We're very excited to announce our involvement in the second annual Northside Festival , a four-day celebration of all the sweet sights and sounds brewing around the Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods. Headed by the always excellent L Magazine , this year's festival promises to build on 2009's success, and as savvy veterans of last year's inaugural installment , we here at EAR FARM also pledge to keep the good times going this year. As such, we're once again taking over Spike Hill , perhaps the most centrally located venue in the whole darn neighborhood, [...]

What a fitting way to end our recent spate of movie-related content here on EF. It's like the producers of The Runaways planned the film's release around OUR editorial schedule, and for that we're truly grateful. Anyhow, by now you're probably familiar with The Runaways , right? It's sort of a biopic (groupopic?) about Joan Jett and Cherie Currie and the formation of their groundbreaking, all-girl 70s rock band The Runaways*. Starring Kristin Stewart as Jett and Dakota Fanning as Currie, we can definitely recognize that at least the casting is inspired, right? [...]

So the holidays are looking pretty dismal this year for me...car broken, car fixed, car broken 30 minutes after being fixed...so it looks like Brooklyn is where I'll be for the holidays. Since I'm trying to kill time until I go check on the car again (which is already back at the mechanic) I thought I would put up a couple not so holiday themed Christmas songs...and why are they not so holiday themed? Well I'm not feeling in the spirit enough to listen to my favorite album, Vince Guaraldi Trio's Charlie Brown Christmas (BUY IT HERE [...]

Our good friends over at Earfarm (one Poptarts favorite blogs of 2009) just put out a holiday compilation disc amusingly titled " Do you EAR what I EAR? " and they are having little record release/holiday party tonight ( Dec 18 ) at Spike Hill in honor of it. If I didn't have my own office party to attend tonight, I would definitely be there. Here's a little more info on this evening's festivities: Dearest of EAR FARMErs - We're having a FREE party tonight. It's an [...]

Are you fed up with all of the 2009 Year-End Online Music Lists yet? We're not! And clearly, since you're here and all, you're not either. Right on. What you'll find below is a list of our "top" 15 albums released in 2009. What does this mean? Our favorites? The best records we heard all year? Both, yes. These are the bests of our favorite albums that found their way to our ears this past year. The most favorite-bests, the ones we couldn't do without even if we tried. As we did last year , and the [...]

When I asked Matt Tyson of Goes Cube and Ear Farm fame to submit a list for this year's Best of '09 feature I knew I'd be getting something great back. Now I knew he'd save his own album lists for his blog, but what he submitted to me is freakin' awesome! Matt gave us a rundown of his 10-favorite metal albums from 2009. Now some of these are standards and belong on every list - namely, Mastodon and Isis - but some of these were totally new [...]
Monday: The Slits, The Sundelles, + Sisters @ Highline Ballroom 7pm $15 [ tix ] Amid all the hoopla surrounding the reunions of bands like Pavement, My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, The Vaselines, Mission of Burma, etc., etc., some of reunions have been lost in the perpetual motion of all this getting back together. One such band is Britain's The Slits, an all-girl punk group that is sorely underrated and being a bit overlooked once again. The vivacious punks have been reunited since 2005 and are once again touring to pump the new Trapped [...]

Every year at this time people across this great land line up to play on your heart strings hoping to save noble charity after noble charity with just a few pennies from you. Every year we fall for at least a couple of them, especially when they're offering us something great in return. We've already shelled out $0.99 for Fucked Up's version of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" which benefits three great organizations up in Toronto ( read more here ) and we're sure some Salvation Army Santa's will managed to pry a few coins from [...]
Brooklyn band Shark? graciously sent me their garage-tastic cover of the Beat Happening 's Christmas to share with you all as as a taste of a fantastic holiday compilation / benefit album project they're involved in. Subjective as the day is long, personal as a Hot Topic tweens diary, debatable as Tiger Woods' personal life (dig the instantly dated pop culture reference folded into year-end lists), our rundown of the top songs from 2009 are simply the ones that rocked us the hardest this past year. From deep cuts to ubiquitous food court jams, little-known faves to cultural icons, these are not "singles" in the traditional sense (except in a few cases) but rather a list of our favorites, and damn if that shouldn't count for something. So let's get to the [...]

The world of music blogging is a pretty tight knit little world. We all know each other, at least on the internet, we follow each other's Twitters, we are friends on Facebook and we usually know what the other one is doing each day. It's a fun little sect to be a part of and so each year I like to include my ten favorite blogs of the year in my year-end run down. Most of you probably read these sites already but for those that don't add them to your Google Reader right now! Don't worry there will be [...]
by pelly QC's incomparable Kevin Diamond is front man for the lo-fi garage rock trio Shark? - His talents secured him a spot on Ear Farm's: Do You Ear What I Ear? Christmas compilation with Tom Tom Club and Tune-Yards, his dirty and chaotic brain helped produce this sex filled cover of Beat Happening's "Christmas." Enjoy the amazing video.

Christmas is either your favorite time of the year or it can be the most stressful time of the year. I find it easier to get the best bargains online without pulling out my hair looking for parking at any of the overcrowded malls. Any they tell us we're in a recession?!?! One of my guilty pleasures is listening to Christmas music starting the day after Thanksgiving. It's beyond on me how stores or radio stations start at the beginning of November. We're now in the Christmas music stretch and without further ado, [...]
