We've spent this week doing more figurative wrapping up of the year than we have literally wrapping golds, frankincenses and myrrhs, with both our Shows of 2012 and Records of 2012 features now alive and kicking, even if this year itself only has less than a couple weeks left in its legs. Here's hoping you've been able to vicariously experience evenings from the former category through us if you couldn't make them for whatever reason, though it's the latter that we're here centralising our attentions upon. As documentations of a determined time, records are the one [...]

You've doubtless already made up your mind on what were, subjectively (though this may perhaps be mistaken for a narcissistic objectively as is below), the records to have ultimately defined the year that was 2012. Personally, I wouldn't deem it to have been the best of years and though not the worst of years either, the dispersion of opinion on the top ones, twos, and various other fews across the board appears to reflect this. My maths is a little haphazard at the best of times – read on and you'll discover more on that – but the [...]

Over the weekend, Dinosaur Jr. celebrated the 25th anniversary of their classic album You're Living All Over Me with a show at New York City's Terminal 5, where the band performed the album in its entirety, along with a selection of covers and other originals from their long career. Throughout the evening, they were joined by many guests, including Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth , Johnny Marr , Kurt Vile , Frank Black (who performed Pixies ' "Tame" with the band), and several more. [...]

Dinosaur Jr have aged better than I could ever have imagined – I Bet On Sky is near on equalling the highs from back in the day. I’m talking Bug or Green Mind sized quality – or maybe thereabouts. OK so the fuzzy alt-rock trio have had internal bickering since the start, however, J Mascis and Lou Barlow seem willing to co-operate for the sake of good music. Mascis has tided things up a little since the original line-up reunited – you can almost define the edges nowadays - the guitars are [...]
With the third full-length LP since their reunion in '05, underground rock icons Dinosaur Jr. is doing what they usually do with the quality fans have come to expect. It's a bit more mellow than 20092s Farm , which has its ups and downs, but still very enjoyable to say the least. WATCH THE REVIEW

When a reunited band just keeps ... going, do you still call it a reunion? Dinosaur Jr. is set to release its third proper full-length since reforming the original line up in 2005. The new album, I Bet on Sky, is streaming now at NPR and comes out next Tuesday via Jagjaguwar. Similar to Mission of Burma's post-reformation output, Dinosaur Jr. hasn't embarrassed itself at all. In fact, each reunion album has bettered the one before it. Seeing the original trio back in 2007 was, well, "life-long dream" is a tad strong, but it was awesome nonetheless.

Dinosaur Jr.'s "Watch The Corners" is easily one of the best tracks this year. The band keeps on getting older, but instead of churning out lesser material, they seem to be getting better with age like a fine wine. They released a visual for the track at Funny or Die of some disillusioned yout raising hell. The vide was directed by The Director Brothers, produced by Sean Boyle, and stars Olivia Crocicchia, Jordan Martin, and Melanie Hawkins. Their latest album I Bet On Sky is [...]

Long time readers of the hot air generated herein will know that I favour record labels that happily dole out free MP3's of their exciting new tunes, trusting fans to give back to the artists to whom they are drawn. For this reason and so many more, I very much favour Jagjaguwar . Having released the widely adored debut of [...]

Late post tonight in an attempt to delay the inevitability of a new work week beginning tomorrow. Tonight's song comes from the American indie/alt-rock band Dinosaur Jr. , an all time favorite of mine. Over It can be found on the band's latest album Farm , released last month via the indie label Jagjaguwar ; Jagjaguwar is of course the label that was behind the re-release of Bon Iver 's debut album For Emma, Forever Ago . One of the things that I'm really digging about this track is how much it reminds of [...]
