Tweet Listen to and download Felix And The Volcano! 's new song "Son Of Sam" below. One of the most exciting groups that I got my ears on this year is Felix And Volcano! , the synth-pop duo from Dover, New Hampshire who have been teasing with single, remix and EP releases since 2010. So when Sam Ueda tweeted last month that the band would release a new single around the [...]

SPOOK HILL :: SEPTEMBER MIXTAPE :: BOY ATTRACTIONS Walker and I have had this one in the works for a while. We decided a month or so ago (after our last mixtape) that we wanted to try something a bit different from our usual mixes. We settled on the idea of compiling our favorite songs recorded before 2000 that were relatively unknown or obscure (or at least if the artist was relatively known, one of their hidden gems). That was really the only restriction. Interestingly enough, there was a clear divide in the years [...]
Here's video of Atlas Sound/Bradford Cox and his ever-present wool cap in a church performing Walkabout and Please Come Home . I don't remember the song having a digeridoo in the background, or whatever instrument that is...the extra grit in his voice in this version is great, though. Interesting. I didn't know that Walkabout samples this song by The Dovers . There's a bit of a dust-up over the sampling on You Tube but I think that Walkabout , (especially in the [...]

The Dovers - What Am I Going To Do [extrait du 10" We Are Not Just Anybody ] Atlas Sound - Walkabout (Feat.
another free MP3 which has the Umbilical Chord's stamp of approval.

I make a lot mixes for my friends' video store and the most recent was turning out really good, so I thought I'd reinstate the seasonal mixes with a slightly adapted version. Expect more of these, but not on a weekly basis -- they're too time consuming -- but there will probably be another before October is over. (I'm thinking a Classic Goth Halloween.) Hope you like it, this one turned out pretty well. And like my Summer Fridays series , the songs actually segue together, so no shuffling please. Spooky cover art, once again, adapted from [...]
by goya fordy Trying to find about this band I was late on proved harder than normal as I tried to locate grains of biographical information within sentences such as "The pilgrim and the Indian, the last of their kind, one unfettered and proud, the other zealous and forgiven, come together to give thanks in a protestant fairytale." My clouded mind winced and then relented in the realization that I may just love this band. I proceeded to find out they're fairly well known and just played a Daytrotter session . [...]
(photo romorosso ) Vivian Girls are a recent favorite of mine. Really good garagey girl group sounds. Also more evidence that almost any band tagged with "shoegaze" I will immediately like. Vivian Girls // Never See Me Again (Vivian Girls LP, 2008) Vivian Girls // Snack Attack (Demo) ______________________________ ___________________________ (photo pat pat ) Here is some other music I've been liking: [...]
Hey Duder, Sorry I haven't called you back. It's not so much that I've been busy, but I've been not busy at all the wrong times. Time zones, that crazy Sandford Fleming. I've been thinking about what you said, about the Cold War Kids sounding like the Black Keys. I don't know if I hear it. The only song on the new BK album that sounds anything like CWK to me is "Psychotic Girl", and that might even be due more to Danger Mouse, and doesn't prove anything, since Attack & Release [...]

Photo: Tim Walker for Vogue, July 2005. My lover complains telling there's is way too much depressing & ambient music on this site, and although I beg to differ, I've arranged this playlist comprised of just really seedy and sleazy music, see if I get it right this time. So little music is seedy and dirty, so little good music is really. The post title comes from Tim Walker's photograph, he's one of my favorite photographers (fashion-wise) and I like to think this playlist echoes, on a certain level, the playful imagery of the scene. Take [...]

Elmgreen & Dragset - Hipsters (2005) For those of you who've been following the blog regularly, a Beyonce-shaped crack has recently burst open the flood gates of gitty, shitty pop music. The synthy, drum-machine-paced aftermath is not something I'm going to apologize for, but rather embrace and share (threatening comments are welcome and, well... expected). Just in time for your [...]
