On Drake's latest album, the Canadian rapper and singer embraces what makes him unique, and sounds great doing it. There is a noticeable hunk of filler on this LP, though. WATCH THE REVIEW
The rap star expertly side-steps the sophomore jinx
Aubrey Graham's sophomore album Take Care is arguably the biggest record release of the year. The Toronto native is coming off one of the more impressive stints in recent memory - seemingly having a feature on any and every Billboard smash you can think of. On the hype scale for 2011 hip-hop albums, I think it's only fair to say that this is right up there with Watch The Throne and the highly underwhelming Tha Carter IV. Sure, people love to rip on Drake for being from Canada, being too emotional, starring on Degrassi, and wearing unbelievably obnoxious sweaters. That's all fair game. [...]

In the cover article, Drake explains to writer (and former J. Cole roommate) Damien Scott that the reason he can't do the interview at his apartment is he's having an 'experience shower' installed. “It’s a shower that’s lit by all LED lights. It has 10 jets, an overhead, and it sprays out lavender or whatever scents you want. It’s something I’ve always wanted,” he explains. This is odd. Considering most of Drake's music focuses on his adversion to everything awesome, like his lavish lifestyle and static cling towards females with fake asses, you'd assume YMCMB's [...]

“ Thank Me Later was a rushed album. I didn’t get to take the time that I wanted to on that record… that’s why my new album is called Take Care , because I get to take my time this go-round.” This statement, made by Aubrey Drake Graham back in January 2011 , finds the most successful rapper in the world since Kanye West expressing dissatisfaction with a disc that Rolling Stone and Complex named the [...]

![DRAKE – TAKE CARE [REVIEW]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3853516_lg.jpg)
Sometimes it’s hard to praise what’s extremely popular. Especially when that most popular thing is from the city you're from. A place that is reputed, inside of itself and by aware outsiders, for being the "screwface capital". It’s a title Toronto was crowned with a while ago and it’s a name that leaves a terrible aftertaste for me. It seems stale, unfair and outdated. I’ve written on this site about how I think all of that is slowly changing and I still believe that to be true. Yet the generally resistant attitude against the mainstream that many music [...]

Hearing Drake and The Weeknd on a sort of 70's soul influenced major key track like this is nuts. Take Care is sooooo fucking good; such a massive step forward from Thank Me Later . Hard to believe it's the same guy. Take Care might be a classic. It's, no doubt, one of the LPs of 2011. "The Ride" might be our favorite track from it yet. Drake - The Ride (Feat. The Weeknd) Drake ( Official ) ( Twitter [...]

So I know we have all seen the royal highness cover that Drake ended up using for Take Care, but check out the alternative covers Drizzy had to choose from. Who knows, I may make one for the fun of it. Even with the ones pictured here, there are many more roaming the net. Check em' out below.
Set to release the follow up to last year's Thank Me Later LP with this month's Take Care , the title-track from Drake's upcoming record got given it's radio introduction recently. Drawing heavily from Jamie xx's brilliant remix of Gil Scott-Heron's I'll Take Care of U and featuring the current go-to girl Rihanna, Take Care is an interesting melting-pot of noise that showcases just how eclectic modern pop music is becoming. Rihanna purrs as normal, Jamie xx's spirit keeps things minimal and Drake does his thing. Enjoy.
