![[Playlist] A Meaty Vacationing Mixture](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4052057_lg.jpg)
Hello friends and others. I am off on a mini-vacation tomorrow (see above picture). When we get back from Mexico the plan is to finish packing up our house and move to Vancouver...finally. Life will be pretty wild over the next few weeks so I highly doubt that there will be much new music posted up here. As a present, here is a playlist that I will be listening to while sitting by the pool, eating tacos, drinking chi-chi's and playing some serious Scrabble. Till then... 1. Dirty Gold - California Sunrise [...]

Devotchka @ Metro in Chicago in January ( more by Ben Rodig ) The accidentally revealed it on the intitial tour announcement , so we always figured there would be two, but now the 2nd is annnounced too: " The Magnetic Fields have added a second show at the Beacon Theater in New York City on April 4th, the day following their current, nearly sold out show. Devotchka (acoustic) will open the show. Presale tickets are currently available via Music Today [...]
10. The Antlers - Burst Apart Coming up with a follow up album after the crazy success of 20092s Hospice was a very tall order to fill. While I don't think that anyone would say that Burst Apart is a better album it certainly wasn't anything that you could write off as a sophomore slump. The story telling and ability to write melodic songs about the saddest subjects ("Putting The Dog To Sleep") is still in full swing . The Antlers - "I [...]

The accordion, ukulele and brass contingencies left us standing at the altar this year. Beirut disappointed . tUnE-YarDs served up a couple of nice appetizers . Her Name is Calla partially disbanded . And we're not even going to talk about Radiohead . There were some solid releases along our more traveled paths (read: Bon Iver , Laura Marling , and Feist ). Korn came very close to releasing a masterpiece , 18 years into their career. Ben Frost and Daniel Bjarnason scored with a rescore . And The [...]

![[Introducing] – The Lost Cavalry](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3900862_lg.jpg)
Tweet Founded in 2009 by Mark West (former guitarist with Fanfarlo), The Lost Cavalry are a London-based alt-folk five-piece. Releasing their debut EP, "Waves Freeze To Rolling Hills" in 2010 on their personal label, Two Six Heave , they have recently released their EP "Snow City Radio" (also via Two Six Heave ) on November 21st. Upon first listen, it is easy to draw comparisons with Beirut as well as DeVotchKa, albeit with a decidedly more [...]

The gist on Clyfford Still, one of the most celebrated Abstract Expressionist artists in American history, is that for over three decades, nearly his entire body of work has been sealed away somewhere far from public and scholarly view. Part of the agreement stipulated in his will was that none of his individual works were to be sold posthumously. The sale of individual Still pieces was rare even during his lifetime, making his work extremely hard to find, but his entire estate was instructed to be given to whichever American city creates a permanent home for the entire opus. [...]

Hello...how are you? Well, it's been quite a long time. Perhaps there are two or three of you out there who still may read this. It's been a landmark year for me in terms of the gigs I managed to see. Mainly because I kept leaving Winnipeg. In February, I got to see Gang of Four in Toronto, and they were one of the most exciting bands I've ever seen. Unlike The Buzzcocks, who I saw last year, GoF are still clearly passionate and earnest about what they do. Andy Gill was a badass, and Jon King was a maniac. [...]

Music for music's sake. This is the message behind the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival , one of San Francisco's most anticipated musical events of the year. Funded by 77-year-old investment banker and music fanatic Warren Hellman, the event is free for the public and usually boasts around 750,000 people in attendance. This year was no different. With one of the most decorated and diverse lineups in the festival's history, including performances by Robert Plant and the Band of Joy , Bright Eyes , Broken Social Scene , and DeVotchka , this three-day assemblage [...]

Photos by Philip Cosores To generalise, Elbow deals in two types of songs: the anthems and the poignant. While people who love Elbow and go to see Elbow play live may want to hear more of the latter, their live shows consist almost entirely of the former. This could be disappointing for fans who want to see their favourite deep cuts reproduced live, but when you create grandiose music seemingly effortlessly, and glaze it with the honey-like vocals of Guy Garvey, there can be no complaints whatsoever that they decided to stick with the bigger numbers [...]
