Los Angeles elected a new mayor on Thursday. With a record low voter turnout of only 15 percent, Mayor-elect Eric Garcetti clinched the win by only 26,000 votes, beating the unfortunately named opposition, city comptroller Wendy Gruel. At 42, Garcetti is Los Angeles's first Jewish mayor and LA's youngest in more than one hundred years. Here's a quick fact sheet on the man to take LA's mayoral office come July 1st. He describes himself as "half-Mexican, half -Jewish, with an Italian last name," which means ethnically he should have been LA's mayor a long [...]

Gossip that's been buzzing among political junkies this week turned into headline news on Wednesday morning, after Politico reported that Anthony Weiner has made at least two hires for his prospective New York City mayoral candidacy. The former U.S. congressman has staffed up with a press secretary and, as his apparent campaign manager, Danny Keder, a NYC political operative who has managed at least two congressional runs in the five boroughs. Team Weiner is expected to officially announce its bid for City Hall next week. The New York Post jumped on the coattails of [...]
Although it is only a bit after 10, I have already had a busy morning in contrast to yesterday's day of sloth. I woke up at 6:30 to the sound of raindrops, came downstairs, went to get the papers then read both of them. When I was finished, I went upstairs and changed my bed. As I unfurled the bottom sheet, a sock flew out of the corner, the missing sock to one of the few pairs I have without holes. I never throw socks away. I always figure the shoe hides the holes. I then finished the bed, got [...]

Whatever happened to Rilo Kiley ? Poised for success, the band seemed to implode after the release of 20072s Under the Blacklight . Led by singer/guitarist Jenny Lewis and guitarist/singer Blake Sennett, Rilo Kiley had gone from cute indie pop band who could do " The Frug, " to a sultry machine whose previous lead single, " The Moneymaker, " featured porn stars in its video. Since '07, Lewis has gone on to become a fairly successful solo [...]

Rilo Kiley was a post-Fleetwood Mac indie pop band from Los Angeles, California. They were led by Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett. Rilo Kiley has been (as kind of stated by Blake Sennett) dead for a about four years now and it's time to get nostalgic. Below we've got a tune called "Let Me Back In" from an upcoming compilation of rarities from Rilo Kiley called RKives . Jenny Lewis now makes music (as herself, and as Jenny and Johnny) and Blake Sennett last released an album as The Elected in 2011. This band was very [...]
Senator-Elect Warren The very best result of the election so far was announced yesterday: From The Atlantic: Elizabeth Warren Finally Gets Her Shot to Fight Wall Street, Head-on After making her name defending the little guy from the greedy clutches of Wall Street's worst villains, Elizabeth Warren will finally have the chance to grill the country's top bankers face-to-face. The new Senator-elect from Massachusetts will get a seat on the Senate Banking Committee after all. Warren [...]

I adore everything about Alexis Madrigal's story on the programmers and developers who built the software that helped get Obama reelected so much that I'm just going to employ you to read it. How can you not with grafs like this: "When Obama campaign chief Jim Messina signed off on hiring [Harper] Reed, he told him, "Welcome to the team. Don't fuck it up." As Election Day ended and the dust settled, it was clear: Reed had not fucked it up." If you needed further proof that the cool kids are the nerds these days, [...]
Obama's second term is down to Katy Perry, reports Gordon Smart : KATY PERRY is taking credit for BARACK OBAMA’s election win after buying him a pair of lucky Y-fronts with his face on them. Nothing would give you confidence like discovering your four years has seen you reduced to a novelty figure picking up skidmarks. But tell me Gordon: is Katy really claiming her comedy knickers brought victory? [A source said] “Katy’s been saying he won because of the lucky pants.” So it was just a joke, as you, erm, [...]

Last night was a nail biter till the end. But I ended up celebrating; and even if you didn't hopefully you could at least find a local race to enjoy. So, since I tend to lean towards the lists, here are my favorite songs to celebrate to. : The Cure - Just Like Heaven : Can you find a much more upbeat song than this? The 80s synth line carries us into a world where people run away with each other, like every damn excellent rom-com ever. Has there ever been a band that sounded so different from [...]

Just a few post-election things that we felt was worth rounding up and then that's it. We promise. No more election shit until the 2014 midterms. Here's Andrew Sullivan's take on the election : It’s been a long long slog these past five years of backing the skinny guy with the funny name. But this election, to my mind, is immensely more important than the breakthrough of 2008, after the catastrophe of Bush-Cheney. What it has done is rip open the complete epistemic closure [...]

As we all know today is the day our country will change forever. Either we will continue the forward progress we've made in the past four years, or we'll experience a drastic shift not only politically, but in the social and moral values we as Americans hold. ABC News has the exclusive digital coverage of the election tonight from 7pm-2am EST. Hit the jump for the stream.

We get it: You’re sick of it. You’re sick of all of the ads and the robocalls and people on Facebook telling you to vote. Yep, it’s annoying. Here’s what’s more annoying: Generations of people have fought for your right to vote. They have died for it. Their kids did not get to see them step off the plane and into welcoming arms. Their spouses did not get to finally have a morning where the doorbell ringing sent them into a panic. Their parents didn’t get to see them grow into the better versions of themselves. They died [...]

November 6, 2012 marks election day in these United States. Citizens are asked to leave their couches for a few minutes to exercise a privilege for which many anti-tax colonists once gave their lives. As we know, music can be a powerful medium for conveying political messages, uniting a group around a cause and mobilizing an electorate. So for election day 2012 I decided to shine a light on five songs that have impacted political discourse. This is not a definitive political playlist, but one worthy of your listen nonetheless. [...]

No, this is not Mitt Romney, nor his son Matthew. Matt Romney and his running mate Rob Paul emerged over the summer on Facebook with a simple, resonating message - "honestly partyin." And "taxe cuts." And, well, a lot of this: my directers chair i orderred finallly got delivered today i'm gonna take it to the white horse and sit in it and i'll tell ppl to shout out the name of every taxe and each time im gonna shoutt "CUT! !!" into the megphone thing that my frends [...]
![[LP] Troy Boy: Troy Boy For President](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4599556_lg.jpg)
Troy Boy is gearing for a strong output at the polls tomorrow, as projections show him having a great chance of gaining some notoriety as a popular write in candidate on ballots in Illinois. Yesterday he released his debut solo project Troy Boy For President, an eight-track LP solely produced by long-time collaborator Montana Macks. Right off the bat Troy takes us to "Camp David," a head knocking track begging for a swisher to be sparked during it's elapsed time playing on the system. Each track that follows gives the listener a similar vibe, something I think is missing in many artists [...]
Doesn't matter if you vote for Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, or Gary Johnson (he's the Libertarian Party candidate, btw), so long as you get out and vote on Tuesday, despite who Will Ferrell says you should vote for.
