Today we flash back on another of our favourite labels: SUB POP RECORDS . They're responsible for the careers of a diverse range of bands, from Nirvana to Dum Dum Girls to our very own Husky . And they're celebrating 25 years in the business on July 13. That means that they've been around since 1988. Before that founder Bruce Pavitt started a fanzine called Subterranean Pop about American independent artists and their labels. He started releasing compilations [...]
Noise Pop, Dream Pop, Garage Pop, Shoegaze Pop .
Dum Dum Girls “Lord Knows” It's taken me a long time to finally jump on the Dum Dum Girls train. I never disliked them exactly, but their music never really struck a cord (uhg sorry) with me either. That all changed after I heard the very beautiful "Lord Knows" for the first time. As soon as I heard the song I knew I wanted to do a post for it, so it was serendipitous that the Christin Turner [...]
The VPME DUM DUM GIRLS Ok so this week's whistle stop round up kicks off with Dum Dum Girls and two tracks from their End of Daze EP which is out now on Subpop and which we reviewed back HERE. The band described it as an " An unbelievably kind review" bless 'em, but we simply call it the TRUTH! Below you can listen to 'I Got Nothing,' watch the video for 'Lord Knows' and then scamper off and order the EP. [...]

Dum Dum Girls' newest EP sounds nice, but where's the beef? Sub Pop, 2012 5.9 / 10.0 It seems as if we're about to witness the slow and painful death of girl-groups. Sure, this trend has been evident since the release of the Vivian Girls' rather disappointing 2011 LP, Share [...]
Somber, soft and shoegazingly brilliant "Trees and Flowers" rises above most tracks from any LP, yet this track comes from the Dum Dum Girls' newest EP, End of Daze . Lead singer Dee Dee Penny drives the emotion and tempo with her downtrodden vocals as chime-like guitar chords roll through with the settling keyboard play. If this song had a violin, you could just waste away the day soaking in the sun filled with a glum satisfaction. "Trees and Flowers" is a musical piece of art where the empathy of the listener can't be explained. [...]
Dum Dum Girls End Of Daze Sub Pop Records Fire Note Says: End of Daze , the new ep from Dum Dum Girls is both haunting and gorgeous! Album Review: End of Daze , the new Sub Pop ep from Dum Dum Girls is simply stunning. Partially recorded immediately after last years Only in Dreams , as well as featuring [...]
Jonah Bromwich bleached his hair black to write this review. End of Daze is the Dum Dum Girls third EP. It's their fifth release overall. In other words, they are no longer a new band. That's a trying time for any group, especially for one led by a volatile personality like Kristin Gundred, a.k.a Dee Dee Penny. If you paid close attention to the Girls’ last album, the heavily underrated Only In Dreams , you could hear the strain that the frontwoman was [...]
The Dum Dum Girls have been on a serious roll this past year, making the art of creating timeless, emotion-heavy indie pop-rock seem as easy as blinking, and on their new EP End of Daze (officially due September 25th, but stream-able here ) the band show little signs of easing back, cooking up five more doses of retro-tinted ear comfort to keep fans satisfied until the next go 'round. While a significant portion of their recent work carries an air of sounding like its been around forever, with [...]
Dum Dum Girls ' newest EP End Of Daze won't be out officially until September 25, but Sub Pop is streaming all five tracks already. It's what you expect from the all-girl foursome; glorious lo-fi, 60s-inspired pop, rich in dreamy vocals. Check the whole thing out below.
Stream the new Dum Dum Girls EP, End of Daze below. End of Daze will be out next week via Sub Pop.
A few weeks ago, we posted the lovely "Lord Knows" from blissed-out rockers Dum Dum Girls . The cut is to appear on their End of Daze EP, scheduled for release on next Tuesday on Sub Pop . As is becoming commonplace, the band has decided to stream it in its entirety a week early. You can find it below. Tour Dates: 09/25 – Los Angeles, CA @ Origami Music 09/27 – Los Angeles, CA @ Los [...]
Listen to Dum Dum Girls ' gorgeous Strawberry Switchblade cover , just one of many highlights on the group's new End of Daze EP, which can be heard in full here .
Lord Knows è il brano conclusivo di End of Daze , il nuovo EP di Dum Dum Girls in uscita il 25 Settembre per Sub Pop.
Back when Dum Dum Girls dropped their 2010 debut I Will Be , it would have been hard to predict that within two years, frontwoman Dee Dee would develop into a remarkably talented and mature singer/songwriter. Tracks like the devastating "Coming Down" from last year's Only In Dreams established this newfound maturity, and the Dum Dums' new single "Lord Knows" simply reaffirms it. Though not as lethargic or dark as some of the Dee Dee's previous 'mature' statements, "Lord Knows" still displays an incredible ability to regulate and convey emotion, along with the Dum Dums' consistently great melodic sense [...]
