The album Collider from the Sam Roberts Band ( previously featured here) was released this past Tuesday and it is great! Some of the bros and I are headed up to cottage country for the weekend so I thought it would be appropriate to share some dock rock jams with the rest of the blogosphere world. Collider is a masterfully crafted album from the consistently awesome group members of the Sam Roberts Band, providing us with a clean, rhythmically balanced sound that is best appreciated when listening to the album [...]

Check out this wild duet from Sam Roberts and Land of Talk 's Liz Powell. The song is called Longitude. It's from the upcoming album from Sam Roberts called Collider which drops on May 10th. Guessing that both are Montrealers, why wouldn't Sam want to have her contribute on the album. It's a good rocking song, has that BSS sound to it. Have a listen/download to Longitude .

It was a wonderful and packed night at Mavericks. Land of Talk put on an amazing show in Ottawa. It's been awhile since Liz Powell played a Ottawa show in support of the album Cloak and Cipher ( Ranked #7 in the Best of 2010 Canadian albums ). Very surprised that it was packed and sold out. Alot of young and new people who just heard of Land Of Talk wanted a glance to see the live show. Glad to hear some tracks from [...]

I'm currently finishing another little year-end list for 1146 miles and I came across this song. It's been covered by a lot of the online publications and blogs it seems, but it was a pleasant surprise to me as I listened to it for the first time. Hopefully, you can experience the same thing as I did, listening to it for the first time. That's if you haven't heard it yet. If you have, enjoy it again. Land of Talk is an indie rock group from Montreal. The trio is comprised of singer and guitarist Elizabeth Powell, bassist [...]
Montreal Canada isn't only known for their Expos (that's baseball, people). Arcade Fire, Suns, Stars, Tokyo Police Club are from there, as well as Land of Talk and Besnard Lakes. Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars When we last checked in with Lizzie Powell, she was on the road with Broken Social Scene , playing the role of chanteuse. Now, she's returned with her own group, Land of Talk , offering up their latest work since 2008's Some Are Lakes . The new album, Cloak and Cipher, shows a much more developed band, and one that lives up to the early promise of the band. When [...]
The second album from Land of Talk, "Cloak and Cipher" is a continuation of their first full-length "Some Are Lakes." New songs and the same sound. More like it: ALBUM REVIEW: "Pilot Talk" Curren$y Start talking about Push to Talk CD Review: "Talk To Your Kids About Gangs" by Holy Smokes

If it's not one thing it's another around here at Draw Us Lines . Let me clarify. Lately we've been featuring a lot of those Americana alt-country bands that we love oh so much. I've talked about this before. It seems as though it's a summer of slide guitar and lazy vocals. Maybe it's the heat. Maybe it's the sweat. Who knows? But it seems as though, when we aren't featuring alt-country or alt-folk bands, it's a poppy female fronted band (e.g. Forest City Lovers , School of Seven Bells , [...]

August 24th will be the drop date for the second full-length album by Land Of Talk . Usually its Elizabeth Powell who helms the band. With the second album she got alot of help from Patrick Watson, Stars, Arcade Fire, The Besnard Lakes, Thee Silver Mt. Zion, Wintersleep and Esmerine . I am very surprised with the production on Cloak and Cipher. Its alot of experimentation and a fuller sound. What is great about this album it came during Liz's downtime on recovery from her vocal surgery. [...]

Canadian trio Land of Talk hails from a long line of epic-leaning indie-rock acts that have emerged from Montreal's fervent music scene, including the likes of the Arcade Fire, Stars, Islands, Plants and Animals and Wolf Parade (to name a few). However, Elizabeth Powell's group most closely resonates with Toronto natives Broken Social Scene, as seen on their brand new track "Swift Coin." Combining a swelling atmospheric aesthetic with a bit of driving guitar work in the likes of Dinosaur Jr., and Land of Talk's new song gives plenty of reason to be excited for their second record Cloak [...]

Today's American Thanksgiving post come to us from the Montreal indie-rock trio Land of Talk . The band was formed during front-woman Elizabeth Powell's time at Concordia University, where she met former members Mark Wheaton and Chris McCarron (currently playing with The Dears ) in 2007; the lineup has since evolved to include bassist Joe Yarmush and drummer Andrew Barr. It's Okay can be found on Land of Talk's debut LP "Some Are Lakes", released via Secret City Records (Canada) and Saddle Creek Records (US) on October 7th of last year. The [...]

Lately been very busy with the happenings in the Ottawa music that I haven't done any music picks. This time I will do EP picks since its seems to be a trend with indie musicians releasing them. Tune-Yards - Bird-Droppings This new Digital EP was released on Nov 10th. Two of the songs which were sung live at Pop Montreal (totally amazing set she did at the festival). Best tracks: [...]
Montreal's Land Of Talk , on Saddle Creek, is helmed by Broken Social Scene member Elizabeth Powell. The band has a new EP out, Fun and Laughter , which follows last year's Some Are Lakes and 2006's Applause Cheer Boo Hiss EP. The pretty, Beth Orton-meets-Pedron the Lion-meets-Counting Crows (can I say that?) sounds on "It's Okay," which comes from last year's album, are rendered into a spooky expedition of thoughts with this video, directed by WeWereMonkeys , who have also done videos for Malajube and Emma Lee. The video takes on the [...]
Die wilden Schlachten scheinen geschlagen, doch Elizabeth Powell, die Dinge singt wie: "It started at a summer lake / a sentence and a name / If only for a moment's sake/ We called it and it came" vergisst nicht, was einmal war.
