Ben Talmi wants to fuck with your ears. He does not want you to know that his instrument collection is limited, or that his recordings rarely extend beyond his bedroom. In an age where popular music is bursting with superfluous production it is hard to blame him. Talmi recorded his debut EP, For the Dreamers, [...]

Lollapalooza is back and bigger than ever with an eclectic set of headliners that ranges from the post-Madonna, dancehall pop of Lady Gaga to reunited Seattle grungers Soundgarden to the unbridled anthems of indie rock saviors Arcade Fire . But of course, you probably are familiar with those groups. So, we decided on keying you in on some of our favorites who play the other eight hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Get ready, Chicago. Here's your Loud Loop Press Lollapalooza 2010 preview... [...]
Following the dark overtones of 2008's "Rising Down," The Legendary Roots Crew have returned with "How I Got Over," a record that reexamines the bleak state of our culture, this time striving to find a glimmer of hope amongst the darkness.

Even with many acts still to be revealed, the lineup for Scottish festival T in the Park is looking pretty impressive. From 9th to 11th July, 2010, thousands of punters will descend upon a disused airfield in Balado, Kinross-shire for a weekend of camping, shopping, carnival attractions and music across 7 stages. Friday night see's live favourite Muse headline the main stage, which will also be graced by Paloma Faith , Faithless and other artists yet to be announced. Rather disappointingly, the Radio 1/NME Stage will be [...]

Surely I don't need to explain to you what Glastonbury is - it's simply LEGENDARY. Even as an American (though, admittedly, an Anglophile), every year I drool over the lineup, despair at not being able to attend and then scour the internet for pictures and videos when it's over. Each summer, the enormous site at Worthy Farm (about a mile and a half in diameter) turns into a mini-city for the largest greenfield festival in the world. Since the first Glasto was held 40 years ago in 1970, the festival has come to be known for its truly amazing lineup, [...]

Believe it or not, the beloved summer season is just around the corner. This usually means a lot to most people. For music and art lovers, it's a significant time to embrace such wonderful mediums, and this year's Latitude Festival is looking to be loveable. Now is a good time to start scrutinizing that budget of yours. Those pennies you save will indeed be worth the oozing joy you'll feel July 15-18 at Henham Park. Having entered its fifth season, the Latitude Festival sure knows how to pack a mighty punch. If [...]

Yeah, I know...it's March. Presidents Day has passed and McDonalds is already selling Shamrock Shakes...a little late for the Best of 2009, but here we are. I never claimed to be one for timeliness, especially of late. For simplicity sake, the numbers associated with this list are just arbitrary...it's pretty hard to rank things objectively, but the following is what I liked best about the shitty year that was 2009: 1. Dananananakroyd - Hey Everyone! Cheeky band name aside, Hey Everyone! is an [...]

The scene at the Ace Hotel was pretty rowdy on Saturday night, as Opening Ceremony threw a party to celebrate opening a bizarre and tiny store in the chain hotel's lobby. Further research under... Some things are just perfect. If you're a fan of indie music, then the 2010 lineup for the Sasquatch! Music Festival probably deserves this classification. After all, basically everyone who's anyone from the genre will be appearing at the pristine Gorge Amphitheatre this Memorial Day Weekend (May 29-31). For one, joining the previously announced Pavement as the 2010 headliners will be My Morning Jacket and Massive Attack, both of which will likely be making their 2010 summer festival debut at Sasquatch. Other heavyweights confirmed to take part include Ween, Vampire Weekend, LCD Soundsystem, Band of Horses, [...]

Oh hell yes. Two tracks, both with much peppy back-and-forth between Dave Longstreth and his femmebot cohorts, with a bit more Talking Heads whimsy than usual, and who can be mad at that. Or, as t... Continue reading "Download Dirty Projectors' "Ascending Melody" Seven-Inch, For Free, Right Now" >

Et voila, the top 10 albums that graced these here stereos this year, a mere week behind planned schedule. Happily spanning my preferred genres more widely than last year and with some old favourites rubbing shoulders with some new folks, 2009 was a diverse, healthy year for good music releases. 10 [...]
Creating a Top 50 Albums list is never easy. You have to battle with what you think the world believes, and what you truly believe in your heart, to be solid jams. We have even more trouble because we have to three writers, all who have different ideas, and we have to make those ideas fit into a neat box. Well, we got it done, and honestly, our criteria was based on two things: how great we thought the album was, artistically speaking, and how long we listened to it without getting bored. That's it. It's fool proof; you might [...]
The conclusion of Ca Va Cool's countdown of the 20 Best Albums of 2009 featuring Grizzly Bear, Dirty Projectors, Japandroids, and more.

Our finest 20 records of the year are the ones that are closest to our collective hearts from a San Francisco band's debut to a Kosmische pile-up between Tangerine Dream, Sunno))) and proggy ambient techno to the return of some French Anglophiles, to our highest charting Irish albums, a band on their 13th release, an icy Swedish enigma and a slew of Brooklyn based bands. Albums of 2009: 75-51 | 50-41 | 40-31 | 30-21 | 20-1 [...]

This Christmas week we are counting down our top 50 albums of 2009 taken from the personal lists of 35 of the State writers and photographers. No doubt, there will be tears, spilled milk, outcry, acceptance and surprises along the way. We hope you find something you overlooked in the course of the year. Our 40 to 31 list sees the first and last appearance of a compilation, a revered indie rapper, an experimental English shape-shifting popster, Africa's best Western-influenced band, an R&B legend, a "bored" US scuzzy-rocker and a forward-looking retro dance album. Albums of 2009: [...]
