With an alluring walking guitar part, and steady stream of hand claps driving it, "Dance For You," from the Dirty Projectors upcoming LP Swing Lo Magellan , is great good-mood music. A relaxed attitude and warm vocals keep the song inviting before a dramatic musical turn breaks it all up halfway through the song. Compiling a "best of anything" list is such a subjective effort. It's human nature to want to compare things, rank and file them, and then argue relentlessly over the findings, defending a position vehemently as you try to convince your friend why one single from your favorite band is better than some other single from their favorite band. You Against The Larger World won't be appearing on Dirty Projectors' new upcoming album Swing Lo Magellan , however they did feel compelled to give it the light of day. Released as part of Record Store Day, it is a self-confessed demo with the band tweeting yesterday "i wrote a ton of songs when we were upstate last year. here's one that didn't go further than the demo..." . Dirty Projectors' 2009 album Bitte Orca was touted by many as the record of the year, its left-of-centre experimentation enthralling almost all who heard it. They are scheduled to release a new LP this year and with their label, Domino, uploading Gun Has No Trigger to its Soundcloud page, you can only assume that this is its first airing. Compared to what Dirty Projectors have released in the past this is almost a pop song, with a soulful vocal and unfussy drums. No word yet on any album details, so for now, [...]

A new track from Dirty Projectors' still yet to be named new studio album (supposedly due out sometime in the spring) premiered about an hour ago. I do love 20092s Bitte Orca quite a bit, but after a few listens of this new song, I'm still undecided about it. It's elicited sort of a non-reaction from me at the moment. What do you folks think?
Looking over the list of albums slated for release in the new few months, it’s hard not to get overly giddy - 2012 is going to be a great year for music. Several bands that made names for themselves with wildly inventive and successful debuts are putting forth their sophomore efforts this year. The all-important follow-up album can be tricky, though, especially when an artist has made such a unique statement with their debut - I'm definitely eager to hear how these musicians have adapted their sound. We always thought that San Francisco's Painted Palms were destined for great things, and in the span of six months (since their debut freebie Canopy EP) they've signed to Secretly Canadian and are planning a remastered release of Canopy and undoubtedly a debut LP somewhere in the not too distant future.
