Daily Video: Rachael Yamagata - Sunday Afternoon

OK -- it's Sunday afternoon, it's feeling like fall and we're thinking that Rachael Yamagata 's video for "Sunday Afternoon" would be perfect company. A majestic nine-minute track that builds to a climax of heartbreaking emotional release, the song is taken from Ms. Yamagata's sorely overlooked album, the depressed-vs.-defiant Elephants...Teeth Sinking Into Heart released a year ago almost to the day. The paraphrase Springsteen, this is the difference between something you need...and something you want. For this one, we're opting for the first. Myspace Artist Site

Love More Than Music ( ) Heaven Shall Burn - Iconoclast (Part 1: The Final Resistance) There are 2 metal albums on my best of list this year, and this is one of them. I used to be a huge metal fan, but these days the bands that go for the simple Metal sound without delving into sub-genres and experimentation, well, they just sound boring, because it's all been done so often that it's lost all potential for inventiveness. Everyone once in a [...]

MUSIC REVIEW: Rachel Yamagata - "Elephants... Teeth Sinking Into Heart"

MUSIC REVIEW: Rachel Yamagata - "Elephants... Teeth Sinking Into Heart" I've only noticed Rachel Yamagata when I read from a Blender review of her Happenstance album way back 2004. Blender If she lacks [Fiona] Apple's emotional complexity, her lovely and original debut finds the romance in despair. [Jun/Jul 2004, p.149] It must have been pretty uncomfortable frequently being compared to Fiona Apple. It was undoubtedly due to her playing the piano and having a dark, smokey alto. The Virginia-born singer-songwriter has the kind of mysterious voice I can visualize as the image of [...]
