One of the originators of noise pop and all around foul mannered rockers, the music of Jesus and March Chain kicks the shit out of wimpy modern acts that wish they could generate something so corrupted yet awesome (I'm looking at you, Ariel Pink). Their loud, hard guitar rifts and often fitful use of synthesized sound is recognizable and distinct from the shoegazers they clearly influenced like My Bloody Valentine. These guys do their fair share of gazing, but only down dark alleys at perceived pretty girls while running from the cops. There is no doubt that "Head [...]

brother off sap // still consider this one of the best ep's ever released. even if you didnt like alice in chains this a departure from the whole "grunge" thing and more of an acoustic affair. so highly recommended. -->

hey hey! a new jason isbell and the 400 unit song, which is off their forthcoming, 4.12, record entitled here we rest. ill be talking more in depth on the record, which is near or at the top of my faves of the years, more when the record comes out. until enjoy "codeine" which is probably one of my favorite tunes he's ever penned. -->
http://www.ninebullets.net/wp- images/2011/The_Red_Hills.jpg It’s been a busy period for the folks in the ICLASOB camp. First they finally pulled The Sounds of Dying off the shelf and gave it the proper release it deserved, Michael Dean Damron has a brand new solo cd coming out, and then you got I’m A Nightmare being pulled from the dusty and hardest to reach corner of the shelf for a proper release of its own. The Red Hills are Jon Burbank, Dave Lipkind and Flapjack from I [...]

the name, or the man, john p. strohm may not necessarily ring a bell, but the man, in my world, is legendary. he started off playing drums in punk bands in his hometown of bloomington, in - a town i still want to get to one day, then after moving to boston he played guitar in the much beloved blake babies w/ juliana hatfield. the first time i heard their 89 release earwig was in high school, and while i was still into really horrible metal at the time, i would put it up there dinosaur jr's [...]
top of the morning! hope everyone had a lovely weeks end. mine was just lovely, thanks for asking. woke up this morning feeling like a westerberg song for some reason and i am not even too sure what the feels like, but i am just assuming.. so i started diggin through some videos on youtube, which there are a lot, and here are some that are pretty damn awesome.

I spent the better part of five years being convinced that Erykah Badu's music was mostly smooth jazz with the edges dulled down so the general public could listen and pretend they were listening to soul. There are indeed several tracks I've revisited, that I would still describe in such words. Sometimes her music seems to rely too much on a slow, I'm-gonna-sex-you-up-babe bass and unconfrontational jazz chords that amount to little more than a middling groove. This is the way many of the tracks on Baduizm and Mama's Gun add up. But ever [...]

Robyn Bromfiend's debut album as Catscars , which is called Construction is released on March 4th through White Plague Records . Construction is a collection of ambient and experimental, synth-pop with new wave touches and shadowy melodies. Robyn is a member of Patrick Kelleher's Cold Dead Hands and Children Under Hoof which is a pointer of what to expect. there's something about willy vlautin's characters struggles and situations, his own personal defects, and stories that make it onto a richmond fontaine record that i find rather comforting and yet, sadly, identifiable. bad decisions, fucked up situations, personal struggles tween right and wrong, and addiction are constant themes of a willy vlautin song. one would think such a constant running of themes would make for a sameness, but vlautin is so masterful in his storytelling, ala springsteen, dylan, etc, that every situation and song presents a new listening experience that never grows tiresome or seem repetitive. in fact his storytelling [...]

I almost shuffled this one to the bottom of my stack of stuff to listen to, again, because the cover is kid of goofy and I have been disappointed with a lot music of late. Holy shit I am glad I didn't! The Heelers are not your standard Texas music fare in that they are not country and they aren't bar-band-frat-rock. Hell I didn't even know that Brent Best of Slobberbone fame had produced "Devil on your Shoulder" until just a few minutes before I started writing this here little article and I try to keep [...]

I was as surprised as you would be when my "Janelle Monae" Pandora station, which previously had been playing artists like the Roots and Erykah Badu, spat out an awesome Monae track I'd never heard before: "Lettin' Go." Long story short, I find that in 2003 she released an album, The Audition , showcasing her talents to record producers and establishing the groundwork for her later, currently ongoing, Metropolis suite. The Audition , in terms of its subject matter, is split three ways between upbeat party-friendly jams, introspective / autobiographical ballads, and sketches [...]

Michel Aubertin (Left), Phil Grajko (Right), Photo By 151 Sudios Last week we hit you with "Rough Cuddle" the first ever release by the new-school NYC-based reggae duo The Essentials . Today, we fired up to give you "Fearless" the follow up release from this powerful two-some. While Phil leads the vocals on "Rough Cuddle" , "Fearless" is a more balanced collaboration with Michel's rastafari roots guiding the track to glory. These two seamlessly interchange verses with exceptional [...]

Over the past year, Murfreesboro, TN’s The Only Sons have become one of the fixture bands here on ninebullets. It all started when I met them out in Austin during SxSW and since then they’ve played the ninebullets anniversary party and are about to be down for my birthday party, as well as Tropical Heatwave (a big festival 88.5 WMNF does every May). I guess you could say that over the past year, if ninebullets were a bar, The Only Sons would be one of its house bands. Last week saw the release of The Only [...]

I honestly can not believe the I’ve never written about Boris McCutcheon. Seriously. I could swear I remember writing about about his concept album, Cactusman Versus the Blue Demon , but as I search the archives, WordPress is telling me I didn’t. I dunno, maybe it got lost back in the early 9B days when we had troubles staying on a host. Regardless, I am writing about him and his new album, Wheel Of Life , tonight. Boris McCutcheon comes to us from the Sangre de Cristo foothills of New Mexico, making music that is as [...]
