Something tells me The Pavilion's Aisling O'Riordan and Jack Collins may be tempted to pop into Plugd Records this Saturday... They say if you stand still in New York for a short space of time the entire population will pass you by. Stand still in Cork music venue The Pavilion for just ten minutes and stage production manager Aisling O'Riordan will have probably passed you by at least a hundred times, greeted everyone in attendance, put out a dozen fires and still be available [...]

While January has effectively lived up to its London billing as a month as drab musically as it is meteorologically, they're having a topsy-turvy time of it down under if recent triple j Like A Version sessions are anything to go by. First there was dear ol' Sharon doing Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' People Ain't No Good , and now there's this: David Longstreth's Dirty Projectors reinterpreting Usher's heady, chart-glooping Climax. Still swinging high off 'Magellan by the sounds of it, he's joined on the track by the band's [...]
Love for the Dirty Projectors isn’t about to die anytime soon. Domino, 2012 7.8 / 10.0 After releasing arguably their best album, Bitte Orca , in 2009, Dirty Projectors had some big expectations to live up to on Swing Lo Magellan. Fortunately, the band didn’t [...]

Via: Pitchfork

Dirty Projectors Swing Lo Magellan Domino Records [2012] Fire Note Says: Dirty Projectors give us a beautiful summertime headphone record! Album Review: Is it possible for a record to be both avant garde and accessible at the same time,to be both simple and complex? If the record [...]
Featuring as one half of a limited 7" to have accompanied the majestic Swing Lo Magellan in certain UK indies, the reasoning as to why Buckle Up wasn't included on the finalised tracklisting for the metamorphic New Yorkers' sixth full-length is fairly patent. An acoustic blitz of sorts, it perhaps doesn't quite fit with the ' Dirty Projectors do lucid accessibility' feel to the LP although as such it's a totally perfect B-side in every essence: peripheral, yet explanatory of a particular temporal method. Practically over before it's properly begun, Longstreth muses on all [...]
Idiosyncratic as they ever were, Dirty Projectors return with the darkly joyous Swing Lo Magellan.
There are plenty of choices for purchasing digital music – iTunes, Amazon MP3, 7digital, etc. – but only one online retailer, eMusic, offered a subscription plan with customers paying a monthly fee for cash credit (formerly track download credits) to purchase music from their extensive library of artists. Now, some independent music labels [...]

Dirty Projectors frontman, and indeed the centre of their sprawling invention, David Longstreth was holed up in a house in New York for twelve months writing songs for the group’s new album. He ended up with 70. The intermittent visits from his bandmates were all about whittling down the material, rehearsing the songs, and finally arriving at the twelve tracks that make up the glorious Swing Lo Magellan . Longstreth has said this is “an album of songs, an album of songwriting”, and indeed, moments like Gun Has No Trigger are Dirty [...]

@slamstorky for this find. Dirty Projectors have a new song, "Gun Has No Trigger." It's off their forthcoming LP which will be out soon I hear. Haven't really formed an opinion yet but it is interesting. I guess the question that comes to mind is who's doing the next James Bond soundtrack?

We end the rather fruitful month of March with a new offering from the Dirty Projectors. Encapsulating an almost 'alternative' James Bond theme vibe, the band supposedly have a new album on the spring horizon through Domino. -James Godwin, March 31st, 2012 Filed under: Music Tagged: Dirty Projectors , Domino , Gun Has No Trigger

While Domino records didn't go irreparably off track, but where they once were the pinacle of cool indie, they started getting a little wanky with the electro dance bands a few years back. I guess you can't fault them for correctly judging which way the wind blows - they are a business after all. On the other hand, when you've forged your place as one of the reliable sources of good music and then you change... well.... what can be said about that? It looks like they are trying to correct their path recently though - which has [...]
