If you've never been to the Dolphin Tavern - the new South Broad drinkerie with a DJ-centric events calendar - tonight might be a good time to start. On tap is Jacques Renault , a DC-area post punk turned electrohead on the DFA Records roster. He's worked with the likes of The Hundred In The Hands and Chairlift, and has a few selections on Dolphin co-proprietor Dave P's RVNG International Records. Also on the bill is Les Professionnels , the three-piece Philly crew whose craft for classic club bangers may be as much of a winning [...]

If you know me personally i'm a huge sports fans, i've always wanted to bring design and music fans together with sports fans anyway I can. If I had a dream job it would be hopping around in-between all the major sports teams and redesigning uniforms and logos. Nike did a great job here BUT... there's a problem, a HUGE problem in my opinion, this doesn't seem like what a passionate design would design, i'm in love with the fabrics, Nike always nails that department out of the park. The issue is that everything is completely evolving from [...]

MasterCard's Priceless promotion staged events in interesting locations across the country for cardholders and one of these events hit right in our wheelhouse. Last night Umphrey's McGee guitarists Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss teamed up for an acoustic show at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium. More specifically the show took place at the Abbott Oceanarium - a pavilion featuring dolphins, sea otters, penguins and more mammals swimming around as the pair played in front of them. [Photo by tigersnewcaddie ] Brendan and Jake filled the [...]

Produced by Alex Firla , who worked with Phoenix on their first album, Exsonvaldes delivers some pretty well woven pieces influenced by The Cure, Kraftwerk or more recently Metronomy. There's definitely a Phoenix touch to the whole sound too, especially in the vocals... Give it a whirl and check out their "SEAHORSE" video shot by a world record holder apneist in the Red Sea, and shows monofin swimmers racing wild dolphins : Click here to view the embedded video. Portugal's João/Johnny (aka Mediafired , JCCG , and Sofa Pits ) returns with a new track from his Delphinidae -inspired project, The Exhalers . According to the artist, "Pearls and Shells" is "again a little narrative through the eyes of a dolphin and its relationships, in which basic emotions/affections are expressed in that fluffy, spontaneous, mammal way." It's hard to beat that description, as it's just so easy to imagine this winding, mercurial piece as a backing track (or cosmic conversation?) within the daily adventures of our four-lobed brained friends. The heavily effected tones of the Casio CTK-495 [...]
Two things are painfully obvious. 1. The whole Chad and Evelyn thing is the story for the week and will remain a story for weeks to come. And that story [...]

I did a lot of dumb things in ninth grade, but maybe the single dumbest thing - the one that makes me feel guilty and embarrassed every time I think about it - was when my friends and I blew a bunch of weed-smoke at my friend's dog during a party, then laughing at the high, terrified dog as he ran all around the basement. Well, some assholes in Switzerland have pushed this type of behavior to its logical extreme - killing two dolphins by giving them a heroin substitute. This happened during a rave at a zoo. I can't [...]
Two dolphins in Switzerland died after being fed synthetic heroin by ravers. That whole sentence, sadly, is true. The incident happened last November at the Connyland Aquarium in Lipperswil, Switzerland yet is only being brought to light now after the synthetic heroin was found to have been a factor in both dolphins' deaths. Activists were apparently on hand to protest the rave being held at an aquarium, which they say was cruelty to animals. The Connyland Aquarium said that the tanks were built strong enough to not harm the animals with the loud music. [...]

Chicago based Dolphins, no, not native to Lake Michigan but the two legged variety have an impressive sound and a new LP out. The four piece have a tropicalia, neon disco kind of vibe, with a down-to-earth no airs and graces attitude. The sound is very laid back with beautiful harmonies and an earthy richness which is nice to hear in a time when electro dominates most of the indie scene, and the [...]

Dolphins | Blackstone Ave. The ‘z’ pronunciation might already have been snapped up but there’s nothing stopping another marine animal-based band hooking up with our ears. This is pure escapist pop. The kind you’d purchase at a seaside pier if it came with a free portion of candy floss. Drenched in every available effect, ‘ Blackstone Ave .’ shows the Chicago band in cacophonous form. The song has more synth effects than milliseconds. Dolphins will have you sunbathing and sipping on a can of fizzy rubicon* in [...]

Dolphins released their self-titled debut album this week. The band has a dense and diverse sound that is as sunny and appealing as their promo photos. Johnny Paglino, Adam Offer and Mark Kuivila have been working on songs for years and now Dolphins are here for you to enjoy. Dolphins website says they are performing at Den Theatre on March 24th at 9pm. Dolphins by Dolphins
Let me to put this into context, Dolphins - CSO With A Drag Queen (mp3 go here)
From io9 : The normal pod of dolphins tends to tally at 16-20 — this statistic makes the sighting of this "mega-pod" of 2000 dolphins off the coast of Dana Point, California all the more special. Researchers speculate that the dolphins — who were hitting speeds of 25 miles per hour — were racing a whale-watching vessel for kicks.

I just stumbled upon VIRGINS , and I think you’ll be impressed with not only their music, but their very unique backstory. The duo, which consists of Saman Khoujinian and Gabriel Anderson, embarked on a “bike tour”, to record their first record, RGB . This basically had them strapping their instruments on their bikes, as they would play shows every night, and travel around the country during the day. It shows how much dedication these guys had of getting their music out there in a different environemnt. I have to say it must have to paid off, as [...]
