2013 certainly seems to be a year chock-full of eagerly awaited album releases with Daft Punk releasing Random Access Memories in May and Disclosure's debut album, Settle , coming in June. Before these two, we're treated to the release of Major Lazer's second album, Free the Universe . Free the Universe is the first album from Major Lazer since Switch left the group for "creative differences". Since then, Diplo has fully [...]
So Major Lazer this week release Free the Universe for widespread consumption, and today thus becomes a monumental day; a special event, and one which would surely be honoured with a polychromic carnival of Notting Hill depravity were it only that bit more engrossing, even from the off. For it has been postponed, put off and pushed from pillar to post (read: label to label) since it was first slated for liberation earlier on in the year. Of course it somewhat inevitably marks a change in the trajectory first traced by Diplo in the [...]

In a recent interview ahead of the forthcoming 'Free The Univese' LP release, Major Lazer's one original member Diplo opened up at the reason behind Switch leaving the outfit. Before going in to detail, the globe trotting Philly born producer clarified "I couldn’t make music if it weren’t for Switch – he and M.I.A. were my main influences, and he taught me how to make music and gave me my style 100 percent,” he continues “But in terms of actually making records and finishing them, Switch doesn’t do that. And everyone knows that. He just can’t finish songs. He’s the [...]

The Diplo & Switch collective returns with the fourth installation in their remix series. As usual they provide the full spectrum of today's bass music while making sure not to neglect their island inspired roots. Personally I'm partial to the "Get Free" remix feat. Chronixx but the Snoop Lion feat. Drake joint is no slouch either. Stream and download the project for free below.

Mad Decent affiliates are a rare bread. Thats why when it comes time for a release, remix EP or not, it is important to take time out of your day to hear what all is happening. This could not apply more to the Express Yourself Remix EP. While "express[ing] yourself" has gone well beyond what Diplo could have intend (yet probably hoped), one of the most lasting tracks from the EP is that with Lazerdisk Party Sex , "Set It Off". With Riff Raff rapping over it and the best trap and [...]
For today's GMM we're rewinding to Major Lazer 's inception, when the production output was made up of Diplo and Switch . At the time, the pair had just released Guns Don't Kill People, Lazers Do and structured the mix with one hour from Diplo followed by another from Switch. Mixing in classic reggae sounds and future classic Major Lazer productions, the two producers gave listeners insight into the origins of the rasta-inspired beats Diplo has now championed for the last 3 years. With everything from slow, airy productions to harder hitting tropically-infused outputs, Diplo and Switch treated [...]

Short and sweet is the tone to this quick chat about a few changes and new projects in the world of the globe trotting, forward thinking prodcuer Diplo. The topic in question here are the changes going on in the roster of Major Lazer, an island inspired band and Dj troupe. Originally the group consisted of soley Diplo and Switch, made famous by their debut album 'Guns Dont Kill People Lazers Do.' As an early influence to Diplo Switch always seemed to be the production fire that sparked Major Lazer tracks into a different universe. Obviously either we are wrong [...]

Another incredibly produced track by Diplo , this time for English singer Alex Clare .. and a dubstep MONSTER of a track at that. He teamed up with Switch (Past member of Major Lazer) for the production and it blends organic sounds like the drum stick clanking and a HUGE bass wobbles, with Alex Clare's incredible voice powering the track. You may recognize it from the recent Internet Explorer commercials. Well I've also got an amazing bootleg remix done by Cazzette , the Swedish duo that is on the Avicii team who drops [...]

DJ A-BE , Get Lifted Tonight's designated event DJ and writer, recently recorded a trap mix for your listening pleasure. This "amateur" DJ from Brooklyn, as he humbly describes himself, takes inspiration from turntablists DJ AM and A-Trak , who “definitely know how to rock a party”. Although he grew up listening to hip-hop and Chicago house, he admits “a guilty pleasure for pop music” as well. You’ll see Abe lugging around his heavy Technic 1200s to parties in and around his university in the Providence area as well as to gigs in NYCs’s niche [...]
