Now, I'm no meteorologist, but based on this week's Hip-Hop Dojo, it seems fair to say that we have a scorching hot summer ahead of us. The ninth edition of The Hip-Hop Dojo is jam packed with promising young talent primed to take over the game. The beginning of summer also indicates the start of mixtape season, which is what really makes this week’s selection truly special. Just about every track collected here was specifically chosen from a stellar project that recently dropped. While we can only share one gem from each artist, definitely make an effort to check out [...]
by Tiana Feng Shot in Australia, here is Dusted 's video for the haunting "Bruises".
Check out the latest video from Dusted , "Bruises" off the album Total Dust . The shimmering flares of sunlight and soft focus of the video pairs perfectly with Dusted 's fuzzed out guitars and haunting vocals. Director Ben Portas, who is a longtime friend and collaborator of Dusted 's label Hand Drawn Dracula , shot the video in remote Australia, taking advantage of his surroundings to craft a beautiful visual interpretation of the song. This summer Dusted hit two of Canada's favourite summer festivals, NXNE in Toronto [...]

Around Ripple, we just couldn't be more excited about the pending remastered/reissue of the two seminal Dust albums, Dust and Hard Attack. Coming on RSD, 4/20/2013 it's about time these albums got a proper reissue and opened up new ears. To mark the occaision, here's a re-issue of an earlier Dust review I wrote when I first got a copy of the original Karma Sutra vinyl. And don't forget Woody's recently published interview with Dust's Richie Wise. With Marky Ramone [...]
Mother nature decided to pull a fast one and the snow returned in Ottawa. But it didn't stop some people to come out to this show at Pressed on April 12th. Playing at the show: • Dusted • Scattered Clouds I was looking forward to this show because it was Dusted first time in Ottawa. If you aren't familiar, Dusted is Brian Borcherdt (Holy Fuck) new music project [...]
Each week on ‘Throwback Thursday’ we dust off a crucial but underrated album, without which heavy metal’s evolution would have turned out quite differently. This week there’s even more dust involved than usual: as in Dust, the band, whose fingerprints are spread all over heavy metal’s formative past, difficult as it may be at first ... The post Throwback Thursday: When The DUST Settles appeared first on Metal Injection .
This wasn't really part of CMW . But I really wanted to check out this day show at the Garrison. You can say this was the quintessential "hipster" show to be at. Playing at the show: • Mac DeMarco • Dusted • Suuns Very excited to see Suuns. Suuns played a amazing [...]

The story of Brooklyn proto-metal power trio Dust is truly one of a kind. Over the years there have been bands where a member goes on to a much brighter future. There have been plenty of supergroups. But there's only one where every single band member stayed in music and achieved success, sort of like a supergroup in reverse. Guitarist/vocalist Richie Wise went on to become a producer and engineer working with Kiss, Gladys Knight, Weird Al Yankovic and many, many more. Bassist Kenny Aaronson has played with just about everyone [...]

Norman Wong Increasingly, Friday posts are for clearing off the decks of whatever hasn't gone out earlier in the week, but that doesn't mean the content isn't quality - this ain't no fire sale, son. But it also doesn't mean I'm not giving some stuff away. Because I am. Earlier this week, Toronto electro-operatic sensation Austra announced details of their second album, to be entitled Olympia and due out June 18. And because they believe in deeds, not words, they also made the first single from the new record available [...]

Everything in my inbox is prefaced with "SXSW" this week, and as I'm obviously nowhere near Austin, Texas this week, I've pretty much all but ignored anything related to the annual festival. One thing did grab my attention, though, and that's news of previously unreleased tracks from Dusted . In advance of their four SXSW shows, the band opened the vault to share two early, unreleased tracks: "No Trouble" and "In Yr Skull" (originally from a limited edition flexidisc split with METZ). Both tracks were recorded early in Dusted's history and feature Brian [...]
Dusted has a new track that comes as an officially unofficial unreleased track. Ummmm, yeah, it is a new song that is now available as a lone piece of recorded material, I guess. And it is ridiculously good! Hand Drawn Dracula put up the free download via their Soundcloud page and I found it yesterday through an Exclaim! article I think. Anyway, the song is below in all its downtrodden goodness. Borcherdt and crew make that transition of acoustic oriented music to fully electric with a full band and it still retains that closeness/familiarity of a folk tune. [...]

Last month Low Life Inc. released the new 12” & video from DUST called Past Future - A Dark Tale of Disco Disquietude . Now DUST, from deep in the heart of Bushwick, is back with a cover version of original Chicago Acid House classic “Your Only Friend” by Phuture (DJ Pierre). This song was originally the b-side to the 1st ever Acid House record Acid Tracks . 25 years later DUST do their take, most respectfully, but twisted none the less. There are few artists you can single-handedly point to as being a trailblazers of a specific musical style. But when it comes to American heavy metal, Dust is one such band. Comprised of singer/guitarist/songwriter Richie Wise, bassist Kenny Aaronson, and drummer Marc Bell (with Kenny Kerner supplying lyrics and sharing songwriting and production duties), the band issued a pair of cult classic albums - 1971's self-titled debut and 1972's 'Hard Attack' - before splitting up. Both albums have been long out-of-print, but headbangers will now get a chance to discover the [...]
