For the third week in a row, Mumford & Sons ' second LP Babel keeps its stranglehold on the Billboard Top 200. The album sold another 96,000, enough to maintain its perch in the peak position and hold off duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ' The Heist (#2, 78,000), KISS ' Monster (#3, 56,000), Barbra Streisand 's Release Me (#7, 44,000) and Ellie Goulding 's Halcyon [...]

Frank Yang It's really a travesty that Neil Halstead's isn't venerated as a musical trailblazer. This is, after all, a man whose work in Slowdive was groundbreaking for both the shoegazing and ambient electronic genres and who created some of the finest alt.country moments from the UK via Mojave 3 , the say nothing of the increasingly deep catalog of works under his own name, most recently with Palindrome Hunches . And yet for the recognition that he should but mostly does not get, he seemed perfectly content [...]

There's no season more intriguing than fall. The way brittle leaves dance on the pavement, varying colors paint the sky, and brisk, cool air cuts sharp - it's all so cozy and sensory-driven. Outside of the season's enticing facets - not to mention, its series of holidays - we're also ecstatic about the year's upcoming fourth quarter releases. Familiar faces, new talent, and long-awaited returns stockpile the next few months, which makes for exciting earbuds. Now, because there's so much on the way, we decided to handpick 25 of the more crucial releases hitting stores in the coming [...]

“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.” -Willy Wonka Azealia Banks - "19913 Azealia Banks 's latest video takes obvious inspiration from Vogue -era Madonna, copping the Material Girl's all-black getup and sophisticated poses. Many apologies for the absentia! On with the beauty. -Matt

We're not sure how summer flew by so fast, but we're blaming it on our minds being scrambled from too many listens to "Call Me Maybe". The sunny days are getting shorter, school is back in session and it's now time to look ahead to the sounds that are coming our way this fall. One particular date, September 18, will bring a virtual tidal wave of new releases — including new albums from Pink , Nelly Furtado , The Killers , Kanye West [...]

In the 1960s, San Francisco certainly seemed like the place to be. The hippie counterculture movement of that period, specifically in this city, is something that's popular among historians, musicians, politicians, travelers, ramblers, and all in-between. And that’s not a surprise… it was a pretty radical time. Many people today often talk about wishing they could time travel to the '60s to spend a day with Jerry Garcia and Janis Joplin. Maybe I’ve just been hanging around too many hippies lately. Outside Lands marked its fourth year by showing that after all this time, San [...]

What a strange idea: Let's create a world within a metropolis. Whether or not that was the methodology behind Perry Farrell's Lollapalooza in Chicago, IL, remains to be confirmed. However, that's what he's done. Stepping into the gates at Congress and Michigan, one can't help but feel they're about to enter another plane of existence. Yeah, yeah, what a cliché, simplistic statement, but let me ask you this... Over the weekend, did you see: Hall & Oates look-alikes, complete with the leisure suits, dancing in 85-degree heat A "lobster [...]

Lollapalooza celebrated its 20th anniversary over the weekend, turning Chicago's Grant Park into a musical mecca that saw roughly 100,000 people gather each day in extreme heat and, at least on Sunday evening, torrential rain. In keeping with founder Perry Farrell's original vision, the festival lineup was thrillingly diverse, featuring everything from hip-hop to dance to stadium rock. Highlights included a blistering set from Muse, a storm-defying performance by the irrepressible Foo Fighters, and a number of the non-headliners we knew you would love , from Tinie Tempah to Fitz & the Tantrums . [...]
For four years running now, the good people at Another Planet and Superfly have put together a massive outdoor music festival in the part of San Francisco so far west that most people don't even know it exists. The weather is unpredictable, the terrain in this portion of Golden Gate Park is difficult, and with [...]
Outside Lands has added Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Ellie Goulding, tUnE-YarDs and more to the already-bananas lineup, including The Black Keys, Erykah Badu, Deadmau5, Muse, Phish, Arcade Fire, Charles Bradley, MGMT, Girl Talk , Toro Y Moi , Grouplove and more. Held August 12-14 in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, the fourth annual Outside Lands also features 60+ local restaurants and wineries. Three-day tickets are still available on the fest's website, where you'll also find a map of the area, directions to the park and information on local hotels. Girl [...]
At midnight (or thereabouts) last night, C3 dropped the lineup for this year's iteration of Lollapalooza, which will festively adorn the shores of the great Lake Michigan on August 5th-7th this year. This is the 20th anniversary of the festival, which used to be a touring festival but recently has had a home at Grant Park in Chicago. While the top of the lineup is not exactly awe-inspiring this year, there are once again a ton of great smaller and up and coming bands playing this year and it is always a festival worth checking out. Check [...]
