Drummer for Pains of Being Pure at Heart Kurt Feldman has always been the one in the group who seems to keep himself busy during lulls with his full time band. Between his time with his original group Depreciation Guild , POBPAH, and now with newer group Ice Choir , the guy gets around. His current project Ice Choir just released their very first 73 single "Two Rings" via Shelflife Records a couple days ago and we're pretty pumped to pick it up. The style truly embodies the genre synth pop and [...]
The debut single "Two Rings" from the Ice Choir is officially released today in the UK/EUR through Yesboyicecream and in the US through Shelflife . Here's the official video for the track directed by Ryan Louie. Order here!

Theres been plenty of significant interest in what Kurt Feldman has been doing over the last couple of years. You may recognize him from his drumming in The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart or for his guitar/vocal work in Depreciation Guild . You may not, however, know that hes teamed up with Raphael Radna( Depreciation Guild ) as well as a couple others and formed himself a little electro-pop band called Ice Choir . While Ice Choir still has yet to release anything formally, they have recorded [...]

[The Depreciation Guild at the Black Cat in Washington, DC in 2009. Photos by Mehan Jayasuriya - see his Flickr stream here .] The Depreciation Guild are no more. Perhaps owing to the success of their other projects (such as lead singer Kurt Feldman's other band, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart , for whom he is the drummer) the members have decided to part ways. Though the band's earliest material was basically chiptunes, leaning heavily on a modified 8-bit NES console for most of its beats, by the time their final record, [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Josh Eustis/myspace.com/thedeprecia tionguild If the rumors are true, the Depreciation Guild has powered down its 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System console -- once called by lead singer Kurt Feldman "the most talented member of the band" -- for the last time. Performing Saturday night (Jan. 15) at the Rock Shop in Brooklyn, N.Y., the locally based, blip-gaze group offered nothing in the way of a farewell, [...]

So I've finally emerged to add my list of favorite records from this past year to the pool of billions of other lists. Apologies all around for the lack of activity around here lately, but the end of the year is always a busy one for me and hopefully I can get the ball rolling once again at the start of the new year when things start to calm down. Anyway, here are my favorite releases, many of which who read the blog have probably already seen/read about/heard already...but oh well. Some singles that I enjoyed... [...]

New on the Brooklyn side of the world, the lovely boys from Dinowalrus have another energetic track for our listening pleasure. 'Phone Home From The Edge' has flashes of Psychic TV, Brian Eno, and the Stone Roses with a dash of ET the alien. These days the band comprises of former Titus Andronicus guitarist Pete Feigenbaum, synth and bass wizard Liam Andrew, and just recently joined Depreciation Guild drummer Anton Hochheim. If you're hanging around the city make sure you check them out an say Hi. They're known for their killer live show. [...]

I was somewhat hesitant on doing this list. But I was like heck with it and list down my favorite shows of 2010. Going through the photos I've taken in 2010. I made a list of my Top 20 favorite shows in and out of Ottawa. Enjoy the photos. Please comment if you feel a show was missing. Caribou and Toro Y Moi at Babylon Nightclub The first of two shows Caribou did in 2010. The show on May 4, 2010 was fun [...]

Not a whole lot is has been happening lately, yet at the same time there is still plenty to talk about. I admit that I'm a little late to the party on a couple of these releases, but I couldn't resist sharing them anyway. Small Black : Photojournalist/Sun Was High (So Was I) - As I mentioned a couple of entries ago, one of this year's unexpectedly great records was Small Black's New Chain . If [...]
