Major Lazer is back at Carnival this year and I’m excited. Last year's party was sexy as hell. The one armed ex commando, product of Diplo and Switch ’s electro-dancehall imagination, will be hosting his annual gathering under the Westway on Monday and this year he’s invited along some fellow friends and derangees, namely David Rodigan, Joker, Drop The Lime, Poirier and Sticky. Last year I ground away my Bank Holiday to a dizzying swell of house, Miami bass, baile funk and electro, all washed down with traditional dancehall rhythms. Judging by the line-up, [...]
For those of you who haven't yet heard of the animated zombie-slaying Rastafarian, Major Lazer , I have only two pieces of advice. First, come out of the cave you've been residing in, and second, come out of said cave ready to get your dance on. Major Lazer is the bass-heavy brainchild of DJs Diplo and Switch. In June of 2009, they released their debut album, Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do , to generally favorable reviews and huge community fanfare. With breakout performances at Coachella and HARD LA, they’ve become the dance [...]

What's left to say about Major Lazer? After attending every single NYC appearance, I thought I'd tire of seeing them live. Not so. Diplo and Skerrit Bwoy took over Øya's Vika stage with lazers blazing for one of the most explosive sets of the week. Though there were familiar elements I'd come to expect from a Major Lazer show - Skerrit Bwoy's "Pon De Floor" moves, girls dancing on stage, and a touch of Ace of Base - there were definitely some surprises in store. Assigned the sunset time slot, Major Lazer ushered [...]

Even though I’m not going back to school this time around, my summer is almost over, and like the one before it, this one had a soundtrack. Last summer's playlist was made up of Trojan Records box sets, Easy Star Allstars, and Leftover Crack (C4 can definitely vouch for that!), but his summer I've been vibing on more exotic electronic music that has been (justly) overrun by Diplo . In case you weren't aware, Diplo is a fantastic producer who seems to surround himself with the coolest and most talented musicians from all corners of the earth. [...]

Flow Festival was MAD FUN. Thanks to everybody involved. Now it's time for recovery..

What can be said about HARD LA 2010? First of all, this was held at one of the best venues I've ever attended-the Los Angeles historic state park near Chinatown. At first I was highly skeptical because HARD has had terrible choices for venues in the past. The Shrine Expo, for example, is more like a small gymnasium on the University of Southern California campus. When I attended Hard Halloween in 2008, it was far too crowded, poorly ventilated, and extremely cramped. It was very difficult then to simply get from stage to stage in the building's narrow walkways. [...]

Besides the Sahara tent at Coachella, the closest I have ever come to attending an actual rave was a Sasha and Digweed show that my friend's older brother took us to when we were 19. It was at some weird-ass place in San Francisco that I have never been back to and was most notable for the unreal looking Scottish chick that somehow joined us for our adventure and was kind enough to give us ecstasy induced massages. So Saturday's HARD Summer Music Festival at the LA State Historic Park in Downtown was completely foreign territory to me [...]

Tiesto and Diplo on the same track?!?!?!? That's like having Jesus as a WR and Moses as a RB. Endless options, guaranteed win. mp3: Tiesto Vs. Diplo - C'mon video: Tiesto Vs. Diplo - C'mon

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Canada Getty Images With all the big name rock acts taking over Osheaga 's two main stages, it can be easy to forget about the dance-friendly talent on display on the side stages. Montreal boasts one of the best electronic music scenes in the world, but it was a visitor that brought the biggest party to the Picnic Electronik Zone, namely Philadelphia's superstar DJ Diplo and his collaborative dancehall [...]

Labor day weekend promises to be a great one for New York City dance music fans: Electric Zoo is coming back for a second year of madness on Randall's Island! The promoter, Made Event , has put together an eclectic line-up, representing most of the subgenres of EDM in a way that most fans should enjoy. Electric Zoo holds a special place in my heart because last year's festival was the first large dance event I had ever been to, but this year I, and probably the rest of the EDM community, have much higher standards. [...]

The fine folks over at the Chicagoist reported on Friday, July 23, that The Hideout ’s annual block party will be held this year on Saturday, August 21. While no official details have been announced yet, Pitchfork unveiled DJ/record producer Diplo’s plans to take his Mad Decent records block party on the road with stops in several cities including Chicago at - you guessed it - the Hideout on August 21. Not one to let the Juggalos have all the fun, Diplo made his own video, which [...]

Don Diablo, the hardest working DJ/producer latest offering is a brand new collaboration with Mad Decent honcho and Major Lazer's other half Diplo. The track "Make You Pop" is a sick dubstep that make your world go 'POP'. Release will be out mid-August! Music: Diplo & Don Diablo - Make you pop (Don Diablo Dubstep Mix) by dondiablo

Major Lazer have released their full-length Guns Don't Kill People Do but were there any extra tracks that didn't make the cut? The answer is obviously YES and that is why Diplo + Switch have released a shorter EP titled Lazers Never Die. This should hopefully hold fans over until the next full-length.

Major Lazer have just released their 'Lazers Never Die EP' sporting three new tracks and two remixes. This appears to be only available in the US at the moment, however click HERE to hear streams of all five tracks. Perhaps the most interesting track on the EP is the Thom Yorke remix of Jump Up. Jump Up is very much in title as it is in listening and therefore not a sentiment you would often associate with one of music's more introspective characters. However [...]

It's the 20th of July 2010, aka. Diplo Day. Well not officially of course, but let just say that M.I.A.'s ex flame have had quite a busy day, (speaking of M.I.A. by the way, yesterday Billboard published an interesting read , post the turd). Not only does Diplo's documentary film about baile funk "Favela on Blast" première, no he has plenty more on his plate. Together with Switch he drops the highly anticipated Major Lazer EP called "Lazers Never Die" featuring Thom Yorke, M.I.A., Mr. Vegas, Collie Buddz, Lindi Ortega, Miss Banks and Buraka Som [...]

Major Lazer 's new EP, Lazers Never Die , is out digitally today. Long awaited since catching word earlier this year that a Thom Yorke remix of Jump Up would be included on the disc, we hold our breath no more. Fantastic. If you'd like to purchase the EP, and you live in the US, then your iTunes link is here [...]

It isn't nostalgia if the music still feels this vital.
Kind of some more underground, unhyped releases this week, though The Books' album has been getting some serious mentions and you can't go wrong with Department of Eagles . Also, Rusko's team up with the Dirty Projectors' Amber Coffman gets an EP and some remixes and for local Dallas fans the Toadies dropped their new one today . Check out all the releases below.
