With their successor to 20082s acclaimed Furr , Blitzen Trapper have released an album which must surely rank among the strongest rock efforts of 20102s first half. Destroyer of the Void begins with a six-minute prog/glam-rock title track and runs through another eleven warm and inviting tracks which have had critics the world over falling over themselves to exhaustively identify each of the band's disparate influences. In asking questions of the Portland band's frontman and songwriter Eric Earley, I singularly failed to avoid this temptation but did manage to learn some interesting insights about [...]

Hell yeah! One of my favorite bands, Blitzen Trapper , are returning in 2010 with new album Destroyer of the Void . Lead singer Eric Earley told us at ACL that the new album would feature more piano written songs and this new single "Heaven and Earth" seems to hold true to that statement. I'll be curious to see what else is in store for this much anticipated album. Destroyer of the Void is out June 8th on Sub Pop . Download: Blitzen Trapper - Heaven and Earth [MP3]
Blitzen Trapper consists of five Oregon lumberjacks playing instruments behind frontman Eric Earley, the love child of Bob Dylan and Maroon 5's Adam Levine. While not every member sported a beard or flannel shirt, if you average it out, each person had at least one of those things. It wasn't just the appearance of this husky [...]

Kill Rock Stars is pleased to announce that Thao with The Get Down Stay Down will be releasing their second full-length album, Know Better Learn Faster , on October 13, 2009. "The album is named Know Better Learn Faster because you can't. By the time you realize you should, it's too late. And I enjoy the predicament and the totally devastating, unfunny humor of that." - Thao Nguyen , front woman Thao and the ever-versatile Get Down Stay Down ( Adam Thompson on bass, [...]

Alright, I'll say it off the bat. This album is amazing. I didn't know what to expect when I turned on Blitzen Trapper 's fourth album Furr and, when I did, I was melodically impressed with a folk tuned wonderland. Blitzen Trapper raised a storm last year with the release of their third album, Wild Mountain Nation , and they only improved with the release of Furr . Lead singer Eric Earley provides us with one of the best sounding Dylan voices of our own generation [...]

The bargain bin at your local record store (that is, of course, if such a thing still exists where you live) is likely littered with the CDs of former buzz bands who weren't able to follow up on their opening hype. For everyone that breaks through like an Arcade Fire or a Modest Mouse, there are at least a dozen that couldn't fulfill the expectations of their initial releases. Luckily, for Portland, Oregon-based Blitzen Trapper, they have the one element critical to surviving the harsh climate of the recording industry as we know it today: great songwriting. [...]
