Back in the fall, we hinted that the venerable roots and Americana magazine, now webzine, No Depression would be hosting their own music festival this summer in Seattle, WA. Well, after months of waiting the folks at No Depression have finally revealed the details of their first ever festie that will take place at Marymoor Park in Redmond, just outside the Emerald City. The one-day event, which will take place on July 11, will feature the likes of Gillian Welch, Iron & Wine, Patterson [...]
Spend the Night is the fifth studio album and major label debut by The Donnas, released in 2002 on Atlantic Records. It was the band's first charting record on the Billboard Hot 200, peaking at #62, and features their most successful single, "Take It Off", which peaked at #19 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. By this album you can really hear them evolving from their "what if the Ramones were chicks" vibe into a really cohesive hard rock band. As for news about their next release, The Donnas announced on May 6 their newest project [...]

The summer concert season is definitely gearing up feminist style with the announcement of a bunch of tours in the past few days. Plus, Lilith Fair is returning in 2010, so you all can get excited for that and read on for the dates just announced by Tori Amos and the "Call Me Invincible" tour featuring Blondie , Pat Benatar and openers The Donnas. Greatest hits albums are an oddity. They used to be collections of hits from bands that have a substantial catalog with a number of hits. Sometime in the past decade or so, they became a way to make a quick buck. Acts that only had two or three albums would get a greatest hits collection somehow. Hearing that The Donnas were getting the greatest hits treatment made me a bit skeptical, but after reading up on the band, I came to the conclusion they might be actually deserving of the honor. The weird quirk of the collection is [...]

Southern California label Lookout Records is offering up a free sampler of MP3s over on Amazon called Be on the Lookout! Song: Doesn't Matter Artist: The Chosen Album: New World Comments: Here is a great mod punk anthem. I found this on a Spanish Mod site which seems to feature and inordinate amount of 7 inch Detour Records releases. Seeing how Mods Mayday 2009 is next weekend I thought this would be a great track to kick off the first Slave to Shuffle in a dogs age. Jimmy Morbid is still MIA (technical reasons). For the four of you still tuning in, here you go Song: Ghosts Artist: The Ettes Album: [...]
[Here's some afternoon viewing — two videos I really like ...] The video for Death Cab for Cutie's "Grapevine Fires" is even more of a tear-jerker than the song, but it tugs at all the right heartstrings. It's the work of Walter Robot (the team of multimedia artist Bill Barminski and writer Christopher Louie), and it captures the sense of loss that victims of the California wildfires must have felt. The song, off the album "Narrow Stairs," was inspired by frontman Ben Gibbard's personal encounter with the 2007 [...]

Lately I've had a few email and comment requests about some of the rare tunes of The Donnas that I posted about back in 2007. Being a huge fan of The Donnas I have tracked down and purchased as much of the rare stuff that I could find. The rare stuff being songs that the Donnas have recorded that have not appeared on their regular studio albums. Some are from compilation albums or soundtracks or even eps. Which brings me to some great news for Donnas fans. The Donnas have announced their latest project: a [...]

With New Years Eve nearly upon us, likely there'll be many a party starting, so here's a small flood of party, if not necessarily Party!, songs, which float my boat & might do the same for yours. There's (sorta) glam-rock from Hello, a cracker from Pink, who knocks out some rather good songs on occasion, the raucous(ish) Donnas, a Noel Coward cover, some great garage/punk from Japan, and well, just more really As I hinted, these mightn't all be good tunes to play at your typical party - what would be?. I spose mine would have to include [...]
Tilly And The Wall : Talkin' 'Bout A Revolution . Seriously. Nobody likes a big ol' sausage party, not even the ladies. So you can see why the girls of Tilly and the Wall were so psyched. According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2008 was the year of the rat, but in the world of indie music, it was the year of “Damn, who’s that?” Everywhere you looked, there was a hot indie band with a totally hot woman up front, and Uncensored Interview was there to document [...]

After a long hiatus during which she raised a family, multi-platinum recording artist Donna Lewis will finally return with her first proper studio album in a decade with the release of In The Pink on April 8, 2008. Featuring the first single " Shout ," Donna's eleven new tracks seem to pick up right where she left off. Her overly acute sense of pop sensibility remains firmly intact while simultaneously gravitating towards the newer sounds of bands such as Zero 7 and Hooverphonic . “I didn't plan on being [...]
We have all lived so long that we're now seeing The Donnas honoured with a career-spanning retrospective . Yes, apparently seven albums in so far and counting. Curiously, the plan is to re-record some of the old songs - which, given the compilation is going to be on their own label, suggests shades of Simply Red's scheme to create versions of their back catalogue which they own.

If you're familiar with the All Girl Summer Fun Band , they're back. This time around though, they're hitting the airwaves as a threesome. Taking up the challenge of re-forming themselves minus Ari Douangpanya , the three remaining girls shacked up in Kim Baxter 's basement to pump out the eleven track Looking Into It . If you're not familiar with the girls (they have been around, but flying under the radar, for ten years), imagine someplace between The Breeders and The Donnas , and you'll be in the neighborhood of [...]

I'm no longer a kid, nor am I in America. Doesn't mean I can't still sing this out loud and pretend to be both. Okay the first part was a lie. I'm still a kid. The Muffs - Kids In America ( Clueless OST , 1995) The Donnas - Kids In America ( Nancy Drew OST , 2007) LEN - Kids In America ( Digimon The Movie OST (!), 2000) Can you spot a pattern? [...]
The 90s certainly did prove to be an interesting time in music. Please allow me to paint a vivid picture for your enjoyment: 1998. New York State Fair, Syracuse, NY (Upstate). Sitting in the grandstand, awaiting a blockbuster performance from the highly regarded Britney Spears and 98 Degrees (Yes, I even stayed the whole time...I [...]

Oh, and just because I mentioned this before, I thought I'd follow up: Mack Winston and the Reflections are playing at Le Doux this coming Monday, 7/28. Also, the guys told me the Donnas are playing now too if you're into that sort of thing. And although I'm a little confused as to how rock bands can play or draw crowds at that kind of venue, it should be cool and I can't wait to take pictures with overly-busy Doux wall paper all over the background. [...]
