happy hockey day in canada!

happy hockey day in canada! To celebrate this year's Hockey Day In Canada , I created this set of minimalism posters representing all 30 NHL teams + the 4 games that will be aired on CBC .

Touring the Lego Offices

Touring the Lego Offices Fast Co. Design took a tour of the Lego offices in Denmark . It's safe to say its office is better than your office. These are folks who play for a living, after all. (Lucky jerks.) So for Lego PMD in Billund, Denmark-where the toy giant develops new products-Danish designers Rosan Bosch and Rune Fjord created a 21,500-square-foot big-kid funhouse. There's an aerial walkway covered in blue padding to resemble a puffy cloud. There are cartoonishly oversized wall graphics, including one of the Lego man, and lush bonsai gardens built into the tables. There's even [...]

RV Design Magazine ;)

It's been almost three months and it's about time I post the before and after pics of the RV. It might show that I've got a history being Art Director for an Interior Magazine... haha. As you know we bought this old beauty in FL in November to become our home for the next two years. Naturally we weren't keen on keeping the turqouise carpet. And when pulling off the old pinkish wallpaper a whole bunch of waterleaks apperad as well. But most of it has been taken care of now. We spent two weeks rippng everything out [...]

Internet Memes as Minimalist Movie Posters

Internet Memes as Minimalist Movie Posters "With 90% of internet creation being based off the peanut butter and jelly premise, internet memes and minimal movie posters were bound to collide eventually." - Maske . I sense a slight depression in Maske, as if there's a crushing sadness, a depressing inevitability to these posters . With that said, the design of these posters is tight.

Another USB Power Outlet

Another USB Power Outlet Last year, around this time actually, we wrote about a USB Power Outlet from Fast Mac . Now, according to the New York Times there's another USB power outlet offering . This one comes from " Power2U " and will set back consumers $30. The outlets are UL-certified for use on a 15 amp 125 volt circuit. The company said the outlet was compatible with iPads, iPhones, iPods, Android tablets and phones, tablet computers, cellphones, game systems like Nintendo, Sony and PlayStation, Bluetooth headsets, digital cameras and GPS devices that charge through a standard USB [...]

Year of Voices: January

What once were scattered, off-key, and hushed, my voices (heart, body, mind, spirit) are becoming more and more steady and unified this month. After being fired from my full-time job, realizing I had been in a quarter-life crisis , ending a 6-year love saga in November, disappearing into the rainforests of Costa Rica in December, and bouncing around New York earlier this month, I've been settling in again at my mom's spare house here in Dallas/Fort Worth. It began with looking at this house and seeing how it looked and felt like me, broken down, worn out, and falling [...]

Impressions of Corporate Logos by a 5-Year-Old

Fresh Impressions on Brandmarks (from my 5-year-old)
Graphic and identity designer Adam Ladd asks his 5-year-old daughter her impressions on some popular logos. The results are hilarious, including her admission that the logos for Jaguar, Puma, and Greyhound are all cheetahs. The interesting takeaway from this is how powerful a logo can be with brand identity. Notice how the little girl instantly recognizes the logos for Disney, McDonald's ("It's a M made from french fries"), Nike, Apple and Starbucks ("that's the coffee place")? If a five-year-old makes a concrete connection between your brand and your logo, then your company is doing something right. [via [...]

It's always great to see someone put out something as...

It's always great to see someone put out something as... It's always great to see someone put out something as unique and creative as this vinyl 'mix cd' . It's amazing how much it looks like the real thing. It even has a shiny CD-R back side. See more pictures and read more about it over on Creative Review (including some other easy on the eyes vinyl releases).

The Waterways of Modern Communication

The Waterways of Modern Communication Eric Fischer has been using available location data to map Twitter traffic of major cities . The results are a "beautiful cartographic representations of our information flow," writes Josh Weinland at Clusterflock . The image above is of New York and it's fascinating how much Twitter traffic in a major city resembles a nervous system or the map of an older population center driven by available waterways. Other metropolitan areas seem to clustter around major roads and transit ways, except for Chicago.

LEGO Teams Up With Moleskine

LEGO Teams Up With Moleskine LEGO and Moleskine have gotten in bed together to create a LEGO-themed notebook series. The collection will be available in limited quantities starting March 1st of this year at Moleskine's webstore . These would be great if all they were was a Moleskine notebook with a bit of LEGO decoration, but the series is encouraging people to "think with your hands," which is a message I can get behind. 99 Things You Can Do For A Better Year (A Bitch Could Be One of Them)

99 Things You Can Do For A Better Year (A Bitch Could Be One of Them) I generally feel numb to any inspirational posters because they always seem so trite and full of fortune cookie wisdom. Under Consideration's list and poster of 99 things you can do to have a better year is quite superb from a design standpoint. That alone makes it worth sharing, however, it also has a lot of great suggestions for living life. It's all about taking on challenges and doing things for the sake of them. Life can really get in the way of life. Which also sounds trite, but what I mean is it's easy to go to work, [...]

Vimeo Gets a Spiffy Redesign

Vimeo Gets a Spiffy Redesign Last month, YouTube underwent a redesign with a focus on the social elements of subscriptions and playlists. But really, not much changed. Vimeo, on the other hand, has focused its redesign on the experience of watching videos . Vimeo's new video pages are optimized for viewing with a 960×540 video player at the top and related info — comments, likes, tags, etc. — hidden below the fold. For viewers who want to navigate other related videos, Vimeo has added a tab for "More Videos" that unveils related videos along the top of the page. By [...]

America Is Fucked... (Graphically at least)
Graphic designer Aaron Draplin tells the potty-mouthed story of the time he got drunk, bought a massive sign on eBay and came to realize America was fucked (graphically at least). The video is about three years old, but I'm just watching it for the first time and Draplin make a great point about how great design essentially requires an incredible attention to the little details.
