A couple of months ago we shared with you the teaser for this incredible Diary Of Mu interview with Roisin Murphy , the full piece was only available to watch via iPad so I devoured it on mine and shared with you the highlights! Now for the first time online you can watch the full piece in all its glory! Watch Ro talk about her creative process, feeling ready to start work on a new album (!) and much more. You'll be 100% times more in love with her [...]

When chitchat falls to music, festivals and the city of Leeds, there’s usually only one event on everyone’s lips. Sadly it’s not Slam Dunk but all that’s sure to change now that Slam Dunk 2011 has left a crater-sized hole where Leeds Uni used to be. If you’re reading this (diary feature number four) then you’ve obviously realised this is my fourth rock filled music festival of 2011. I’d like to start by saying how stoked I am that you’ve stuck around to read what went down. For those that don’t know here’s a fun filled [...]

Is it odd to wish I was a sneaker head? Cats like Dallas Penn and my other peers are HEAVY into the footwear game, and have been for a bit. I like simple shoes, but I'd like to have a LOT of simple shoes. I'm comfortable in shit like New Balances, but with all the walking I do on the daily, I can jack a pair of dope kicks up. I'm on that " wear them a few times then keep them hidden " kind of stee-lo. Same thing with the streetwear - I [...]
Houston's history is dotted with albums that, fairly or un, have been swept aside. We'll examine them here. Have an album that you think nobody knows about but should? Email sheaserrano@gmail.com.... Continue reading "Remember Herney The Great's Diary of a Young Black Male?" >

Howdy friends to this third issue in my Diary of a Festival Addict; a diary that’s about as secretive as my credit card details over Sony’s Playstation Network. On the wind-stricken third weekend in May, the 2011 summer season kicked off in style with Liverpool playing host to HUB – North West’s finest alternative outdoor festival. Now in its 9th consecutive year, HUB has become recognised throughout the UK for its vibrant celebration of urban art, music and staged action sports. Collaboratively promoting Liverpool’s title as our planet’s most legendary music city, HUB joined forces with Liverpool’s [...]
I spent so much money at the garden center yesterday, the employees stood in a group, applauded and then released balloons. My backseat and my trunk were filled. Now, those new herbs and flowers, lined up on the walk, wait patiently in their pots. They wait to be planted into the deck window boxes and the two gardens, but it won't be today, another dank, cloudy and damp day. Earlier, when I went to get the papers, we had misty rain. The weatherman predicts the rain will be gone on Tuesday and leave in its wake a sunny day in [...]

Song: We Get Along Artist: The Slow Reel Sometimes it only takes a half a second to know that you're going to like a song. Sometimes it only takes about half a lyrical line to know you're going to love a song. This exact situation happened to me and The Slow Reel 's southern sweet tea flavored "We Get Along". Lead singer and bassist Rob Collier starts off introducing you to his new girl: "When she's a drinker, and she's a fighter, she get's a little out [...]
Song: What's Left Artist: Brooke Annibale Capturing the essence of a song and its title is a very difficult thing. I just said the word "essence". Really? Yeah. What I'm trying to say is song titles can be a tricky. Sometimes they're pulled from the chorus, or one random line, or they have absolutely nothing to do with anything at all. Maybe you pull a Sufjan and write a dissertation with the song title if you really want. With "Under Streetlights", Brooke Annibale not only [...]
Ed: Last weekend, the Beale Street Music Festival welcomed one of the stranger lineups of the season to Memphis: Cee-Lo Green, Ke$ha, Mumford & Sons, Jon Mellencamp, Lucinda Williams, Wilco, The... We have clouds again, and it's chillier than it has been, but today is perfectly still, not a branch is moving. The day will feel warmer. In the front garden, tulips have bloomed and more of them have budded but are still shut so tightly I can't tell what colors they are. I thought the squirrels, those spawns of Satan, had eaten all the bulbs just after they were planted as I remember the holes in the garden where I suspected the tulip bulbs had been planted. I was happily surprised to see how many have survived. My lawn is [...]

Hello again my music-loving brethren to this second entry in my not so secretive diary of a festival addict. With the glorious stench of Hammerfest’s molten metal having abandoned my nostrils, it was time for me to hit the road again for my second ground shaking music festival of this pre-summer season. The very first Hit The Deck festival arrived in the beating heart of Nottingham city centre and with it came a saliva-drooling smorgasbord of 37 bands, including some of Britain’s brightest and best new rock and metal talents. On [...]

So yes, the blog has slowed down in the past month. Getting laid off and having your laptop sent off to the doctor for a bit is bound to slow you down, but rest assured, your regularly scheduled content will be back soon enough. In the meantime, anyone pick up David Foster Wallace's posthumous release The Pale King yet? Anyone else as excited for Game of Thrones as I am?

Song: "Not Enough" Artist: J Mascis Pretend you don't know anything about J Mascis . Pretend you don't know about his axe-shredding guitar solos with Dinosaur Jr (and then with J Mascis and the Fog ) or his pounding drumming with Witch . Pretend you don't know that he probably has crazy tinnitus from countless hard-rock shows in crowded clubs over his career. If you don't know these things, this should be easy and, even if you're a [...]
7:00 am: Driving to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl flea market, we listen to our favorite radio show, Chuck Cecil's The Swingin' Years —a show that has been on the air in one place or another for the last fifty-five years. Anyone who lives in L.A. and isn't listening to this show every Saturday and Sunday morning (on 88.1), you're missing out. 8:52am: Sitting at the Rose Bowl food court feeding Coop yogurt while my brilliant wife scopes more [...]

The Ventures' theme to Hawaii 5-0 is #6, followed by #5 Tom Jones' "What's New Pussycat?", #4 Herman's Hermits' "I am Henry the EighthI Am", #3 Gary Lewis and the Playboys' "Save Your Heart for Me", #2 the Rolling Stones "Satisfaction". I arrive to the courts before I hear what #1 is. The Rolling Stones: Satisfaction [...]
7:00 am : My morning playlist was determined by all the people I follow on tumblr. Ever since I learned how to press play once to let all the mp3s on my dashboard play, I've been doing this a lot more. So, this is what tumblr was into as of 7:00 am this morning—quite poppy! Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen: Kentucky Hills of Tennessee Joni Mitchell: California The Ramones: My Back Pages The Shins: Australia Jimmy Eat World: [...]
