I'm not sure if long running trip-soul NYC band Mudville is still active, but their lead singer Marilyn Carino 's solo record "Little Genius" keeps faith to that project's sound - it looks like the other half of Mudville (producer Ben Rubin) is also involved to some extent in this record. Marilyn's soulful alto takes us for a mesmerizing ride through mostly downtempo, dark tunes with electronic fluorishes, whose natural listening environment is any space suitable for love making. Her show at the small but pretty East Village bar/venue DROM might present you with a great opportunity to set [...]

This year the folks at DROM NYC are making a list and checking it twice for their first annual Holiday Jamboree party on December 18. So far, on their list are some great NYC artists, like Jennifer Logue (in the picture), The Wellington Papers , The Shake , The Young Things , and Danny Ross , as well as a few internationally renowned dance troupes, an emcee, and a late-night dance party that's sure to make you break a sweat and cleanse the naughty side right out of you, just in time [...]

Kiran Ahluwalia Award-winning Indian singer Kiran Ahluwalia is set to perform on Wednesday, November 9 at 7:00 PM at DROM in New York city to present her new album, Aam Zameen: Common Ground. photos by Chris La Putt Dark Dark Dark / A Hawk and a Hacksaw "Eerily soothing piano melodies, smirking accordion lines plucked from a New Orleans carnival, cloudy gang vocal harmonies, and lonely horn bleats inhabit last year's Bright Bright Bright EP and full-length Wild G o (both from Supply & Demand Music). Subdrive, the open-source electronic music net label, started out at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn with a radio show and local events six years ago. The legend continued two years ago, when Subdrive became the label itself, and not just an events promoter and proponent of their own brand of dance music. And Saturday, the gang [...]
Subdrive, the little net label that could, is turning the bright old age of six this week--today is actually the sixth anniversary day--and the gang are celebrating this Saturday night in New York City (just a few miles from their Pratt Institute beginnings) by showcasing their talent at Drom on Avenue A. The label itself [...]
For this year's New Year's Eve festivities, we were booked to cover the GBH events held at Drom Lounge on Avenue A and of course the 3:30am DJ set by The Bloody Beetroots at Webster Hall, our usual area of expertise. But before and in between those events we had enough time to pop by [...]
Sad face that the icy cool disco pop act Ladytron aren't performing, but whatever. We'll take what we can get. At a new every-other-Saturday night party at DROM in New York City, brought to you by UG, Ladytron will be DJ'ing alongside other guest DJ Jonathan and residents Jake B. and 24Court, and it's free [...]

Though we won't see the new album from Kayo Dot (entitled Coyote ) until it's released by Hydra Head in February of 2010, the band do have a single US tour date currently scheduled and it just happens to be in New York City. On October 9, the band will play at Drom; we hope the show offers a good preview of the new album! It's not as though Kayo Dot are taking it easy, they're just touring Europe (those dates are all after the jump). Kayo Dot tour dates: Sep [...]

Um. I just took a look at my concert calendar. This coming Thursday (June 18) has an absurd amount of awesome shows. If you live in the area, please attend one of them. Most links will take you directly to buying tickets, others (the Phoenix show...) will give you event details. - Phoenix and Lightspeed Champion at Music Hall of Williamsburg Phoenix - "Lost and Found" [MP3] ( not from Wolfgang ) Lightspeed Champion - "Tell [...]

Saturday night we hit up the Marco Trio show with guest star Jon Fishman (of Phish) at Drom on 6th and Ave A. Overall, I was very impressed with the show and the venue. For those of you who have never been, Drom is an underground venue, with a capacity of probably 500-700, a huge bar that is deceptively easy to get drinks, and even a lounge area next to the band if you want to spend more money for a perfect view. Pretty great atmosphere, even though it was slightly packed for the main event. We got [...]
by marc amigone (photo by mike bowring) Kal , the funkiest Serbian Gypsy band on the planet, will be hitting the stage at Drom Monday September 22nd, at which point a serious dance party will unfold. Kal's music is a diverse mix of influences and sounds that only the well traveled Gypsy, or Roma people as they prefer to be called, could produce. They mix bhangra beats, Argentine tango, waltz, Balkan blues, Montenegran rap, accordion, flamenco guitar, Middle Eastern rhythms, and Turkish clarinets, with a [...]
