![[Listen] Dirty Projectors: "The Socialites" (AlunaGeorge Remix)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4947354_lg.jpg)

DIRTY PROJECTORS aren’t the first name that come to mind when you think of remixes but their new take on Phoenix ’s ‘Entertainment’ brings a chilled, fresh mood to the electro-rock original. The remix kicks off with warped vocals, stunted percussion and handclaps to keep it all together. The track follows a slower tempo, certainly less chipper than the original, which releases the inner sadness of the song: “I’d rather be alone.” The vocals of Phoenix front man Thomas Mars remain the centrepiece and [...]

In the weeks leading up to Phoenix dropping their long-awaited fifth album Bankrupt! , a slew of artists were remixing their songs, primarily "Entertainment" , most recently with Grizzly Bear 's take on the track for Record Store Day . Today it's the turn of Dirty Projectors , twisting the song into a skewered, jittery, hand-clap-filled, vocal-muffling brute of a track. Bankrupt! , which is out [...]

It's always good news when there's new music from Dirty Projectors involved. Luckily for us, that means there's good news today, because the band have just released a new song! Well, it's not really new - "There's A Fire" is actually the b-side to the limited run of "Offspring Are Blank" 73s pressed for the band's 2013 January 2013 show at Carnegie Hall. There were only 250 hand-numbered copies made, and if you're itching to get one, there are still a few available from the Domino website . Additionally, the band have announced [...]

Apart from those few Folk blogs you follow, can you think of many sites and blogs who didn't have Usher 's stunning "Climax" on their year-end list of the best songs of 2012? Nor can I, we certainly did, we know what's up. Populating the other big year-end list of albums was Dirty Projectors 's latest masterpiece Swing Lo Magellan , so it's quite appropriate that when the band were on tour down under they visited Triple J's radio station [...]

With a sound that has been compared to the likes of Grimes (the go-to-girl for convenient comparisons du jour ) and Dirty Projectors (ditto) the abstract sound collages by Empress Of (aka Lorely Rodriguez) is bound to confuse listeners, as much as it does the maker herself! In a musical climate in which everything is filtered and ground down into a palatable, ready-made meal, a little bit of confusion is a welcome relief! Originally from Los Angeles, but now calling Brooklyn home, Rodriguez [...]

Two days and two new videos from Dirty Projectors . It must be Christmas. Yesterday we were gifted the landfill-set, biohazard suit-wearing clip for "Offspring Are Blank" , and today it's the effortless gorgeous "Swing Lo Magellan" featuring singer David Longstreth walking from a desert scene into the suburbs down an empty street playing the guitar. Both tracks are taken from the band's sublime new album Swing Lo Magellan , which just made [...]

Win our top 31 albums of 2012 ! Read the original review Retreating from the mass populous into the woods, Dirty Projectors accumulated a sum of 40 songs, choosing a dozen that touch on love, anxiety, passion, and the increasingly changing world around us. Analyzing the state of the economy in " Gun Has No Trigger " , the tragic dystopian love story of "Just From Chevron" , and the heartbreaking beauty of the lullaby title track, Swing Lo Magellen [...]
A wonderfully moving ballad from Dirty Projectors, which floats upon a bed of fantastic string sections. I've received quite a few comments saying I was a little unforgiving when it comes to the band's last album ; however, I don't see myself coming around on the LP anytime soon. Such is life. What's I'm happy about is this particular track streaming via the YouTube embed above is appealing to me much more. It showcases a certain sonic clarity and strange beauty that stuns me in a way words cannot explain. While the track does suffer from the [...]

If it's not already enough that Dirty Projectors have released one of the best albums of the year with Swing Lo Magellan , they've now gone and announced details of a brand new four-track EP About To Die . They've also extended their world tour, so that's 15 pieces of good news in one tiny wee bite. The first cut from the EP (released on November 5th), the title-track and Swing Lo attendee "About To Die" can [...]

If you're into soulful-dub-skewed beats and the gorgeous vocals of Dirty Projectors ' Amber Coffman then you're probably already in love with Major Lazer 's latest track "Get Free" , but if you need a refresher here's the video for it. It's a snapshot of Jamaican life after dark, swimming holes during the day, Diplo, and their favourite sports (football, boxing, surfing, and grinding on a D). "Get Free" is taken from Major Lazer 's new album Major Lazer Frees [...]

Woah. DIRTY PROJECTORS are one of those bands that you’re either going to think, “shit, they’re so good…and I can understand why”. Or you’re going to think ‘shit, this is weird, I don’t understand and it confuses me’. Thankfully for me (and this review for that matter), it’s the former. The band has just released a brand new spanker on their SOUNDCLOUD . Entitled ‘Buckle Up’, it’s 1 minute and 46 seconds of raucous, [...]
![[Listen] The Hood Internet: "Grown Up Has No Trigger" (Dirty Projectors x Danny Brown)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4410122_lg.jpg)
Fresh off their seventh full-length, Swing Lo Magellan , Brooklyn's Dirty Projectors seem to keep us on our feet with an ongoing North American tour - and wait - a new single! "Buckle Up" , a limited edition 73, is the six-piece's rawest effort to date: clocking at just under two minutes, it's the band's most lo-fi attempt. The track, not in typical Dirty Projectors -style, has lead singer/guitarist Dave Longstreth 's vocals and guitar work [...]
![[Listen] Blonds: "Time" + Dirty Projectors Cover](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4405246_lg.jpg)

I often wonder why bands regularly take well over three years to release an album. I’m shocked that it takes musicians several years to make shit like this . But after one listen of Swing Lo Magellan , I immediately understood why it’s taken over three years to follow up the wonderful Bitte Orca , because this is the some of the most elaborate and complex and beautiful music I’ve ever heard. On the other hand, Swing Lo Magellan is [...]
![[mp3] Lushlife // She’s a Buddhist, I’m a Cubist (Remix)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4382002_lg.jpg)
Philadelphia rapper/producer Lushlife delivered one of my favorite mixtapes of 2011. His No More Golden Days tape featured standout tracks such as "Adult Goth," which featured Das Racist/Greedhead head honcho Heems, and "Motivation," which borrowed one of the best Clams Casino beats of 2011 (not counting the completely righteous beat from A$AP Rocky's "Palace," which still resides in my most played iTunes list this year). The clear standout from the tape, however, was "She's A Buddhist, I'm A Cubist." The original is a stellar, old-school cut that features a great guest verse from Memphis rapper Cities Aviv in [...]
Dirty Projectors drop another track from their forthcoming LP, Swing Lo Magellan . This track, and the previous one to be released , are taking the Projectors' sound in a noticeably sweeter, poppier direction. While it's nowhere near as hard-hitting as their earlier material, there's something sneaky about how these tracks have quietly seeped into my subconscious. Tattooing themselves in my musical memory without being completely aware, because I find myself humming their melodies long after I've decided to myself, "yeah, this is alright." I guess I need to listen to my subconscious more often. This [...]
![[Listen] Dirty Projectors: "Dance For You"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4331650_lg.jpg)
