As part of the monthlong Red Bull Music Academy series in New York City this month, the legendary Giorgio Moroder was billed to take on his first ever DJ set at Output in Brooklyn this past Monday. With the assistance of his "music director" Chris Cox (whom you will hear Moroder himself introduce through a vocoder at the beginning of this recording), the pioneering producer spent the extent of his set breezing through many of the highlights of his life's work, including his work for Donna Summer, Three Degrees, Sparks, and Suzi Lane. He touched on his own [...]
It's the legend, the myth behind much of Donna Summer's huge disco success. Giorgio Moroder did most of his work in Munich and the influence of Düsseldorf’s Kraftwerk can be heard in his work for Donna Summer , which includes two of the ultimate disco anthems, I Feel Love and Love To Love You Baby . This was motorik music: spacious, trippy, ever-lasting, far removed from the relentless bounce of most disco. Giorgio Moroder is also a supreme composer of soundtracks, scoring an unlikely success with The Chase , the theme from Midnight Express , and his footprints are [...]

The most talked-about producer on the planet right now isn't one of the many crafting new material for Britney Spears , Beyonce and Justin Timberlake . It's Giorgio Moroder , the 73-year-old Italian musician whose synth-heavy work influenced more artists than you can fill on a sheet of paper and soundtracked at least two generations. Giorgio's longtime collaborator and close friend Donna Summer passed away one year ago today, at the age of 63. The disco queen kept her battle with lung cancer private, but it's Summer's [...]

tetDior probably has less followers than you, which is why this Donna Summer edit has a criminally low amount of plays. I think I saw it on Late Nite Tuff Guy's Facebook page, or one of those disco maestros. And it delivers. There's nothing too fancy here just a re-imagination of Giorgio Moroder's masterpiece. And a find reminder where Daft Punk started out from.

The dark appegiated analog synthesizer sound that Giorgio Moroder first popularized with Donna Summer's " I Feel Love " in the summer of 1977 is everywhere these days, and that's a good thing. Perhaps no one does it better than Minneapolis producer Gigamesh in this remix of London's Crystal Fighters . "You and I" is Gigamesh's second remix posted to his Soundcloud profile since his last original track " Enjoy " was released about three months ago. [...]

It's getting to that level around here with Chrome Canyon where they're releasing too much good new material. I'll start ignoring everyone else and only posting their tracks at this rate, and this ATTAR! remix of "Memories of a Scientist" is an unapologetic nod of the head to Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer that I can't stop listening to. One of my favorites of the year so far. The post Chrome Canyon - Memories of a Scientist (ATTAR! Remix) appeared first on Loudersoft .

Everyone is quite excited about the return of Daft Punk. (I mean, when you've got people making believably real remixes of a 15-second Saturday Night Live tease of your new tunes, you must be doing something right.) Today, the French duo unveiled the latest piece of their comeback promo: The Collaborators, a video interview series featuring the collaborators on their upcoming album, Random Access Memories. So, who's up for the first episode? None other than the prolific disco producer himself— Giorgio Moroder. [...]

Fatboy Slim aka Norman Cook is giving away a delicious mash-up of the Late & the Legendary Queen, Donna Summer vs the reigning Pop Princess Adele on his Soundcloud for free. “I Feel Love Rollin’ In The Deep” was made for his DJ sets that he has be spinning on tour. He decided to throw us all a Christmas bone and I FUCKING LOVE IT. First off, Donna Summer's (or rather Giorgio Moroder 's) beat is enrapturing still to this day, add some disco Adele on [...]

Electronica godfather Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim recently gave away a rollicking mash-up of Adele & Donna Summer on his Soundcloud for free. Retitled "I Feel Love Rollin' In The Deep" , it was made for his DJ sets, and finally offered the answer to the question "What if Adele unleashed her inner Giorgio Moroder disco diva ?" . The mash-up surprisingly works, making it one strong addition to your NYE party playlists. Check it out below. MP3: Fatboy Slim - I Feel Love Rollin [...]

Italy's Giorgio Moroder is a legendary figure in the world of disco. He is a godfather of the spacey, electronic, appegiated world of Italo disco that influenced so much American disco boogie and post-disco , which in turn influenced so much of the nu-disco we hear today on Hype Machine and SoundCloud . One of my favorite pieces of album artwork of all time is the cover for Moroder's From Here to Eternity. It's [...]

This year has already seen so many high-profile losses in the music world: Whitney Houston , Etta James , Don Cornelius and Dick Clark . More recently, Adam "MCA" Yauch . Stax Records' bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn , in the disco realm, singer Belita Woods of the group Brainstorm earlier in the week; as recently as this Wednesday, Chuck Brown , Washington DC's Godfather of Go-Go. And now, Donna [...]

It's around this same time every year that I look at the movie calendar with Memorial Day coming up in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, the summer blockbuster of yesteryear was plentiful. However, due to a creative outage in Hollywood, we're stuck with getting movie reboots and/or movie spinoffs of boardgames I use to play when I was a kid. "Battleship?" Seriously? As much eye candy as Rihanna provides, I'm not sure I could even waste $1.29 at the Redbox to see how bad that movie is waiting to suck. It's quite possible that the movie may [...]

Sad news in the music world as disco queen Donna Summer passed away today. As you know we're pretty big fans of italo/disco and when the production of Giorgio Moroder combined with the vocals/sexiness of Donna Summer it was gold (boots). My dad gave me his original greatest hits double album he had of hers, so i know what will be playin for the next couple days.

Donna Summer , the undisputed Queen of Disco, has died at the age of 63. A five-time Grammy winner who rocketed to superstardom in the '70s thanks to hits like "Last Dance," "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls," Summer's sound was the soundtrack of the '70s and '80s. Summer succumbed to cancer and was reportedly working on an album at the time of her death. Perhaps Summer's greatest contribution to disco was "I Feel Love" from her 1977 concept album I Remember Yesterday . Produced by Giorgio Moroder the song eschewed the strings commonly heard on disco songs [...]

I've just caught up on BBC4's The Joy Of Disco as I was in Manchester over the weekend (yes, I had a lovely time, thanks for asking). I love BBC4's music documentaries on a Friday, especially their Britannia strand, and The Joy Of Disco fits in perfectly with previous programmes. Naturally one of the greatest records of all time gets some attention, with Giorgio Moroder proudly explaining the influence and technique behind Donna Summer's I Feel Love. But [...]
