Balitmore's setup minimal, noise maximalist Ed Schrader's Music Beat have put together this great video for their contribution to Sub Pop's 2013 Record Store Day release Sub Pop 1000 . 'Radio Eyes' features an oddly populated table, stop motion animation and rather top notch lighting. The clip was directed by another duo, this one from Brooklyn: A Mean Gloam . Grab an mp3 of 'Radio Eyes' from Stereogum . Ed Schrader is a man of many talents, hosting a live comedy talk show (which you can see on youtube) [...]
Track off the Sub Pop 1000 compilation out now.
Last year, we made the terse Baltimore postpunk duo Ed Schrader's Music Beat a Band To Watch . This year, they contributed a song to Sub Pop's Sub Pop 1000 compilation. And now they've got a video for that song, "Radio Eyes." In the clip, the band's two members occupy some sort of hellish academic realm, one full of sentient apples and grabby disembodied hands. Philip Leaman directs, and you can watch the video and download the song below. Read More... [...]

Roomrunner at Mercury Lounge in September ( more by Tracy Allison ) Baltimore grunge bearers Roomrunner have two solid EPs under their belt -- 2011's self titled EP and 2012's Super Vague EP -- and they're in the process of recording their debut full length. No word on when that will come out, but presumably some time in 2013. The band are playing a few shows this January, including one in Brooklyn on January 18 at Shea Stadium [...]

You can listen to Jazz Mind , their debut album, below and you can buy it on Upset The Rhythm. They're on tour in the UK, starting tonight, and we don't think you should miss them. Long before electronic wizard Dan Deacon released his commercial debut, 2007’s Spiderman Of The Rings, he’d gigged with a high-school ska band, earned a computer-music-composition degree from SUNY at Purchase, blew tuba for Langhorne Slim, shredded improv grindcore guitar with Rated R, started a chamber ensemble, co-founded Baltimore’s Wham City arts/music collective and released a [...]

Future Islands and Ed Schrader's Music Beat put together a split 73 for Less Artists More Condos, which will be released next week, with all proceeds going to charity in honor of the late LAMC founder Ariel Panero. For each LAMC split 7” (label) Famous Class asked one of their favorite bands to provide them with an unreleased track for the A-side. They were then asked to pick their favorite emerging artist to provide a track for the B-side. Both tracks are solid and the future islands track, unsurprisingly, sound s like [...]

Ed Schrader's Music Beat dropped their debut LP, Jazz Mind last month. The Baltimore-based duo started a simply: it was just Ed and a floor tom. Since Schrader started working with bassist Devlin Rice, they have created something that oscillates between no-wave punk and genres a bit more gloomy, croony and doomy. This here is the track number eight which features guitar and noise from Randy Randall of No Age . Listen. Downloadable: When I'm in a Car (mp3) You can purchase the physical [...]

Stereogum Ed Schrader's Music Beat are a two-piece band from Baltimore who play elemental, stripped-down postpunk, and who find a surprising amount of variation in that description. Frontman Schrader sings while banging on a rudimentary drum kit - one he plays standing up - and a metronomic rhythmic pulse is just about the only connecting thread running through all the duo's songs. They can do frothy, feral trashcan screams, demented psychedelic garage, and tunefully sinister indie-pop. Schrader's voice is a baritone croon, and it serves them well whether [...]

Ed Schrader's Music Beat from GONZO CHICAGO on Vimeo. In 2011, a friend of mine held an art show in Chicago. It also housed some of our favorite local bands like Piss Piss Piss, Moan Moan Moan, and Lechuguillas. Smack dab in the middle of a seven band line-up was Ed Schrader's Music Beat. Being unfamiliar, and properly sauced by the time these two took the stage, I really had no idea what was in store for me. He lit the drum, covered it with a Double Dagger t-shirt, and they were off....
