Friday night's free Scene Unseen party is billed as "Our favorite discoveries from your favorite scenes," which feels like a too-normal pitch for a genre-mashing late night shindig offering everything from Berlin-style ping pong to the SF debut of one of the moment's weirdest rappers. With a whole bunch of electronica and hip hop on deck, that the evening is free with an RSVP on Do415 seems almost criminal. On the local front, you've got Ghosts on Tape 's dark house [...]

Here's our latest month-in-review mix collecting some our favorite new (or new to us) songs recently posted on the website. Many readers will know that we loved Dave Reep 's newest album, Transitions , under the Elephant & Castle moniker. Well, Reep has co-released a new compilation from his West In Dust label that he shares with music writer/producer Glenn Jackson from James & Evander . Electronic listeners should be interested in downloading the 14 track compilation that showcases the bass music that switches focus between moody pockets of haze and forward-thinking dancefloor tunes. Download the new West In Dust 2012 Compilation below for free. Read [...]

Elephant & Castle, aka David Vincent Reep, recently did a session with Echolocale. One of the songs Reep performed was "I Will" from his upcoming album Transitions out this month (March 27th). I can attest to it being very good. Watch the performance of "I Will" below. Read more »

While this week really means tons of shows along the streets of Austin, several noteworthy artists are releasing this week - so let's get to them. Delta Spirit returns to the spotlight with their self-titled effort. This rock pop group from Long Beach previously released History from Below (2011) and Ode to Sunshine (2010). From Houston arrives the self-titled debut from Drowner . The dream pop/shoegaze foursome really have something a little different that could be what you need as the somewhat lo-fi sound kicks into gear at [...]

(Song Of The Day) Elephant & Castle and shortcircles - All I Can Say Our boy shortcircles teamed up with Elephant & Castles to make a stunning track called “ All I can say ”. The track will appear on the fourth coming compilation from West In Dust blog. Listen to this beauty below.

Oakland producer BOATS has just dropped his new EP , Bleaving , on Dollops Music . It also marks the inaugural release for the similarly Oakland-based label/collective. From the first notes of opening track "Scribe" to the fade out of final track "Fogburns," Bleaving is an immediate blanket for the ears. It's synthed-out beats aren't too dreamy, and it's laid back hooks aren't too calm. Bleaving is the next fresh batch of head-nodding tunes your chill collection needs. Stream the album below, but [...]

Elephant & Castle feat. tUnE-yArDs : En Memoria - MP3 ( Transitions , March 13 via Plug Research ) MP3

Elephant & Castle is the project of producer David Vincent Reep. Spending much of his early career focused on another area of music (starting a DIY label), Reep hopes to make his presence known in the electronic/ambient genres. Citing influences of Flying Lotus and DJ Shadow, Elephant & Castle's first single "En Memoria" not only hints at promise, but it also delivers with a cameo from Tune-Yards' Merrill Garbus. The track will be a part of Elephant & Castle's album Transitions out March 13th via Plug Research. Download "En Memoria" below. [...]

Merrill Garbus sings on this track from Elephant & Castle's debut LP, Transitions .

If you're anything like me, you know how difficult it can be to keep track of all of the new music that's constantly floating around the Internet. Here's our latest month-in-review mix collecting some our favorite new (or new to us) songs recently posted on the website. Gathered in the mix are fifteen tracks, all from Bay Area bands, that were posted on TheBayBridged.com in July. The Bay Bridged - Best of the Blog July 2011 Mixtape Tracklisting: [...]
I had never heard of David Vincent Reep's work as Elephant & Castle prior to receiving an e-mail blast featuring the dude's latest single, "Sweet Someone/I Will". But now, after playing both tracks at least a handful of times, you can guarantee that we'll be covering more of his music in the coming months. Reep's got this uber-dreamy/psych quality going on here, particularly on "Sweet Someone", which features the Beatles-esque melodies of Aaron Ferguson. You can purchase these tracks as a single right now while Elephant & Castle's Transitions album isn't due out until 2012. Sigh. Time to [...]
