Stressing contrast and composition, Bitte Orca barrels between percussive background vocals, distorted guitar licks, and hand claps on "Cannibal Resource" to fingerpicking, string orchestration, and sonorous female vocals on "Two Doves." Throw in some falsetto and tempo changes and you have one aesthetically complicated but imaginatively and meticulously crafted album. The Dirty Projectors performed "When The World Comes To An End" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on 9/28/09. Post from: The Galley Boys The Dirty Projectors - When The World Comes To An End (Live)

the twists and turns of dirty projectors ' bitte orca is nothing short of exhilarating, even when things get more sparse and minimal right in the middle of the album with a duet between amber coffman and an equally expressive string quartet. operatic without the distance usually associated with it, "two doves" is a platter of articulated loves both romantic and true, intensely adoring even in the face of daily failures, and emotively expansive amidst a sea of unspoken restraint. written when " the planets are aligning, for an afternoon that's never ending ", it skips and [...]
Post from: The Galley Boys Dirty Projectors - Cannibal Resource (Live on Letterman)
After sitting through Dave's Late Show and listening to Howie Mandel use up most of the time to talk about his OCD, Rumer Willis [daughter of Demi and Bruce] had to give up her spot until another day just to let Dirty Projectors do their thing. Thank you, Ms. Willis. We didn't want to make another indie band angry that they didn't get to play Letterman. Check out DP performing "Cannibal Resource": Technorati Us

Looks like another hotly anticipated release for September has been announced, and I don't know if I can handle all this coolness. On the 28th of that month, Dirty Projectors will release the four song Temecula Sunrise EP . It will include two songs from this year's Bitte Orca , and two as-of-yet unheard B-sides ("Ascending Melody" and "Emblem of the World"). Here are the two songs on the A-side of the forthcoming 123. If you're one of the four or five people in the indieverse who hasn't heard them, [...]
Last Sunday's JellyNYC Pool Party at the Williamsburg Waterfront — the second installment of this summer's series, recently relocated from its previous home at McCarren Park Pool — boasted the kind of diverse line-up (not to mention gorgeous weather!) that promised something for everyone. Hell, with on-site basketball and dodgeball games throughout the afternoon, even the jocks could cut loose a little while tanning their pecs, or whatever it is that meatheads do in the summer. Of course, the real attractions weren't the sporting opportunities, nor the delicious food options: What brought the hip and the hungover out [...]
Dirty Projectors and Atlas Sound play the Earl Friday night.

And then there were 16! After much soul searching and deep musing Dirty Projector's Bitte Orca, Mos Def's The Ecstatic and Clark's Totems Flare have been added to the very prestigious, Misspeak Music Best of 2009. Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca Off-kilter avant-pop with a wonderful preoccupation on the human voice. The spiralling vocals of Coffman and Deradoorian run the show here and this wonderful, wordless and instrumental quality that their voices add to the record's impressive arsenal is best exampled on Stillness Is The Move, a [...]

So the sun has finally decided to come out in Massachusetts, and it's about time. I glanced at my calendar today and discovered that it is in fact already mid-July (I'm still not entirely sure where June went), and that means we are over halfway done with 2009. In celebration here is a rough list of my 10 favorite records to be released to date. Have your own list? Feel free to post it as a comment. 1. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest [...]

It has taken me so long to get into Dirty Projectors . I'm not sure why, as it's become increasingly clear to me that this band is hugely talented and have a distinct uniqueness all their own. Sure, their recent collaborations with David Byrne and Bjork don't hurt, but this new video, stunningly shot by Matthew Lessner on Mount Equinox in Vermont, seals the deal. Their latest album Bitte Orca was released last month on Domino Records .

I don't put much stock into the ratings at Metacritic [as we were never included or answered back when we asked for inclusion, so suck it, Metacritic ] but The Dirty Projectors ' latest album, Bitte Orca , has been in the Billboard Top 100 for two weeks now and with the great press they have been receiving, I am starting to finally come around to the dark side; the people got this one right, I think. Bitte Orca is awesome ( from what I have [...]

They say you know how eccentric a band is by watching their music videos. OK, well, nobody really says that, honestly, but I think this series of moving pictures from the Dirty Projectors says something about the band's personality and eclectic mix of influences:The Dirty Projectors' latest LP is Bitte Orca, which we've covered here and here. Photography by Mezzanine Du Vinyl Finally Friday and there's usually a little truth to cliches, though I never understood what "God" had to do with Fridays (I think the "week" is a man-made invention of time measuring), but whatever, it produced a lovely fried foods chain restaurant and really, who can't go for a heaping helping of fried macaroni & cheese? I think my cholesterol just shot up a few points just by looking at that photo. Ah, [...]
