Nat Baldwin is still the bassist for prolific indie rock band Dirty Projectors. But he also plays and records his own brand of experimental minimalist indie rock. His stripped down instrumentals accent his ability to multitask between different instruments, not just the bass. As a matter of fact, he becomes orchestral in a minimalist state. [...]

The Forms have a new EP called Derealization . As we previously reported , the EP features remixes made with some of the bands' friends, including: Matt Berninger of The National , Craig Wedren of Shudder To Think , Nat Baldwin of Dirty Projectors , Daniel Hart of St. Vincent 's band, and Andrew Thiboldeaux of Pattern is Movement . Threespheres and Ernest Jenning will be releasing the EP on February 15th along with a repressing of [...]
Ah, the Extended Player, meatier than the single, more concise than the full-length. Whether as a stop-gap between albums, a medium for collaboration, or as an introductory work, the EP remains relevant, perhaps all the more with an increasingly ADHD-inflicted generation of music listeners. Whatever it is, we love them too, so here are some of our favorites. Bart & Friends - Make You Blush (Lost and Lonesome) A set of unexpected new material from twee-pop stalwart Bart Cummings (Cat’s Miaow, the Shapiros), [...]

Vocalist/keyboardist Alex Tween and multi-instrumentalist Matt Walsh a/k/a The Forms have a new EP called Derealization . The project was spawned after the duo spent an afternoon listening to the vinyl of their self-titled album at different speeds. The decision was made on the spot to do a "remix" album. Once they started working on it, Tween and Walsh teamed up with a bunch of their friends to completely reconceptualized a number of their older songs from the bottom up. Derealization was recorded at Walsh’s studio in Ridgewood with the help of [...]

[MP3] Rockapella - A-Punk One of the funniest/weirdest/nostalgic press releases plopped into my inbox the other afternoon. The email announced that legendary musical group Rockapella were back in action with a new LP titled Bang . Holy hell, I just about lost it while reading all the information unable to shake the sounds of the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? theme song and that Folgers commercial from forever ago. Their new album, for reasons unbeknownst to [...]
![[new] Dirty Projectors – As I Went Out One Morning (Bob Dylan Cover)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2853211_lg.jpg)
Dirty Projectors covered Bob Dylan's "As I Went Out One Morning" for the expanded edition of their much acclaimed 2009 album, Bitte Orca . The expanded edition was released officially today, and it's already out there. Dirty Projectors put their charm on the song, added their signature vocal harmonies in a triumphant fashion. They succeed in their ability to stay true enough to the original, while also making their mark on it. It's a damn good cover. You can stream their cover of "As I Went Out One Morning" below: [mp3]: [...]

Both albums by Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band were savaged in Pitchfork reviews . Listening to Where the Messengers Meet , the latest release from this Seattle band, I can't say that the latest review (and a lowly 3.3 rating) is deserved. Sure, it's an overwrought sound in stretches and the album overall is uneven but there are high points, including the songs At Night, Messengers and Hurrah . The band, which may appeal to fans of Grizzly Bear or Dirty Projectors , plays the Empty Bottle [...]

By Alex Schaaf Mount Wittenberg Orca is the newest release from Dirty Projectors , following their 2009 masterpiece, Bitte Orca . I would be hard pressed to call it a sequel, however. This EP, recorded alongside the equally masterful Björk , is rather a step to the side, highlighting one specific aspect of the DPs sound (the light, acoustic vocal interplay) rather than presenting an exhaustive account of everything the group is capable of, a feat which Bitte Orca accomplished nicely. [...]

Tal como se prometió, se comenzó a hacer disponible la descarga de la versión digital desde la web oficial del proyecto . Last week we told you about the Björk and Dirty Projectors' collaboration record Mount Wittenberg Orca , all proceeds of which benefit National Geographic Society's efforts to create internationally protected marine areas. The album is available here today. Stream the album's final track "All We Are" below, which features the crooning vocals of Björk and Dave Longstreth serenading one and another. It's good stuff. Enjoy. [ via ] [ via ] Mount Wittenberg Orca tracklisting: 1. “Ocean” [...]
