2013 certainly seems to be a year chock-full of eagerly awaited album releases with Daft Punk releasing Random Access Memories in May and Disclosure's debut album, Settle , coming in June. Before these two, we're treated to the release of Major Lazer's second album, Free the Universe . Free the Universe is the first album from Major Lazer since Switch left the group for "creative differences". Since then, Diplo has fully [...]

Here I am, left to go last once again with my favorite songs of the year. I feel as though I listened to more in 2012 than in any other year, and my musical experience was all the better for it. More music means more candidates, which admittedly makes lists like this one tougher. But [...]

The conclusion of Ca Va Cool's best albums of 2012 picks up where the first half left off , featuring old favourites and brave new sounds side by side: indie pop sits next to a "post-internet" patchwork sound; thematically-advancing hip-hop sidles up to our beloved indie rock. Without further ado, here are our writers ten favourite albums of the past year. Photograph by Kristin Lidell 10. Jens Lekman – I Know What Love Isn't How could anybody break up with Jens [...]

Welcome to the fifth consecutive Best Albums of the Year countdown here at Hidden Track. Hopefully, you know by now that we pride ourselves on covering music that spans any genre, any age, any geography, and any instrumental makeup. To us, good music is good music. Period. So, you can rest assured of the one thing that will always make our list a cut above the rest: we consider everything. Our submissions include all styles of music from bluegrass to jazz, jam to indie, electronica to rap, as [...]
2012...what a year of music. We got new releases from favorites such as Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear and heard new favorites in Father John Misty, Nude Beach, Tanlines, and more. Last year Earbuddy celebrated one year of existence with the best 50 albums of 2011 . However, we've grown since [...]

And here are the final 5. 5. Spiritualized - Sweet Heart Sweet Light Amazing that after all this time and so many album J. Spaceman can still make as excellent and touching an album as this one. The guy doesn't even really do much different, he just does it really, really well. 4. Julia Holter - Ekstasis I've been a fan of Holter since Live Tapes , but on [...]
We debated, we disagreed, we came up with our collective best 50 albums of 2012.

Over the course of this past year, we've upped the impetus placed upon live happenings and more significantly on those situated in and around London: nights on end spent out and about have become increasingly exhausting, as we strive to conjure an increasingly exhaustive coverage. Consequently we can only hope these are wearying steps in the right direction as, at least from a subjective perspective, witnessing your revered artists recite their most estimable pieces – in full as did some of the below, or otherwise – is a substantial chunk of what it's all about. Here we've more or less [...]

You've doubtless already made up your mind on what were, subjectively (though this may perhaps be mistaken for a narcissistic objectively as is below), the records to have ultimately defined the year that was 2012. Personally, I wouldn't deem it to have been the best of years and though not the worst of years either, the dispersion of opinion on the top ones, twos, and various other fews across the board appears to reflect this. My maths is a little haphazard at the best of times – read on and you'll discover more on that – but the [...]
With all of the hype pointed in the direction for Dirty Projectors and Animal Collective in 2009 for their respective albums, Bitte Orca and Merriweather Post Pavilion, you would have thought that 2012 would have seen as much hype and insane hyperbole. But it wasn't like that at all. [...]
Yesterday, we brought you our first 50 picks of the year's best songs . And today, we're wrapping up perhaps the most difficult list we have had to create. There are have been so many great singles, non-album tracks, loosies, leftovers, etc... in the past 12 months. But still, we dug through our posts and iTunes libraries to compile what we believe are the best tracks to drop this year. You will find plenty of Potholes favorites—from Kendrick Lamar to TNGHT to BADBADNOTGOOD —populating our choices along with a few artists that might surprise you. [...]
Our year end lists are wrapping up at this point, but we wouldn't be a legitimate music site without a list of the top songs from 2012. Personally, I feel like this list is a thousand times more difficult to compose than an albums list because we're dealing with close to 400-500 songs in the running. It's been a long process trying to narrow that iTunes playlist down to 100, and I know some incredible tunes from this year are missing, but we hope you enjoy. Ladies and gentlemen, follow the jump for the ATH version of top 2012 songs. [...]
Here it is. I know you'll hate it; I know you'll disagree, but that's not the point in making an arbitrary list. We here at ATH worked really hard to fit in the tastes of the four of us, and when we decided upon our Top 50, it really boied down to simple math. What albums did we love when they came out? Do we still enjoy spinning those records months later? If they're in the Top 50, then the asnwer is probably yes. I mean, our Top 2 records came out in January, and still play a vital part [...]
Our year end coverage begins with the three chiefs over at the ATH offices reveling in what was an incredible year in Austin, musically speaking. Tons of rad bands blew us away with their live sets, and, well, there were just tons of bands. I think we did more show coverage this year than in previous years, but as always, the great thing about our site is diversity. We're also linking back to our full reviews and photos of some of these nights, so you can get more of a feel of our thoughts, not to mention, checking out Brian's [...]

Love for the Dirty Projectors isn’t about to die anytime soon. Domino, 2012 7.8 / 10.0 After releasing arguably their best album, Bitte Orca , in 2009, Dirty Projectors had some big expectations to live up to on Swing Lo Magellan. Fortunately, the band didn’t [...]
Dirty Projectors have announced the release of a new EP, About To Die, following their just released (and adored) album, Swing Lo Magellan. The new EP arrives November 6th on 12-inch vinyl and in digital formats and includes the Magellan single, “About To Die”, with three new songs. Check out the track list [...]
