2012 was a great year for hip-hop. While many big names dropped much awaited albums the best surprises for me came from younger, lesser known talent such as Angel Haze, Joey Badass and Earl Sweatshirt. Amongst them, Kendrick Lamar definitely stands apart, and 2012 probably wouldn't have been as good if it wasn't for his astonishingly [...]

Kendrick Lamar will be releasing his latest LP on October 22nd through Aftermath/Interscope. A collaboration between Lamar and Dr. Dre appropriately for "Compton" has surfaced that is slated to be featured on the album. Production was handled by Just Blaze. Stream the cut below.

It is perhaps safe to say that 50 Cent, once regarded as hip hop's most vocal competitor and sometimes bully, has turned over a new leaf so to speak? In response to recent allegations and comments made on twitter by an artist on Dr Dre's Aftermath roster, 50 claims that he's starting a "twitter gang" and is encouraging his followers to"...smile at something you know would have pissed you off." Sounds interesting enough given Fif's confrontational past with other artists. But let's look a bit deeper here... When you consider the comments being levied at him by [...]

Last Friday this track was getting hyped up for its Monday release, now it's here and definitely lives up to the hype. Kendrick is slated to be dropping a new album through TDE/Interscope/Aftermath and this track is the first single. It's rare to get anything from Dr. Dre these days so this feature is huge. If this is what we need to look forward to from Kendrick then it's time to get excited for something great. Check the track out below.

Can't call it surprising, but definitely an exciting move today as Kendrick Lamar and the rest of the TDE Family officially sign with Aftermath Records. Kendrick's official debut album Good Kid in a Mad City and any other Black Hippy projects will be released via a TDE/Interscope/Aftermath joint partnership. Congrats to TDE & Black Hippy. I'll be expecting Eminem, Truth Hurts, Rakim, Slim The Mobster, Stat Quo and Bishop Lamont on that new Kendrick album. And The Firm.
Slim The Mobster, Dr. Dre's latest protege, shows that he is worth that highly coveted Aftermath cosign. Teaming up with Kendrick Lamar, who is recording with Dre as well, Slim knocks out a heavy single in "Whose House?" The track will appear on the War Music project, which is slated for a Nov. 8 release. Stream the track or download it after the skip. Download: Slim The Mobster – "Whose House?" f. Here goes some cool new West Coast shit. "What Goes Up" features Snoop and is signed off on by Dr. Dre (he executive produced). (Some serious West Coast royalty co-signing). "What Goes Up" has that sort of classic CA sound, that piano-driven cadillac bounce shit. How long before Jayceon starts beefing with this dude too. Slim The Mobster - What Goes Up (Feat. Snoop Dogg) Slim the Mobster ( Twitter ) ( Soundcloud ) Rating [...]

Dr. Dre "Kush" (Feat. Snoop Dogg and Akon) [Aftermath / Interscope; 2010] Posted by Chase McMullen on 03 December 2010 With the amount of hype and fear circling the release of an actual single from Detox , it was going to be essentially impossible to view the track as simply a song. It has to be more than that: it’s the return of Dr. Dre. Yet, inevitably, that’s just what “Kush” is. For [...]
A new single and a new label home could be just the ticket for Atlanta's milk carton MC

Even in our single-driven society, the truth is that most rappers can still reel in listeners influentially by simply reciting the honest realities observed through their rearview. The irony in keeping rap one hundred, however, is that the realness is killing one of it's building blocks; The Da Art of Storytelling. For the most part, our preoccupied society has become so enthralled by artists' personas and reputations that listeners are more likely to appreciate the 'truth' in a cheesy block star anthem than a storyteller's well-crafted depiction of intricacies. For instance, why check Slick Rick's timeless - yet, [...]

It's been a long yet lucrative road to the release of Before I Self Destruct , 50 Cent's much documented final record on his Interscope contract. Possibly the genre's last mega-star before Hip-Hop was regressed by the digital age, 50 saw endless mounds of success through business ventures, movies and of course, platinum plaques. Although less notably, popular opinion reads that the caliber of his albums have slipped considerably since his towering debut, Get Rich Or Die Tryin' . Especially when factoring the runaway success of the lead single "In Da Club"-a phenom 50 [...]

Oh, Fifty. You got your life so right and your bars so wrong. We haven't heard you spit anything but cheap shots in months years, but now you're trying to claim insane daisy-chained double-time rhymes like this ? Really ? I know you could sell fur coats to people at PETA, but I ain't talking about a bad bag when I say this one's a stretch. We all know B Rabbit's loco ass wrote those straitjacket sixteens in this Before I Self Destruct drip and you didn't. We're [...]
Leader of the true school seeks return to relevance with The Seventh Seal

Earlier this week, Gotty™ directed us to a piece entitled " Six Guests That Need To Be On Detox ." Throwing the element of surprise directly out the window, that list included Redman, Kanye West, Hova, Weezy, Raekwon and The Game. Now, I don't mean to rain on another's opinion...but aside from Jayceon, that list is subpar setup for a less than stellar presentation. It reflects someone who turned the radio off long enough to pick his favorite rappers, mix them with headliners Dre has yet to work with and, voilà, a "new & improved" version of Detox . [...]

Realistically, it took a several weeks from the time this song first appeared til now, when we're finally getting Dre's verse + a Curtis verse . Anybody want to put a rough time estimate on what that means towards the ETA of Detox ? Eminem Feat. Dr. Dre & 50 Cent - Crack A Bottle (Full Version) Previously Posted - 50 Cent "Get It In" (Produced By Dr. Dre)
Seemingly on the brink of resurgence, Aftermath Records - the powerhouse that legendary producer Dr. Dre built - is sporting a slimmed down roster these days. Stat Quo, the Atlanta rhyme animal who joined the camp in 2003 is the latest to acquire his free agency from the label, without releasing an album. He sits down with TSS Crew's TC and explains the shocking truth to why his album wasn't released and his plans for the future on the heels of his latest mixtape, The South Got Somethin' To Say. Apparently, so does Stat Quo. [...]
