![[mp3] Lushlife // She’s a Buddhist, I’m a Cubist (Remix)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4382002_lg.jpg)
Philadelphia rapper/producer Lushlife delivered one of my favorite mixtapes of 2011. His No More Golden Days tape featured standout tracks such as "Adult Goth," which featured Das Racist/Greedhead head honcho Heems, and "Motivation," which borrowed one of the best Clams Casino beats of 2011 (not counting the completely righteous beat from A$AP Rocky's "Palace," which still resides in my most played iTunes list this year). The clear standout from the tape, however, was "She's A Buddhist, I'm A Cubist." The original is a stellar, old-school cut that features a great guest verse from Memphis rapper Cities Aviv in [...]

The long time knock on the Dirty Projectors before the release of the incredibly inventive but palatable Bitte Orca was that Longstreth was just too challenging. No one ever doubted his musical talents or virtuosity, but whether his music was a victim of his own genius was the question. And Bitte Orca seemed to answer that very question by blending Longstreth’s musical nerdyness with hooks that half of Brooklyn was whistling and R&B rhythms that made his artistic quirks feel almost cool. You might think that means that Longstreth and the sirens compromised something for the [...]

Irregardless of all the elation innately located within each and every opus emitted from the erudite David Longstreth et al. – however conscientiously subversive – it is one subtly tarnished by a patina of rather depressive reality. For his Dirty Projectors , despite being just about the finest baroque pop alt.orchestra to contemporarily be entangled in our ethernet cables and whatnot, are markedly a fundamental of noughties counterculture when they really – albeit in some fictitious and ATP-curated synchronous universe – should surely be revered as the primary authors of mainstream culture; venerated as veritably impeccable composers of Handelian [...]
Dirty Projectors stopped in KEXP's studio for a live session yesterday, a set that featured two previously unheard tracks from the forthcoming Swing Lo Magellan . Head to Fake Walls to hear rips of the tracks. "Offspring Are Blank" is a building rock arrangement featuring signature Dirty Pros harmonies and "The Socialites" is an understated, Coffman-led shuffle. You can hear the whole performance by heading to KEXP's archive page , selecting June 21 and the 9:00 AM Variety Mix show. The performance happens at about 9:40.

David Longstreth [...]
"There is an answer, I haven't found it / But I will keep dancing 'til I do." Dirty Projectors are just under a month away from releasing Swing Lo Magellan , and the record's second advance track introduces a lot of its themes - both lyrically (creative expression in the face of spiritual uncertainty) and musically (orchestral composition, handclaps, intertwining guitar solos) - while managing to be unassuming and pretty. Dirty Projectors are up to a lot but make it feel breezy, turning in a proper song from an album that is shaping [...]

I'm not gonna lie, Dirty Projectors are beginning to excite the hell out of these tiny little clown pants I'm wearing as pajamas. This new track "Dance For You" now makes it two new songs from their upcoming album Swing Lo Magellan (and one that didn't make the cut "You Against The Larger World" ), after "Gun Has No Trigger" , and that's twice that these tiny wee clown pants have ended up being [...]

If you see the Dirty Projectors live, you realize that there are few bands that are tighter - few bands that are so obviously the result of such an inordinate amount of practice. There would be no other way to pull off the strange tempo switches, the patented hocketting and the complex arrangements. In short, this is a band about precision and, for lack of a better word, "chops." "You Against The Larger World" is a piece of flotsam that was tossed overboard during the making of upcoming album, Swing Lo Magellan , and it offers a dressed-down peek [...]

You Against The Larger World won't be appearing on Dirty Projectors' new upcoming album Swing Lo Magellan , however they did feel compelled to give it the light of day. Released as part of Record Store Day, it is a self-confessed demo with the band tweeting yesterday "i wrote a ton of songs when we were upstate last year. here's one that didn't go further than the demo..." . Check out what's going on with Record Store Day .
Listen to "You Against The Larger World" , a new song by Dirty Projectors which will be released on Record Store Day . Dirty Projectors have a new album out July 10, "Swing Lo Magellan" , via Domino Records . We already had our first taste of that record thanks to the great "Gun Has No Trigger" , but now Dirty Projectors have decided to wet our appetites with a song that didn't make the album. [...]
Dirty Projectors' feverishly anticipated new album Swing Lo Magellan is imminent, and we've already slavered over the first single " Gun Has No Trigger ." The album is 12 songs long, but the band recorded more than 40 demos. One of the tracks that didn't make the cut was "You Against The Larger World," which only exists in the form of a demo, with frontman Dave Longstreth playing it solo-acoustic. It still sounds pretty great, and it's part of a Record Store Day flexi-disc from the Smuggler's Way zine. Listen to it [...]
Major Lazer’s been hyping their new single “Get Free” via twitter for some time now, and now the full song’s here for you to sample. It’s likely Diplo and co.’s most slow-burning track to date, but that doesn’t mean their famously crazy beats have gone anywhere – in fact, thoughtful Major Lazer might have yielded one of their best offerings so far. On “Get Free,” an classic reggae bass pulse gets buried underwater and under cutting synth planes, arpeggiating keyboard riffs, and, most strikingly, Dirty Projector Amber Coffman’s cut up, layered, sometimes distorted, [...]
Last month Major Lazer previewed "Get Free," a track for which Diplo recruited Dirty Projectors siren Amber Coffman. Well now, it's out today, and downloadable at majorlazergetfree.com for the price of an email. It's good! There's a video, too, featuring Major Lazer's cartoon dancehall commando sitting on a pile of dinosaur bones and staring off meaningfully into the sunrise, thinking about Amber's inspirational lyrics and swept up in the track's wistful melancholy. Coffman's part is transcribed, so you too can feel Major Lazer's anti-government yearning for liberation. Use caution when singing along at home, though; in [...]
