I like Destroyer. The Canadian producer/band (I'm not sure even he knows quite what the make-up of the project is as it changes members so much) makes slightly spacy, intelligent and really good music. Last year he released Kaputt , which was great. As I liked it so much I'm going to share a couple of my favourite tracks from it in the hope that you'll like them enough to go out and buy it and listen to it lots. He's also a key member of The New Pornographers, so if you like this you'll like them, and vice [...]

Frank Yang Though his punk credentials are beyond reproach thans to his tenure in Propagandhi , John K. Samson has always cut a bit of a curious figure in front of The Weakerthans . While his bandmates are more than willing and able to play the part of rockers in turning out muscular guitar riffs and solos, Samson by comparison has always been a bit slight of stature, reedy of voice, sheepish of grin; the thoughtful and verbose folksinger who somehow ended up fronting a rock band. I don't know if the [...]
The Dirty Three has a new album coming out, their first new album since 2005's Cinder, a long break for the Melbourne trio who play violin, guitar, and drums, no singing, just brilliant music, the first and maybe only rock band to feature violin so prominently, or so impressively. The new album is titled Toward the Low Sun and is coming out in February followed by a tour of Australia and New Zealand in March and some festivals in the UK and Europe over the summer. No word yet on an American leg. But here's [...]
RE: Dan Bejar. The latest Mojo compilation to hit newsstands is a disc comprised of reinterpretations of New Order's second LP, 19832s Power, Corruption & Lies. The covers range from the fairly catholic to wholly re-imagined versions, with the key takeaway being Destroyer's take on the original album's eighth and final track, "Leave Me Alone." [...]

Music to Combat Commuting Doldrums 2011 takes the best of the tracks from the Blogophilia series. It's our sayonara to 2011. These tracks spun around in our heads for long periods during the year. We used download information and then feedback to compile the final list. It's hard not to go wrong, there were so many gems from 2011. So download and enjoy! Destroyer – "Leave Me Alone (New Order cover) Mojo Magazine is releasing a special album with this month's issue, a covers compilation of New Order's classic Power, Corruption and Lies which features contributions from The Golden Filter, Walls, Fujiya and Miyagi, Biosphere and more (quite the diverse bunch!). But my favorite of this collection—which also includes covers of the B-sides accompanying the album—is Destroyer's tight and propulsive take on "Leave Me Alone". It's an appropriate move for Dan Bejar and co., considering the cornucopia [...]

Up until compiling this list, I was pretty sure 2011 was not a fantastic year for music. Well, I may have been completely wrong. There might not have been giant releases from the most prominent artists of our generation, but this is only because there are no more prominent artists of our generation. The internet and availability of music has made anybody a contender for making a great record, and I believe it has become a complete toss up as to who makes a future classic in any given year. Relax, for this is a good thing. Here's my big [...]

As part of a compilation CD included in next month's issue of Mojo magazine, we have a very excellent cover of New Order's "Leave Me Alone" by Destroyer that was released a day or two ago. The compilation contains track for track covers from 13 different artists of the seminal 1983 album, Power, Corruption & Lies . After listening to it a couple just now at my desk, I can say that this is a fairly faithful cover of one of my favorite, though, underrated [...]
There was so much really great music that I heard this year, to the point that putting together these lists was quite difficult and time-consuming. But even so, there are still a lot more albums out there that were recommended to me by others that I simply never got the chance to hear, as well as some that I felt needed more listens for me to fully absorb them, so they sadly won't be showing up on here (Danny Brown, Julianna Barwick, The Weeknd, Fucked Up, PJ Harvey, Main Attrakionz, Tune-yards, Yuck…I could go on and on). I'll [...]
