The second season of IFC's sketch series Portlandia premiered earlier this month. For all the comedic acclaim stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein receive, they garner equal acclaim for their musicianship. We recently covered the duo playing "Push It" on their Portlandia tour, and now they have covered Devo's "Beautiful World" during a Rolling Stone interview that turned into an informal session. The song is already a familiar selection for Armisen, with Brownstein trying to learn as they go. Despite the way the performance teeters between part lesson, and part solo, it's charming, and the conversation that leads them into [...]

Gawky synthpop scamps quivering in corners Bergen's Casiokids may once have been although in the wake of their third and debatably most muscular full-length, Aabenbaringen Over Aaskammen, they return to the tenebrous caverns of London's underground to sell out Rivington Street's swankiest subterraneous railway tunnel, Cargo. It's our inaugural Eat Your Own Ears show of 2012, and it left us stupefied; asinine beam indelibly etched from ear to ear; genuinely thankful an irrepressible festive greed never resulted in the gnawing of aural receptors... Up first however are FAMY [...]

ARTIST: Devo - [Photos] VENUE: The Fillmore - San Francisco, CA - 01/14/79 DATE: 01-24-12 REVIEW BY: Raymond Ahner PHOTO: Raymond Ahner Devo brought their Something For Everybody tour back to San Francisco for the second time in less than a year this past weekend, and judging from the capacity crowd who were dancing and spilling their drinks for the entire set, the band did indeed bring something for everybody. Iconic '80s cone-heads, Devo, pleasured young and old at Fillmore, San Francisco.

When it comes to the quirk of the cult, few acts or artists arouse and instil such staunch sense of belonging nor dedication-related reward as Ohio's finest, Devo . Tonight they take to Huntington, a serenely sinister, seemingly dormitory town on the spindly peninsula of Long Island: the windswept streets are lined with Santa parodists crawling from one satirically ornamented watering hole to another, delivering drunken carols as if they were rickety sea shanties, consequently adding further ersatz menace to this Gilliam-like land of no return. More precisely however, it's the eerily pristine Paramount that's to be our bizarrely [...]
Art rock band Devo played NYC's Irving Plaza last week, and here's a cool video of the band playing the great double song "Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA". This band has been at this since the early to mid-1970s! And they still sound like they did in 1977, when they first appeared on the national consciousness! Amazing. Brilliant stage gear, too! The band has set up some shows on the West Coast as well to kick off 2012. Jan. 13: San Francisco, CA - Fillmore Jan. 14: San Francisco, CA [...]
Devo - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (by docinwestchester ) Broadcast live on SNL, October 14, 1978. "Devo's appearance on Saturday Night Live on October 14, 1978 was a visitation from a rock and roll galaxy far far away and yet so near. It was as if aliens from another planet had created a concept of Earthlings based on old television transmissions they'd hijacked of industrial training films, Triumph Of The Will , episodes of Hullabaloo and Saturday morning cartoons and then spewed it [...]

MSNBC is reporting that a group of artists including Devo , Yo La Tengo , Third Eye Blind , Toots and the Maytals, and more will be contributing songs to a compilation entitled Occupy This Album . Proceeds from the album will, fittingly, benefit the Occupy Wall Street movement. Filmmaker Michael Moore will also reportedly sing on the record. The money generated from sales of the album will be distributed to the movement through the non-profit Alliance for Global Justice, who plan to give half the money to the original New [...]
"Big weekend," so says the guy at the water cooler today. This time, he's right - and not because he piled on fourths at Thanksgiving dinner, or nabbed a 323 television for $25. A lot happened. Simply put, music never sleeps. Just take a gander at what went down in our news feeds between Wednesday and Sunday. The Weeknd released his first-ever video, Florence and the Machine covered Drake, Lupe Fiasco dropped a new mixtape, and David Bowie didn't sanction a British musical. Somewhere in there Yo La Tengo decided to get political and The Flaming Lips nailed [...]

The Occupy Wall Street movement has already spurred an offshoot called Occupy Musicians . Now, as the Associated Press reports, a star-studded benefit album titled Occupy This Album is in the works. Due out sometime this winter, the collection will feature a mix of live tracks and new songs from the likes of Devo, Yo La Tengo, Ladytron, Crosby and Nash, Lucinda Williams, Warren Haynes, Third Eyed Blind, and even filmmaker Michael More, who reportedly sings. The album is being curated by a musician named Jason Samel, with all profits going to the Alliance for Global Justice which [...]
Filed under: News , New Music , New Releases Slaven Vlasic, Getty Images It was only a matter of time until the Occupy movement spawned an album. Now the 99 percent can get fired up with 'Occupy This Album,' an environmentally-friendly digital release featuring musical heavyweights like Crosby and Nash , Devo , Lucinda Williams , Yo La Tengo , Toots and the Maytals and Third Eye [...]

Regardless of your spiritual allegiance or thoughts regarding freezing temperatures, the winter/holiday season is an interesting one. There's something about this period of the calendar year that just feels different from everything else. Summer has the vibe and energy of hot, sticky freedom; spring lives and breathes with the promise of a reawakening; and fall is all about getting in line and preparation. Winter, though, is slightly more splintered. Some people see Christmas/Hanukkah/the Winter Solstice/Festivus as a time for family and friends and celebrating the inherent warmth and goodness in us all. Others view these as tired traditions, [...]

Neil Young's Ohio, made famous by Crosby Stills Nash & Young, is a protest song referencing the horrible events at Kent State University on May 4th, 1970 that left four dead and nine injured. Recorded just three weeks after the fact, it was pressed to single and rushed to radio stations with the B-Side Find The Cost of Freedom.
