It's summer in New York City! While some music consumers are traveling to faraway places, we happily/jealously sit back and relax on our short little ferry ride over to Governors Island. Located in the East River between Queens and Manhattan, Governors Ball is happening this weekend. The music is sure to be a draw, but don't overlook the art that will be displayed throughout the fields. Along with grand-scale yard games and silent disco, we hope we remember to catch some sets. There will be free water refill stations and plenty of people watching opportunities as you [...]
Despite a day full of rain and complications, Sasquatch! 2013 ended on a high note.
Como habitual, por cá fica o resumo do que de mais importante se passou na minha página alternativa do Facebook. A semana musical abriu com os saudosos The National com o tema "So Far Around the Bend", tema presente na compilação 'Dark Was the Night' (ver texto), seguido do fabuloso "Take My Pain Away" de Moullinex, retirado do álbum 'Flora', saído no ano passado. Apesar do mau tempo que
About 200 of you guys participated in our annual readers poll, and the results were tight. You had the chance to vote for 5 albums, and I gave each album a point value, decreasing with each vote. So first place got 5 points, second place got 4, etc... The race was very close between Frank Ocean & Tame Impala, but in the end, Frank Ocean took home the Orange gold. All in all, the taste of you faithful bunch alligns quite well with mine, minus Mumford & Sons. In total, 252!! albums were voted for, which is insane. [...]

2012 will be forever remembered as the year of the gun. Violence is escalating, tempers are flaring and not matter what side of the aisle you stand on, you have to agree something needs to be done. As a resident of Colorado, we have seen firsthand from Columbine to the Aurora movie shootings that our society is declining. Our moral compass is lost and we need to cling to our faith, love or whatever you put your stock in and hold your family/friends tight. Colorado also benefited from two of the biggest things to hit our area [...]
We debated, we disagreed, we came up with our collective best 50 albums of 2012.

(photo by cubagallery ) We're quickly approaching the end of 2012 and/or the world depending on your interpretation of Mayan prophecy, and that can only mean it's time to reflect on the best albums of the year. For me, one record stood head and shoulders above the rest in 2012, so album of the year was an easy decision, but there was much deliberation for the other 24 positions (plus, honorable mentions). This was one of the most diverse years of music in recent memory, with pop, guitar-oriented rock, folk music, indie-pop and electronica all being represented [...]

(photo by cubagallery ) These are 50 tracks that delighted, inspired and fascinated us in 2012 and that we think are worthy of remembering long after the year is over. We present them here in highly unscientific ordered list form, with Matt's songs marked with a "-MG" and my choices with a "-TJ" next to them. To better spread the love, we've stuck with the one song per artist rule. Click here to download all the tracks in a zip and subscribe to our Spotify Playlist to stream them all. Enjoy y'all! [...]
Our year end lists are wrapping up at this point, but we wouldn't be a legitimate music site without a list of the top songs from 2012. Personally, I feel like this list is a thousand times more difficult to compose than an albums list because we're dealing with close to 400-500 songs in the running. It's been a long process trying to narrow that iTunes playlist down to 100, and I know some incredible tunes from this year are missing, but we hope you enjoy. Ladies and gentlemen, follow the jump for the ATH version of top 2012 songs. [...]
Our year end coverage begins with the three chiefs over at the ATH offices reveling in what was an incredible year in Austin, musically speaking. Tons of rad bands blew us away with their live sets, and, well, there were just tons of bands. I think we did more show coverage this year than in previous years, but as always, the great thing about our site is diversity. We're also linking back to our full reviews and photos of some of these nights, so you can get more of a feel of our thoughts, not to mention, checking out Brian's [...]

Well it's pretty much been half a year in this new job and it feels like it's only been a fortnight. It's like Inception but for my grip on reality, within reality. The real world is moving at a normal pace but my grip on reality is kinda flimsy. Instead of sands through the hourglass it's more like sands through my hands. And July disappeared into the proverbial sink-hole of time. See, I'm not even sure that makes sense or if I've just embarrassed myself and am gradually slipping into premature dementia. I'm working longer hours, more days, and [...]

I think sometimes we're in a rush. I think sometimes we focus too much on trying to be first or the novelty of something and we lose focus on quality in music or otherwise. I think we need to slow down and look around and enjoy what's before us. That's why this post features an old favorite, Sam Cooke's Bring It On Home To Me , instead of something new as I summarize where I fall on some of the currently hyped music. This post has it origins in part because I agree [...]
After a thin week for new albums during the July 4th holiday, things got back to normal last week with a hefty new batch of fresh releases from Dirty Projectors, Twin Shadow, Deleted Scenes, Digitalism, Summer Camp, Husky, Communist Daughter and more. Plus, after three decades, the post-punk/alt rock band Mission of Burma sound better [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Well, we have another short list of musicians to present to you this week after the onslaught of great stuff from June. This week's new releases might as well feature Dirty Projectors (shown above) with their new album Swing Lo Magellan. The reviews for this album have been great and will certainly be something I listen to this upcoming week. Digitalism appears on the ever-present DJ Kicks series. We focused in on these guys last year with I Love You, Dude. Asop Rock, aka Ian Matthias Bavitz , is out with Skelethon, his first album since 2007. Bavitz [...]

With summer finally coming into Seattle , your car/stereo/other music player is certainly in need of some fresh new music. One of this week's biggest releases is also one of the year's most anticipated: Swing Lo Magellan , the sixth studio album from Dirty Projectors . Dave Longstreth and company holed up in New York for a year to write the album, and the end result is definitely worth the wait. Our Music Director, Don Yates, says the album is full of "unusual musical textures, abrupt transitions, tricky polyrhythms and intricate yet gorgeous harmonies to flesh out [...]
After a week off for the 4 th , the new releases are back in full force! With two of the most anticipated albums of the summer, Twin Shadow and Dirty Projectors , arriving, it’s a already great - add the stark folk rock of Husky and Communist Daughter to the mix, and you have a week that'll be hard to beat. We fell in love with the groovy dance jams on Twin Shadow’s [...]
