The indie rock veterans -- who formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1989 and released their self-titled debut album a year later -- have issued seven studio albums, as well as compilations, EPs, live records and singles, but haven't put out a full Superchunk LP since 2001. That should change later this year when the quartet is expected to release a new and [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive With plenty of careers made due to only a famous last name, it's no secret that show business is rife with nepotism. TAB the Band , which features two sons of Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry , have decided to take a different route. While frontman/bassist Adrian and guitarist Tony Perry don't distance themselves from their famous father, they don't rely on it either. "Our goal is to get taken seriously in [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Exclusive , New Music While some may question the logic of hosting a multi-venue, club-crawl music festival in the middle of a Norwegian deep freeze, the organizers behind Oslo's by:Larm festival -- which wrapped up three days of boozin' and schmoozin' on Saturday night -- understand there's no better way to beat the mid-February chill than to cram into intimate venues and exchange body heat with a couple hundred sauced Scandinavian strangers. Now in its 12th year, by:Larm has [...]

So busy, it seems that multi-instrumentalist and singer Erika Elder hasn't had the time to finish her collaboration with Wilco guitarist Nels Cline. "The project with Nels is really long, and I procrastinate when left to my own devices," Elder tells Spinner. "I know Nels is very busy, too. We're doing the second edition of a John Fahey tribute for the label Ecstatic Yod, [...]

Filed under: New Music , UK , Band of the Week The screams of glee that have greeted the news Pavement are back, back, back shows just how long a scuzzily-recorded pop song stays in the memory. Leeds' Wonderswan were probably more interested in the goings on of the Scooby Doo gang than Malkmus and company when Pavement first slanted and enchanted, but in 2009 -- two decades on from the the salad days of lo-fi slacker rock -- the Leeds band are showing early signs of [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive , Book Club It's probably not often that Dinosaur Jr. / Sebadoh member Lou Barlow is portrayed as a character in a work of fiction. But that is what exactly happens to him in singer-songwriter Joe Pernice 's latest novel 'It Feels Good When I Stop.' Not only is Barlow is depicted in the book performing a concert, but he also gets to call out after some unruly fans and has some lines of dialogue with the main character. [...]

No exaggeration, Massachusetts based Dinosaur Jr.'s upcoming release, "Farm" might feature the most surreal and intriguing art I've seen in quite a while. As you can see, this fantastical scene depicts two tree monsters (ala Lord of the Rings) carrying some scantily clad women through a polluted, industrial cityscape. Coupled with the iconic and somewhat foreboding title, this release has drawn my attention to a group of which I had little knowledge. I had wrongly lumped them into the category of pre-alt iconoclasts(the Cure ect.) for which I have much respect, but little genuine interest. This new track is raucous, [...]

We don't have to talk to you about the importance of the importance of Michael Azerrad's Our Band Could Be Your Life. If you know, you know. If you don't, no amount of expounding on our part would help you to get it. For me, that book distilled all of the things I want to be as a rock critic: informed, eloquent, concise and cool as hell. I wasn't hip enough (or old enough) to hear Big Black or Mission of Burma the first time around. Azerrad pointed the way for me, and, I imagine, countless others, to [...]
