Dirty Projectors is a 6-piece from Brooklyn and have been kicking it since '03. It's hard to put this band into one genre. Lots of vocal interplay and beautiful harmonies. I can't get enough. Here's the visual for their chill tune "Gun Has No Trigger".

Hace un par de semanas, la banda neoyorkina Dirty Projectors estrenó un cortometraje llamado Hi Custodian dirigido por David Longstreth , vocalista y guitarrista de la banda. Ahora presentan el video para su nuevo sencillo "About To Die", el cual es parte de un EP del mismo nombre que saldrá el próximo 6 de noviembre a través de la disquera Domino . The video for Dirty Projectors ' About To Die features extracts from the band's short film Hi Custodian - I just love those scenes in that truck, so silly actually. Watch the full film here in case you haven't, it gives you a good overview of the band's latest record Swing Lo Magellan as well. The band release the song on a 12" via Domino in November, which features three new songs too.

We didn't get to see too many mind-boggling short-form videos this week, but we did get one long one in which one of our greatest, most ambitious indie bands takes its packed-to-bursting, unapologetically pretentious musical maximalism to the screen, staying bizarre and compelling throughout. Dirty Projectors have a new 20-minute short film, a project called Hi Custodian that was apparently influenced by short films such as Kanye West's Runaway and Prince's Purple Rain . Written by David Longstreth, the band's frontman, the short film was shot in SoCal last April. Each band member plays a certain role, the entirety of which encapsulates " a surreal narrative about spiritual death and rebirth". Short-shorted hip kids stood anxiously in line outside New York City's Landmark Sunshine Theater, humming the asymmetrical melodies of the Dirty Projectors . They were there to see the band's puppet master Dave Longstreth and the premiere of his first short film, "Hi Custodian" -- a bizarre musical flick that swims through surreal scenes about death in front of a California backdrop.

While some of us were watching the MTV VMAs, others were attending the premiere of Dirty Projectors ' short film, Hi Custodian. Directed by David Longstreth, it featured Longstreth himself, as well as Amber Coffman, Haley Dekle, Nat Baldwin, and Mike Johnson of Dirty Projectors. The film, which was inspired by music films such as Kanye West's Runaway and Prince's Purple Rain , tells a story about death and rebirth while featuring recordings and alternate versions of new Dirty Projectors songs, as well as new and unreleased music from the Swing Lo Magellan album [...]
