Dum Dum Girls have the destinction of making me tolerate a Smiths song. I had no idea that "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" was the work of Morrissey and with Dee Dee singing, I can actually stomach it. Anyway, their video for last year's slow motion stomp "Coming Down" pairs the mournful song with a stark black & white clip featuring an scissor wielding audience. Take a look at the video's direct influence: Yoko Ono's 1965 performance entitled Cut Piece : Please [...]

Sure, Kristen Gundred (aka Dee Dee) and the ladies of Dum Dum Girls started to give us thowbacks to Chrissie Hynde with last year's "Only In Dreams," but not only is it done well enough; it's also an impressive departure from their earlier jangly ditties like “Jail La La.” Their “End of Daze” EP (out now on Sub Pop) continues down this path into moodier, heavier ‘60s-influences with tunes like the single “Lord Knows” (which seemingly shares similar chords to “Crimson and Clover”). Christin Walker ("Ja La La", "He Gets Me High", "Bhang, Bhang, I'm A Burnout") returns [...]

Dum Dum Girls ' EP End of Daze is out today on indie stalwart Sub Pop , and to accompany the release we now have a vaguely creepy, ritualistic video for the dreamy lead single " Lord Knows ." The EP has been available to stream for a week, but if you missed out, you can still listen to the enjoyable five track effort here .

As we've mentioned already, last year Dum Dum Girls released their fantastic second album Only In Dreams and this week have followed it up with their just-as-fantastic EP End Of Daze . They dropped the balladic "Lord Knows" at the start of August and to commemorate the EP's release today they've revealed their pagan-esque video for the track which you can take in like a pagan ritual below. [...]

" Lord Knows ," the lead single from the new Dum Dum Girls EP End Of Daze , is one of the prettiest songs to come down the pike in the last few months. And in the track's new video, from director Christin Turner , all four Dum Dums play veiled witch brides who summon a shirtless dude from a flaming column. Watch it below. Read More...
[mp3] Dum Dum Girls: "Lord Knows" We have a massive amount of respect for Dum Dum Girls . Starting as a dime-a-dozen lo-fi girl group, Dum Dum Girls have honed their songwriting, image and sound to remain cutting edge, and downright excellent - while their lesser peers (see Vivian Girls) have disappeared. Dum Dum Girls began as a band we were not destined to like, and have matured into a band we might end up loving. Their new EP End of Daze comes out today on Sub Pop.

In about three weeks the duo that comprises Tamaryn will release their new album Tender New Signs via Mexican Summer, and have just revealed the first video from the album too. "Heavenly Bodies" is another fine example of the band's grinding shoegaze and driving guitars, something the album is replete with and sure to pull in some new faces who are fans of Zola Jesus , Dum Dum Girls , and even [...]

During my formative years gravy, along with canned vegetables, boxed vegetables, meat and milk, made up my personal five food groups. There was something about that thick, comfortable, gray liquid that made food taste better. No one did it better than my grandma. Part of the reason I was ok with becoming vegetarian was I could still eat her gravy. At Thanksgiving I would skip the turkey and pile gravy all over mashed potatoes, corn and stuffing. It wasn't until later that I realized gravy was a meat based food and any true vegetarian wouldn't touch the stuff. I remained a [...]
It seems like only yesterday that Dum Dum Girls dropped Only In Dreams , but it was really last year, and despite their unrelenting tour schedule the Girls have found time to record a new EP, End of Daze , which’ll drop in September. It includes five previously unheard songs, one of them a cover of Scottish pop-rock duo Strawberry Switchblade’s “Trees and Flowers.” Right now, you can sample a stripped-down acoustic version of first track “Mine Tonight” that the band’s frontwoman Dee Dee and guitarist [...]
