went a little on the bass heavy side, and this track is a more laid back sample based track. This one "Last Night" Ft. fellow Colorado producer Rodway, is a new track given away for free by both artists. The guitars and vocals, chopped up in melodic way work very well. Turn it up, enjoy! Here's a new song from Denver based outfit SAUNA who, despite their land locked location, create some fun and intriguing surf doo-wap style pop music. The track below "Please Don't Go Away" is in the same vein as some of the swooning tunes from Cults, but then other tracks throw more punk your way similar to Thee Oh Sees . Check out the tune below or a few more on their Teen Angst Tape EP via bandcamp . Download: SAUNA - Please Dont Go Away [MP3]

I topped out 2011 with 67 shows under my belt. I have been taking a bit of a break in 2012 to regain momentum. And actually, I can't think of a better way to kick off the year than with Descendents and Hot Water Music at the Fillmore Saturday (January 28th). I'm trying to write something coherent about this gig but like pretty much every other punk fan in Denver (and elsewhere) my thoughts are along the lines of "!!!!!!!!!!!" Come on, both of these bands are legendary [...]

Give me the soft, soft static, with a human voice underneath It might seem sacrilegious for a Frightened Rabbit fan like myself to declare a cover of one of their songs better than the original but that's what I'm going to do here. John Statz has stripped the song down to its essence and melded it along with the songs around into an album that captures a nostalgia that the title implies. His cover of Old Old Fashioned appears on his new album, Old Fashioned , which is out [...]
Naming implications of both song and band aside, listen to "My Christ" and tell me you don't hear magic coming out of Colorado. No, I'm not talking about Tebow time - this is Gauntlet Hair! Sounding in equal parts like a mirage and an 80's arena anthem, this track is washed in reverb and rinsed in an echoing beat that makes me wanna buy a smoke machine and strap on a guitar, stamping my foot emphatically while I blast notes out of the end of my fingertips. I've only ever heard one other track of Gauntlet [...]
As promised here are my photos from the second night of the Great Cycle Spectacles run in Denver at the Fillmore this past weekend. If you missed my photos from night one, check them out here and read on for my shots from night two...

I can't tell you how excited I am about this Denver band (I'll try in the following sentences, which I know renders this first sentence pointless; but if you aren't not smitten with them like I am, I can't save you). The Lumineers are Wesley Schultz, Jeremiah Fraites, Neyla Pekarek, and their "stubborn hopefulness." The origins of the three-piece was in the solace that music provided when a loved one died of drug overdose in New York. Eventually, the band was formed in Denver after some gigs back East. Out of a terrible loss, something beautiful was born. [...]
STS9 played a sold-out two night run at the Fillmore in Denver this past weekend as part of their Great Cycle Spectacles shows. Check out my photos from the show below and check back soon for my gallery from night two! Shows were sick! The band plays two shows this weekend in Chicago under the [...]

Tweet vaso link Denver's Gauntlet Hair have inserted themselves back into my consciousness with the impending release of a new 73. (They're really not ever too far from it, however, with my ever-burning need to hear "I Was Thinking..." at least once per week.) Culled from their self-titled debut from last year, "My Christ" is the third single they've released from the album. Saturated with their signature reverb, "My Christ" can sound downright cavernous at times (which makes [...]

I love Tin Horn Prayer . Like in that way where I take way too many pictures of them and go to all of their shows and they should probably consider a restraining order...if I wasn't so cool. Anyway, this song came up on my iPod during my commute this morning and ended up with it on repeat throughout the day. It's angsty and shouty and full of harmonica and harmonies, so my kind of song through and through. Give it a listen below and you can download "Wretch" and download all of Get [...]
